Here’s Xenoblade Chronicles X E3 2013 Trailer Compared To Latest Footage

Wondering how Xenoblade Chronicles X looked when it was first announced compared to the most recent footage which was showcased on Friday? Well, the answer is it looks slightly different. You could say that the initial reveal looks slightly better visually to the most recent footage, but you could say the same about a number of games. What do you think to the differences?

Thanks, Lord Zedd

  1. Different lighting effects, different floor texture, different mech. Other than that, looks fairly similar. Both are pretty good IMO, though I prefer the Cross on the left more than the brown haired one on teh right.

    1. Yeah. Like you said they both pretty much look the same, but the character on the left with his black hair and more rugged appearance looks better. The brown haired guy just looks as my sister would says, derpy. There are less mechs in the newer version as well. I can’t help but wonder why.

    1. Honestly, I really have to agree with you. In the new one there are less Dolls, the character looks less refined and derpy, the detail in the Dolls is lessened, and even the environment is reduced. The character in the old one looks far better, moves better too, even the Doll clearly has what appears to be a turbine in it’s chest. The crane structure at the end is also missing in the new video. Honestly the new one looks blurred and smudged by comparison. I can’t help but wonder why they deviated so by so much.

    2. Sadly yes that’s why I sent it here to see what everyone else thought but it’s blatant that the old version looks better

      1. so you sent a low res video to compare please gtfo the game looks better then the reveal only biased fanboys would say otherwise

          1. No, you don’t have to be a fanboy to defend this. I am no fanboy, yet the older video doesn’t look that much better to me. Slightly better lighting, and a better character model. Which the different character model means absolutely nothing because you will be able to customize your own character anyways!

    3. No, it doesn’t look waaaaaaayy better. It looks just a little better. The lighting is the most notable difference to me.

        1. The nintendo magistrate

I myself personally am happy we are getting this game at all. And i think gamers should to Japan could of at anytime said Xenoblade Chronicles X Is a japan exclusive but they didn’t they? So Stop complaining and just be glad we are getting the game at all!

          1. Thats an illogical way of thinking on your part magistrate. Why would it ever be a Japan exclusive? The first game sold 100k copies in Japan and sold 500k copies here. Nintendo would be plain stupid to even consider it a Japan exclusive… When you make an exclusive, you do so in a part of the world where the exclusive will sell the most copies.. In this case that place is the U.S..

            1. The nintendo magistrate

i guess your right there Deepsouth i was just saying Nintendo could of done that it was just all the people complaining on the graphics topic was getting repeated alot so i decided to add my 10 cents

    1. That’s what I’m worried about. And I’m no graphics whore but when you show something great then downgrade that’s false advertisement. And people here talked shit about watch dogs so if they give this the pass then they’re just hypocritical fanboys. Not saying I won’t still get the game but it is disappointing. I’m hoping like others said the first one is cgi and the other is in game.

      1. I'm a Boss Ass Bitch

That’s what I’m saying. People oh this site are some of most hypothetical fuckers ever. When the game was first announced. Some use xenoblade X as defense for Wii u power and how good the graphics are in that. Watch how these fuckers turn around and say, ” Graphics is not first priority. Gameplay always comes before graphics.” Or just some bullshit about not needing graphics at all. There’s a line between decent grapics and shitty graphics. Xenoblade has decent graphics. Is it the best? No. Its good enough to make the game enjoyable and great. I’m with you when you said you’ll buy it anyways. The game looks fun as shit but if the graphics decrease anymore than fuck it.

        1. Well said! Here’s hoping that there’s nothing more in this game to frown upon and that other aspects turn out as we expect them too if not better.

        2. Yea man I can’t stand people who just defend anything and change their minds to support whatever nintendo or their fellow companies decide. Like you said, people bragged about this game, and said it was better looking than FF 15. Now they flip flop. But when watch dogs did it, they pointed and laughed. Honestly I feel like the community here has changed quite a bit the last few months. Anyone know what happened to Ridley King or whatever his name was? He changed it a few times, but he was a cool guy haven’t seen him or some other cool people I used to talk to in a while.

          1. You cannot compare this to Watch Dogs. The reason people got mad at Watch Dogs is because Ubisoft showed off amazing E3 footage, and then kept the real gameplay under wraps until the game released. People played the game and then realised the game looks nothing like the E3 video. The people were decieved. That was a shitty move by Ubisoft.

This case is completely different. Yes, they showed an E3 video that looks slightly better, but they have also showed us countless streams and directs too. We know exactly what the game will look like. There is no decieveing here. In fact, I believe they are showing us TOO MUCH of the game. The complete opposite case of Watch Dogs..

So you see, the community hasn’t changed. You are just mistaken.

          2. I'm a Boss Ass Bitch

Yeah that ridley guy is still around. I remember him liking one of my comments. It ridley god of destruction or something

        3. Did you guys watch the streams? THATS how the game will look. I didn’t hear any of you bitching and moaning then. The game looks fine. The E3 demo looked a little better, big fucking deal.

          1. I'm a Boss Ass Bitch

Fucking mad because what we are saying is fucking true. Go suck a salty dick because your butthurt is fucking strong.

            1. I’m not mad. What you said was wrong, I proved it, and now your crying. Go cry somewhere else crybaby…

Just so you know, 95% of the shit you spew out of those pussy lips you call a mouth is inaccurate.

              1. I'm a Boss Ass Bitch

Lol at pussy lips. And 95% wrong? please! Don’t get me wrong, xenoblade looks good, but the way you motherfucker hyped and bragged about how good the graphics are is just hysterical. Maybe you wasn’t one of those fuckers and I’m not hating on this game ether. Its the hypocrites that this ratchet fan base has. Once proven wrong Nintendo fans jump back to gameplay as they’re defense.

      2. Unless you are willing to track down the comments of everyone and demonstrably show they’re engaging in hypocrisy by acting differently there and here, your argument holds no water, the people on this site are not a hive mind, what some say does not become the de-facto mindset for all of us.

  2. 2013 looks better but who needs graphics if we got content, a great example is The order 1886, awesome graphics but it is an horrible and short game -_-

  3. The one on the right doesn’t look good because they had to account for the custom avatar rather than a preset protagonist. Unfortunately that’s the trade you make for having avatars. Doesn’t help that the customization is pretty crap and they chose to brighten the lighting.

Between this, a most likely lackluster plot, rap music, and most of the map being a green field it’s like they want me on the fence about this game.

    1. So you’re complaining about a plot we know little about, music that is excellent, and saying it’s mostly a green field when there are numerous other areas to see.

      Someone’s not paying attention apparently.

      1. When you make the main character an avatar, the story takes a massive hit. There are five areas. FIVE. Do you really think that’s anywhere near enough after what its predecessor accomplished?

So far it looks like the only hope this little shitter has is combat, and I really doubt it’ll be able to carry if people are cringing every time those horrible vocals cut in. IMO the other songs are good enough/great. Just sucks they did it to such an essential song.

      2. There are five areas. Five.
There are rap lyrics in the most essential song of the game.
The plot will be gimped from having an avatar.

Enjoy your “Xenoblade sequel”. They really improved on everything.

        1. There is no confirmation that there is only five area’s. The original Xenoblade was massive. (spoiler warning) When I got to Mechonis in the original game it blew my mind. It suprised me. I wasn’t ready for it. I am sure this game has suprises like that as well. It may even have another planet to visit, or underground areas.. Who knows.

Don’t think for one second you know everything about this game. I assure you, you know very little. Especially when it comes to locations and map sizes. Only the developers know how many locations there are. I can almost guarantee you there are more than five areas.

  4. If this game is anywhere near as good as xenoblade chronicles I got no issues at all. Heck give me the same graphics as chronicles and I won’t care as long as its worth it in terms of story and gameplay. You can literally get lost in the world of chronicles hopefully this one stands up to the original. Either way its a day one purchase for me

  5. They should hire the Final Fantasy character creator to AT LEAST design the character faces…

The characters in this game look special needs. Final Fantasy has some beautiful looking characters, though.

  6. The texture have been reduced harldy any surprise as the one before was a tech demo sort of and people need to understand the 2013 one has different light settings taking place a closer look so that is why 2013 one has shines and stuf when the 2015 one doesn’t…I think almost identical, but 2013 is better ofcourse for being a trch demo.

  7. 2013 >>>>>>> 2015

I’ll get XCX when I find it in the bargain bin.

    In other words, NEVER.

Do not care about this trash.

Thanks, Nintendo and Monolith Soft, you destroyed all my hype with a horrible OST, horrible HUD and poor game mechanics.

Heck, I hope the same does not happen to DeusEx MD.

        1. Um, the battle system looks excellent, much improved from the original.

If that’s the best you’ve got, then you’re just a whiner.

          1. You watched a 30-min long video in 3 min. Good skills.

Tag me as you want. You call me whiner, and I call you a blind fanboy.

            1. No, because I’ve seen that video before. I’ve kept up with all of the presentation videos. It’s why I’m hyped for the game.

                1. I respect reasonable opinions.

However, when someone like you says “you’ve killed my hype” when everything so far has improved on the original, that gives the impression of an entitled whiner.

                  1. First and foremost, the hype was mine, not yours. Mind your own business, dude!

Secondly, if you’re saying that “when everything so far has improved on the original”, cool for you. That’s your perception and you are allowed to express it. But never face it as a fact; it is merely your perception of the game.

You previously said in this news that you’re in the minority who thinks the game looks better now. Dude, be coherent.

                    1. It’s not that I personally care, but what’s the point of posting a public comment if you don’t want discussion?

        2. This is the same battle system as Xenoblade with a few tweaks if this bores then go play the wannabe Hack N Slash that is FFXV plus graphic should never EVER be a reason to miss a game the original Xenoblade had bad Graphics but it’s probably one the Best RPG of the Decadeb leagues above of all the recent FF game who care how the game looks
That kind of Attitude is why we keep having crap like AssCreed Unity, The Order and more
Gameplay over graphic should be a dogma to both Gamers and Game developers it doesn’t matter in the end since the next generation and pc will always have graphics that’s why realistics graphics tend to not pass the taste of time i mean look at all the MGS games on PS2 and compare them to the most recent ones
Bottom line it that better graphics DO NOT MAKE A BETTER GAME
I’m tired of the industry pandering to the shallow demographic that buy a games based on their look and the worst part is that it works people buy games more on the graphics rather than the game as a whole i just hope this keep happening

          1. I have the same concerns you do. But you do not need to assume that I’m a fan of a franchise (FF) that is completely has been dead and buried more for over a decade already. Also, what bothers me is not the half-assed graphics, but the downgrade itself, whatever it is.

  8. The game has not even released yet and you dub it as trash. The 2013 video does look better but I’m sure they had to make compromises in order to include all the content they squeezed into the game and to make the experience as fluid as possible. If you expect people to respect your opinions then write them in a respectable manner. Your “opinion” is clearly written as if it were fact and comes off as an obnoxious teenager.

  9. The one on the left looks better, probably because it wasn’t running on just the game engine. It’s a beautiful regardless.

  10. 1. Like someone said above me the 2013 showcase of the game was most likely a tech demo
    2. It is cool that they compared the actual in game footage now in 2015 to what was possibly a tech demo or a higher version of the game in 2013
    3. Why do people say there are less mechs only because there weren’t as many mech in the 2013 video doesn’t mean there are less mech
    4. Just a few months ago there was another comparison of the 2014 build to the 2015 build and the 2015 build looked better
    5. Stop whining about the character models they are customized so you can make them however you like
    6. For the people talking about watch dogs and trying to make a comparison lol that was a huge downgrade but as we all should know that was most likely running on a high end of
    7. Someone got watchdogs to look like it did at e3 because the computer code to make the game look like it did at e3 was still there
    8. Look it up on you tube
    9. Also like a few other people pointed it they still look similar
    10. Can someone make a comparison video of the world that was shown in 2013 or 2014 to the world that was shown in the 2015 directs I think that would be a much better comparison
    11. I can’t wait for this game and I think that is all I had to say

  11. I had to go back and check which side was from 2013. Usually they put the new stuff on the right I thought to myself, while watching the video. (“well I guess they went left”). Nope. Not having a worlwide simultaneous release date is worse but I feel lied to like when Gearbox pulled the ole bait n switch with Aliens.

  12. The people who are complaining obviously don’t know how difficult it would be to create a game as big as Xenoblade with the 2013 graphics and the difficulty of fitting all of that onto a 25 GB disc.

  13. I don’t get it? The environments look better compared to previous builds, but a smaller condensed area looks worse now? And no, the 2013 build was not CG. If it were, it would look completely different and have almost complete anti-aliasing. It isn’t a big difference, but I am disappointed that there is a noticeable downgrade.

  14. @Griffion Don’t forget the 2013 video was meant to be a teaser during the development process. Obviously they had to relocate resources in order to improve specific crucial areas while downgrading on a few as well. Clearly compromises to the visuals were necessary due to the game’s overall size in both scope and scale. I thought this was common sense regarding open world games.

The developers never promised it would look like it did in 2013. It’s just a sneak peak of what we could be getting and now we know what we are getting and even so, it looks fantastic in my opinion but the ground texture is distracting but hey, there is so much to look forward to I can care less over something I would not take the time scoping out.

    1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

      >>>I jut want the game to be packed with non repetitive content to balance this “downgrade”>>>

    2. @ Gabriel Antonio Rivas Of course it was just a teaser, but that was definitely in-game back in 2013 as well. Of course a graphical downgrade comes at the cost of a vast world with a large draw distance. But the area in the comparison is a small, indoor and condensed scene. The landscapes look better compared to 2013, but this small are looks worse? There isn’t need to render a large amount when inside.

    1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

      >>>Do they really have to have all those damn numbers and text everywhere while shooting creatures? It’s so annoying>>>

  15. *shrugs* Looks within acceptable boundaries to ShadyKnights. I don’t expect golden showers, rainbows, and sparkles when I see game reveal trailers. 27 going on 28 years of living taught me to expect games be, at absolute best, only “close” to what their reveal trailers look like cause odds are 99 to 1 something will be changed. I mean the big Keyblade Graveyard scene wasn’t nearly as good or impactful in-game as it was in the FMV. I don’t get that level of disappointment from Xenoblade X reveal trailer versus the more recent trailer.

This is not equivalent to Watch_Dogs to me as the trailer for WD was about how pretty game looks and how the hacking is totally apart of the game. It was kinda clear from the later trailers how that was neither was going to be the case. XCX’s trailer is about RPG with mechs and big ass monsters and world, and the recent trailer doesn’t seem to dispute that. So long as they don’t F up the mechanics I don’t care how much “better” the reveal trailer looks compared to the one on the right. I have better things to masturbate to and worry about than graphics on a game that looks respectably good not looking a bit better. And anyone who disagrees with that logic just has different values and concerns about the game than me which is cool yo.

    1. Yea but I agree with you. Watch Dogs showed an amazing E3 video, and then hid the game until release. They tricked people into thinking that the E3 footage is what the game will look like. In Xenoblade we know exactly what we are getting. They are not hiding anything and have showed us countless streams and directs. The complete opposite situation as Watch Dogs really.

    1. The vulgarity in the term is merely to reflect the excess and lust with which today’s gamers look at graphical fidelity and amount of things happening at once. The frequency and intensity of which these aspects of games are brought up are liken to that of desirability in sexual partners it seems to me, so I felt the phrase was apropos. My sincere apologies if it was too coarse for your tastes as I meant no offense, only a little risque humor.

  16. Seriously 2013 the game was probably half as big. You have to make sacrifices when making the game larger.

Plus you can take your Emo Boyband FFXV characters. I’ll be busy battling giant monsters online with transforming mecha wielding a frickin lightsaber!

    1. Nothing really, the graphical different are minor. I’d rather have a large open world game that runs smoothly than have a tidge better visuals and have a smaller game with framrate drops and poor online

  17. Pingback: Xenoblade Chronicles X è cambiato dall’E3 2013? Downgrade? | VG247.it

    1. The people saying the graphics are terrible are Final Fantasy fans who have realised that Monolith Soft have produced a better game. FF fans can keep their prettier graphics and their Emo boyband.

I’ll have my fully customisable lead character, online missions, 350sq miles of seamless playable areas, oh and the GIANT FUCKING TRANSFORMABLE, CUSTOMISABLE MECHS YOU CAN PILOT, THAT YOU CAN ARM TO THE TEETH, INCLUDING GIANT LASER SWORDS!

  18. Everyone should think about video exporting and uploads to youtube and realize that neither is an accurate depiction of what the game will look on your TV at home.

  19. If any of you thought that the first trailer was being shown using Wii U hardware then you’re completely in the dark when it comes to video game development.

    1. It was probably made with the regular capacities of the Wii U in mind, but the source was probably a PC, which would explain why it looks slightly better.

  20. Pingback: Video confronto tra la presentazione dell'E3 2013 e quella del Nintendo Direct di Xenoblade Chronicles X - copaXgames

  21. 1. Holy shit after watching the recent doll direct posted in the comments god damn there will be a ridiculous amount of things to do in this game and I may never or rarely go online maybe not until I at least reach level 30 to 50 and have what I think are good enough weapons
    2. I’m going to be grinding like crazy

  22. there’s nothing “slightly” about that.. the differences are very noticeable

however i’m guessing that the e3 2013 footage wasn’t gameplay footage at all but prerendered

  23. Pingback: Xenoblade Chronicles X: downgrade in vista? – Games969.com

  24. @Griffion You stated how beautiful the environments right? As I’ve stated, they relocated their resources in order to improve specific areas and most likely the amount of attention is being given to the massive landscapes while the City will look good but not graphically impressive. This is mainly my assumption but I don’t think see it as an unrealistic outcome. We’ve game-play videos so you understand where I am coming from, right?

  25. I think that actually this scene happens more the one time throughout the game. For instance, every time you go get your doll in NLA. Because it is a in-game scene, the elements within the scene will be different each time (number of mechs, tracks etc.) A Doll could easily be out in a mission which explains the missing ones in the new trailer. People like to notice the missing things but forgot to notice the added things. In the new direct at 0:18 there is a Doll moving in the new direct footage that wasn’t doing so in the 2013 footage. If it was suppose to be a downgrade to make the game run better it would not make sense to add a moving mech. At the same scene to the right hand side, in the new direct there is a Doll walking toward the back of the room, and on the 2013 the mech is walking forward. How this change would make the game run easier (theory of a downgrade to make game run smooth)?. And more, at 0:24 on the new footage the character closes and opens his right hand while in the 2013 he does nothing. To me this is a indication of my first statement, this scene happens a lot in the game and capture what is happening in the room each time, so cut-scene in-game.

The character model is in the same level. The equipments are less detailed simply because the armour in the new trailer is a simpler one, but there is a high chance the armour of 2013 still in the game and with the same graphs. Furthermore the armour of the Character Doug has much more details than the armour of Cross on 2013 so it is clear the game can handle this level of details.

NLA is is progressive construction so this could explain the lack of some structures (but this I found less likely).
