Nintendo And DeNA’s Membership Service Will Replace Club Nintendo

Well, we’ve already heard that DeNA and Nintendo have partnered up to bring Nintendo IP to smart devices such as the iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Now it has been confirmed that a special membership service will be put in place to replace the existing Club Nintendo. This new membership program will be in place for a number of platforms including Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, PC, and smart devices and also the new hardware Nintendo is developing, the NX. The new scheme will allow those who purchase Nintendo content on a variety of devices special discounts. Details are rather scarce, but the new scheme will go live at the end of the year.

Thanks to those who sent this in.

        1. I’ll explain:

          1) Nintendo and DeNa are partnering to create games from Nintendo’s large list of IPs for smartphone devices.
          2) Nintendo will NOT be porting their games to smartphones. This is simply a contractual agreement.
          3) DeNa will also be working on the new membership program that replaces Club Nintendo in Fall 2015, which will be accessible on PC, mobile devices, and all Nintendo devices (Wii U, 3DS, and NX).
          4) Codename NX is an all-new type of dedicated gaming platform Nintendo is working on likely which they’ll announce at a later date more thoroughly in 2016. This system will join the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS; Iwata made it clear with the graph that it is NOT meant to act as a device that replaces either their home console or portable system. It is an entirely new ‘type’ of gaming device.

In other words, Nintendo just hosted an E3 of their own with their investors. 😜

          1. Mind blown im still confused it has been a wtf just happen day and out of nowhere. Best part is that they showed it to every one.
hopefully this deosnt count as a N-Direct

    1. No, but rather than looking at it like a gaming platform, they see it as a “platform to reach new users”

  1. So it’s basically like the Special Discount program (forgot the name) that all Deluxe Wii U owners got to have. As long as all my purchases don’t have to be digital I’m fine with this, buying digital games are still too risky until Nintendo gets their account systems together.

  6. I don’t like what I’m hearing about this replacing Club Nintendo. So I only hope it all turns out better than I fear.

It’d be funny if the NX turns out to be Nintendo’s own smartphone! If that’s the case by some chance, I’ll finally have a reason to get a smartphone since it will hopefully be the opposite of other companies’ smartphones & only come out with a new one once every 5 years. That’s the only thing I can think of of why this would not be replacing a home console or a handheld system. Just for smartphone games. It’d be a nice way to get into mobile gaming without actually giving their properties to smartphone companies like Apple, Samsung, etc.
