Game Trailers List Their Top Ten Nintendo Systems

It’s that time again as Game Trailers has produced another of their top ten lists. This time they have focussed on their favourite Nintendo platforms of all-time, which as anyone would attest is a hard job. I mean we’ve had some classics on each and every system. Anyway, here’s what they decided on.

10. Wii U
9. Game Boy Advance
8. Nintendo 3DS
7. Wii
6. Nintendo DS
5. Gamecube
4. Game Boy
3. NES
2. Nintendo 64
1. Super Nintendo

  1. About as subjective as it gets. Except that the Wii is objectively better than the GameCube because the Wii can do everything the Game über can and then some.

          1. No other console out there is backwards compatible, and your upset that it’s not double backwards compatible? Sheesh!

      1. Super Nintendo is the shit. Good controller, excellent games. Set the pace and standard for a lot of Nintendo games and systems. Super Mario World is my favorite 2D Mario game and my 2nd favorite of all time.

    1. Why would you type a comment claiming your first when you really don’t know if your first? Now you’ve just embarrassed yourself.

  2. Considering there are only 12 Nintendo platforms, it’s not surprising which 2 didn’t make the list but I guess that’s not the point.. the order is.. but Wii over Wii U? The Wii U has much better games.. oh well whatever.

    1. The Wii is definitely superior to the Wii U. The idea of motion control was fresh in the industry and although it wasn’t a powerful machine it had great games.

  3. Personally, the GCN still remains my favorite, based on the sheer amount of great games it had. Still the best Nintendo Library of games in my opinion.

      1. I’m sure you’re a model right? Why can’t people get over pointing out people’s looks? Oh right because it’s a lazy way to feel better about yourself.

  4. I’m just here to say the SNES is overrated. It was great for it’s time, but I definitely prefer modern games to it’s classics. I’m not old enough to be taken in my it’s nostalgia.

    1. Me neither. I respect the NES and SNES for what they did, but I don’t have a lot of love for those games.

    2. Bull crap. The SNES was amazing. You know what made the SNES stand out? Most of the games on it were good. The sane can’t be said for any other system in history.

      1. That’s the thing though. You had to grow up with these consoles to appreciate them. I love those games and can continuously go back to them and they always deliver, but those that didn’t grow up with them think its all just nostalgia. They’re held at high regard because they’re pretty much masterpieces, not nostalgia. The majority of younger generation will never understand that though.

      2. Some of the greatest games I’ve played we’re on SNES. I have the nostalgia for it, but I also have a huge respect for it. But I try not to pick sides, more so over things like this.

      3. I don’t think the majority of them are good. That’s, like, your opinion, man. I prefer modern games and find them far superior to SNES games. When I take this comparison into the equation, there’s no question.

SNES games are dated and lackluster. What was once golden will crumble in time.

        1. Okay now you’re pushing it. Some of the best games ever made are on that system. Also Super Mario RPG says hi. I’m not being nostalgic I’m just giving credit where credit is due.

  5. Yeah, the Wii U is so awful. I hate seeing Mario, Donkey Kong and Pikmin in HD. The whole reason why I bought a Wii U was to see and play as my favorite Nintendo characters in HD. The Wii U is by far my favorite Nintendo console without a doubt. It’s not the Wii U’s fault Nintendo has no clue in their advertising department.

  6. 10. Game Boy Advance
    9. Nintendo DS
    8. Wii
    7. Nintendo 3DS
    6. Wii U
    5. Gamecube
    4. Game Boy
    3. NES
    2. Nintendo 64
    1. Super Nintendo

  7. To put GameCube above Wii or Wii above Wii U, etc. is very strange considering backwards compatibility. But hey, this is clearly a list of what they liked the best and they’re clearly just trying to say the like Wii U the least. Hooray for opinions. Unless you idolize these guys the list is pointless though… it doesn’t seem very objective at all.

    1. I think they mean they like the games that came out with the system. I know you’re butthurt, but the list isn’t supposed to be objective. Why can’t people understand the concept of opinions?

      1. Wow, i’m not butthurt at all man lol. I was just giving my opinion (which is what you do in a comments section btw), and also stating that the list isn’t as objective as the video’s title might suggest. Even what you said, “the games that came out with the system” is actually a really good way to rank systems. The only thing is- a system which plays all of those games and new ones should kind of make it better than it’s predecessor. Like Wii over GC, although I personally preferred the GC era all the way.

Opinions are great if you give a fuck about the people giving them. Which brings me to my last point… Why are you in such a rush to defend them? I wasn’t even bashing them or the list. I was just stating that it only holds weight if you’re a fan of it’s creators. Yet you choke on them so hard you jumped on me for simply saying that it’s their opinion? Hm.

  8. Counting backwards compatibility for my top 3, I would say the best system is the Wii considering it can play Gamecube and Wii games. My second favorite console would be the 3ds since it has a huge library with both ds and 3ds games. I would give Wii u third place. The Wii u has some great games, but still could use a much bigger library which will probably happen with some time.

  9. Seriously mynintendonews… Stop spoiling all of gametrailers countdowns for me. Its fine if you want to repost the video but why post the list below? Don’t you trust your readers to watch the video? Are our attention spans that short? Please consider not writing the list next time so we can actually get some enjoyment out of watching the video.

  10. My only argument would be the 3ds placement. I personally believe the 3ds to be Nintendo’s best handheld they ever made. Oh well, you know what they say about opinions.

  11. So much nostalgia even that ghost from Link’s Awakening would be shaking its head at them. I’m not saying I disagree with the list or anything (though I do) but not even putting the GBC on the list is an insult; I can count more must-have games for the GBC than I can GCN or wii.

what’s more, they don’t give a good reason for not allowing the reverse-compatible models to supersede the older generation. Buying a wii when you have a wii U, for instance, is borderline pointless. Even moreso for wii and GCN since component cables for GCN cost more than the console itself these days.

      1. Oop, yeah, I’d totally forgotten a bunch of them were technically deluxe versions of games that had already been released on the GB, or ones supported by both systems, i.e. wario Land 2. I retract that.

        1. I was being picky, sorry about that. I had no intention to disregard your comment.

Actually, the GBC was a great system. But when one roughly analizes the Wii library… Oh, man, it is so diverse and so rich.

    1. Actually it makes a lot of sense to compile a list and opting out the BC. Its not a list to show you which one to buy, but a list to show you what that console brought. SNES games on SNES, Wii on Wii, DS on DS, and so on. Wii games might be emulated on the Wii U but the they were made with the Wii’s capabilities in mind, in the end a Wii game (emulated or not) is still a Wii Game.

I do see what everyone is getting mad, but the list is ultimately GT’s opinion.

  12. I have an easier way to compile my top ten hardware list. And that’s just to count the software titles for each system I own. The more titles I own for a machine, the more fun I would have had with that system. See if you can tell where the WiiU ranks.

  13. I feel like many discredit something just because it’s “nostalgia”. Seriously, some classics are still hailed to this day for what they introduced or how they set a new standard in the industry (any). Our modern tech is objectively superior towards the older gen models however it’s the CONTENT we judge on and its history.

I feel like this generation just lacks two things; respect and appreciation. This conclusion came from my own experience but the 90’s, 80’s however far back most definitely had their few but it wasn’t global till the internet came about.

  14. I agree with some of it, but the Wii was my least favorite console from Nintendo. And the 3DS definitely deserves to be further on the least. But that’s just me.
