Being sold out in most major UK retailers, some have even boosted their price to make a bit extra from their success. In an interview, James Honeywell, the head of consumer marketing at Nintendo UK even said: “Right from the outset we hoped that Amiibo would be strong, but even our expectations have been smashed.” Nintendo are hoping to win over a younger audience with the Amiibo, but looks like they’re winning the adult audience too, because no one can deny their appeal! From what I’ve seen, Nintendo UK and Europe haven’t done that, you could get Shulk by pre-ordering from the official store, ShopTo, Game among others before they ran out of stock. Even Jigglypuff, Greninja, Ness and more aren’t retail exclusive here. UK person here.
But I know that this is a Nintendo America issue, I agree that retail exclusive Amiibo is a retarded idea, especially for those that don’t have any of those stores near them. NOA really need to step up their game. While Europe’s Amiibo situation is bad, I don’t think it’s as bad as America’s.
I agree (also UK here) it hasn’t been as bad, although now they are selling out so fast, I got Greninja and Jigglypuff from GAME for £15 each because I wasn’t quick enough when the pre order was open at UK store.
It seems as though some amiibo like Ike are rare in US? I managed to get one easily off Nintendo store after weeks of deciding whether to get it or not.
Also the Yoshi and Splatoon are pretty much sold out on UK store, but at GAME they aren’t which is good because I want both games with the 3 amiibo pack.
You had the same problem with Jigglypuff and Greninja as well? I just ordered both from ShopTo when I found out they were both canceled on me, ordered Jigglypuff on the 18th and Greninja on the 20th, I also paid for both of them on the spot so canceling chances of those 2 would be unlikely since I’ve paid up. Now I’ve learned to be at the page 15 minutes before pre-orders start when they do announce it beforehand, luckily I’ve had no problem with Ganondorf and the other 3. Just waiting on the July Amiibo now.

Just like the Wii. Understocking to start off with, then they saw how popular the Wii was and made a lot more, then the Wii becomes Nintendo’s highest selling Home Console, ever.
Keep in mind the Wii is/was a lot more complicated to make than a simple NFC-enabled figure.

Some rare ones can indeed still be found on shelves. Two weeks ago 4 Villagers were bought at a Walmart here in Houston and just a week ago someone found a WFT at TRU also here in Houston.
And those 4 Villagers here were heard pretty much around the globe. :L That was most likely just a SINGLE store that had them hidden somewhere.

If they’re out there, they’re definitely not on shelves, and even if they’re in the back; those are most likely extremely minimal.

No you really can find some of them sitting there in some places in Europe and Japan. But in the US even common ones run out quickly. Also they have exclusives, which makes everything worst. I really hope they make more of all of them.

I go after the ones I want. So far that has been Samus and the Splatoon amiibo. Pretty easy for me actually. Glad I wasn’t after Little Mac or Marth….

Actually Australia isn’t much better than US. Only one retailer bothers restocking characters other than Pikachu, and the smash versions of Luigi, Bowser, Peach and several other US commons are unicorn here. Also amazon au doesn’t even stock and video game related content

This is all PR anyways. Nintendo has to respond to the anger over the Amiibo shortage. However the shortage is self inflicted. Nintendo knows exactly what it’s doing. If you guys actually think Nintendo is going to restock all the hard to get Amiibo, you can think again. Aint gonna happen.
I find it hard to actually see amiibo in UK shops, I’ve been in GAME and there’s very few. Went into HMV and found literally about 5 Peach (Smash Bros) and 1 other. Haven’t been into Toys R Us yet but I would think there should be more. But yeah, it seems easier to get them online (compared to US, but not much)
They just need to figure out good ways to interact with games other than weak powerups, skins and mini-games
I think they should make a game dedicated to amiibos, like Disney Infinity or Skylanders where you go on a 3D adventure or build your own Nintendo themed world.
It would be the sh!t, like loads better than Minecraft. Plus, it would make amiibos even more popular. I have a feeling they will do this actually. Perhaps they could announce it at this years E3 coming out this Holiday season and blow everyone’s minds.
When Amiibos were first introduced a lot of people were worried that they were gonna flop, but I’m glad that that didn’t turn out to be the case. Nintendo really scored on this. Great for them.

Nintendo already said this with Wave 1. I’m so over it, with their lame excuses. For those who want amiibo, I only hope for their sake Nintendo actually does something about it this time. So we aren’t hearing the same stupid excuses for the next wave.

I can’t believe Nintendo is saying this… Did they seriously NOT KNOW that amiibos were going to be huge collectibles!? Skylanders (a game where the figurine characters are not as well known and cherished as Nintendo) sell out like bananas in Iceland.
OF COURSE amiibos were going to be a massive selling success. I knew it from the day the announced them, NO! From BEFORE they even announced amiibos, because I knew one day soon Nintendo would announce a video game toy-line to compete with Infinity and Skylanders and I KNEW it would sell amazingly well.

Every store in my area that sells amiibo are always low on stock and aisle is quite messy.
I get villager kirby and mega man today :3 yesterday i had wii fit trainer and fox so my collection is almost up to 16 and i have used them all on smash bros and are all lvl 50 and powered up XD now i do hope you can use them in offline tournament mode when it, s going to release in some update :D
But is this only for Europe? Or will there be more in North America as well? I heard there’s going to be more Marth amiibos in May (the only one I missed out on, aside from the gold Mario). But I really wanted a 2nd Villager (so I can open one). And my niece and sister missed out on several wave one amiibos. My sister started collecting too late, so that’s why she missed out on a lot. My gosh, even my 46 year old brother is obsessed with collecting them. He has 3 of many of them. Even more than I have. And he didn’t even know about amiibos until I told him. Though he has scalper ways of thinking.
My favorite amibos are all of the cartoony, detailed ones (often times with bigger heads). Like Villager, Mega Man, Toon Link, Toad etc. For some reason, the Super Mario series that recently came out looks SO much better than the Smash Bros. versions. They’re a little bigger too. I now have 2 Super Mario edition Peaches, and 2 Toads. And I eventually plan to get a 2nd Super Mario edition Bowser.
I remember Nintendo said: “You should pre-order your Amiibo”.
