Those itching to get their Splatoon fix don’t have to wait until the game comes out next week. A brand-new Iwata Asks featuring the upcoming third-person shooter is now live – complete with interesting facts and tidbits from the game’s development cycle. The interview is between Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and five members of the production department for the Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development division. The five individuals are Splatoon directors Tsubasa Sakaguchi and Yusuke Amano, art director Seita Inoue, program director Shintaro Sato and producer Hisashi Nogami. Splatoon is set to launch on May 29 for Wii U.

Why not delay the game until they can release all the content? This is silly.
Why should they? The content is being released for free, and will be released quite close to release. What this allows them to accomplish is a) hit a May release date (good for games like Splatoon, Mario Kart due to the proximity to Summer and kids leaving school), b) talk about Splatoon more at E3 through these DLC plans, and c) most importantly, show that they are continuing to support this online-dedicated game in the months to come. The game itself is still a full package, coming with a boatload of gear, three or four different modes, and a single player campaign. I’m not sure what online/shooter games people are comparing this to that have all that much more content in their first release.

Interesting…. so the original idea was White Tofu vs. Black Tofu? The developers started out with Tofu… hahahaha! Then went on to humanoid then onto rabbits. It did look pretty charming but I’m glad the developer opt to decide on a character to offer a rational reason to be shooting ink. Kind of shocked it took them that long to decide on Squid but I guess creating a game and not knowing what would fit best can really fiddle your brain and exhaust you. Their art designer is incredible though! Love the street fashion look with the rebellious teenager tone to it, lol.
I wish they Iwata questioned their reason for the content being on the Amiibo. I wonder how the developers felt towards the content being locked behind the amiibo.
Their reasons for recommending the game I agree with;
1)”The gameplay is very simple – it’s just inking colors – but it offers limitless ways to fight and there are all kinds of play styles to enjoy, so you can keep playing for a long time. That’s my biggest reason to recommend it.”
2)”I would recommend it for the controls. We really polished them to a point that I feel really confident about them, so I would like people to try them out and see for themselves.”
3)”We made the game so the gameplay experience multiplies when you cross weapon and weapon, and weapon and stage to get the widest range of game play possible. We want you to try out all the weapons as much as possible. Then I think you’ll really get an idea of the breadth and volume of gameplay.”
Also I wonder if this may come to fruition. Personally I think it will;
“This isn’t really a recommendation…it’s more like something that I’m secretly hoping will happen with this game. I do want young folks, like middle school and the upper grades of elementary school students to play it too, but I’m hoping that their mothers will see them playing the game at home, and that it will make them want to play, too. I’m really hoping that will happen.”
It sounded like they really had a lot of fun with the development. Of course it had its bumps and they struggled on a few tasks but in the end they were able to implement so many ideas that the developers favoured. With this interview, I’m very much looking forward to the game. This is why I like Nintendo; simply to play but offers depth and variety.
