Walmart Claims Gold Mario Amiibo Will Be In Very Short Supply

gold_mario_amiibo_walmart_poster

Everyone wants to get their hands on the limited edition Gold Mario amiibo which is exclusive in the United States to retail chain Walmart. The company has put up a notice at one of its stores stating that the Gold Mario amiibo will be in extremely short supply. The store that’s photographed says they will only get 4-6 extra figures for those who haven’t pre-ordered. So if you haven’t secured one then you will certainly need to lineup quite early to nab one.

Thanks, Jose M

        1. Don’t forget the limited edition Captain Falcon, Ike, Pit, Shulk, Rosalina, Lucario, King Dedede, Meta Knight, Sonic and Mega Man figures…

    1. Like limited editions was a new thing invented by Nintendo.
Though seeing that I could get Watch_Dogs (and many other “AAA” games) limited edition brand new at retailer months after release, maybe Nintendo is the only company taking word “limited” seriously?

      1. They are making limited the right way. Btw, I literally could not find a regular Far Cry 4, there is only limited editions of that game

        1. Limited edition used to mean something, now you can pre-order digital “limited” editions, why?
You pay more to have word “limited” in game title? Seriously EA?

      2. Let’s say that goes for the golden Mario amiibo, what about all the other ones though? The regular SSB amiibo weren’t supposed to be limited, but people are still quite in a struggle to get their hands on the characters of their choice.
If you think that presenting scalpers the perfect opportunity to scam true fans on a silver platter is the right way of “doing limited editions”, then, by all means, Nintendo is doing a great job.
Though I personally am having my doubts whether or not it’s truly right to limit some of the amiibo to certain retailers only, not giving everyone the equal chance to obtain the product. But that’s up to everyone themselves to decide, I suppose.

        1. Nintendo has already explained ssb amiibo situation.
You can call them excuses, and I’m not going to argue about it.
But I’m going with a wild guess you are one of those people who understand why third party support is scarce with Wii U?
Nintendo is not running charity either, they are a business, they were not going to take unnecessary risks.
My guess is they made each of the amiibo enough to cover the costs if at least 1/3 of their stock would sell.
And since those things are not coming out of Willy Wonka’s factory, they can’t just flip a switch and get every amiibo they want to print at will.
Though they seriously overestimated how popular Pikachu would be, that yellow rat is about the only amiibo that has been constantly in stock and readily available.
I would think that success they have been having with amiibos so far, will enable them to take bigger risks with stock and availability.

          1. Yea, going into Nintendo’s explanations won’t make much sense at this point, arguing about it won’t prove whether it’s true or not, after all.
And about the business part, I do agree with you that it’s understandable for them not to want to take risks and overstock. But after all those months of underestimation of demand, you would think they’d try to change something, right? It’s true that they can’t just produce a billion amiibo by snapping their fingers or anything, but the low stock has been a problem literally for months now, but nothing has changed. Of course I’m not familiar enough with how all that production stuff works, but I would have expected waves following the first one to be stocked more reasonably.
Either way, let’s hope you’re right and Nintendo actually learns from this, so they can handle situations like this better in the future.

            1. I would think they are looking at their options. Japan has already been confirmed to get some additional stock of certain amiibos. Fire Emblem amiibos has been rumored (confirmed?) to get another print for STEAM.
I wish amiibos were as available as disney infinity, so I could pick them up randomly when buying games and things.

          2. While I believe Nintendo, and I believe what you said above, you have to wonder if Nintendo isn’t intentionally creating an Amiibo shortage. It’s business 101 to create a false sense of demand by lowering supply.. If they fully stocked every Amiibo on the shelves, and everybody could easily pick up any Amiibo they wanted by just simply picking them off the shelf, then you would not have the hype and Amiibo craze that we see everyday.. It’s a very smart business move to keep demand high by keeping the stock low, and in my opinion thats what I think Nintendo is doing..

            1. If there was an artificially created shortage, Nintendo must have left early from the classroom and missed the next step in fabricating supply and demand.
My guess is SSB lineup was their trial run, to get the feel of the market, alpha test.
SMB lineup is most likely them testing that SSB lineup was not an happy accident, beta test.
After that we’ll either see a lot more of lineups and supply will most likely be better.
amiibos aren’t that expensive to manufacture, my guess would be 1/3 of the stock sold would start seeing profits.

  1. Not even going to attempt to get it. Our Walmarts are all 24 hours, and no amiibo is worth waiting around all night in a gross Walmart for them to maybe stock…

  2. So much for the theory that a basic spraypainted design would allow Nintendo to actually produce enough of these to meet demand. And so much for pre-orders being a “small fraction” of available stock. Right…

  3. Nintendo, I know you’re afraid of overproducing because of the Wii U launch disaster. But you have to understand the basic rule of economics. If there is a demand, there will have to be a supply.

  4. These amiibo sell like burning, fiery, blazing hotcakes, yet they make very little? Economics!
I wonder for how much these will go for on ebay.

  5. holy shit nintendo fire your american president already. i don’t think reggie’s body is ready anymore.

  6. They should’ve stopped production on the normal Mario Amiibo to make more of these gold ones. LOL.
All jokes aside, no surprise there. But 4-6 is still more stock than the number of NN3DSXL’s and other Amiibo’s stores have been getting.

  7. My cousin works in the electronic department at Walmart. She’s already said she could get me two of them. I told her to just get me one because of how limited they will be.. Guess I could be a scalper, but I hate scalpers…

      1. Technically you could be a scalper by just getting one, then selling it for a higher price on ebay.. Thats scalping. You dont need to buy five of anything..

        1. Exactly! Scalping is when a person buys a limited item and sells it for a high amount of money. Buying 4 doesn’t make one a scalper. I bought 4 bTW

  8. That’s it! I’m done with this amiibo crap! It’s just not worth it. Nintendo can shove all of the amiibos straight up their asses. They have been unbelievably incompetent with the amiibos. What’s their problem? Why do they never make enough? WHY?
