If you got your hopes up for a Wii U version of Project CARS, then you might be a little disappointed. We heard earlier that the developers at Slightly Mad Studios were experiencing some problems trying to bring the game to the Wii U and now head developer, Ian Bell, wants to set the record straight. He reiterates that Project CARS for the Wii U was always a ‘maybe’ at most, and they’re still trying their best to bring it to the Wii U but if that’s not possible, then they’re turning their attention to the NX. It might be a long while before we see Project CARS on a Nintendo system.
Project CARS/Weapons of Mass Development opened funding initially as a Free to Play PC only Racing game. This is when the bulk of the funding arrived. Funding was closed late 2013.
By vote of the members, it changed to a boxed product PC/Xbox 360/PS3 and ‘maybe Wii U’ game. It was always ‘maybe’ as we had no knowledge of the system.
It was again changed, by vote of the members, to a PC/Xbox One/PS4 next gen game with still ‘maybe Wii U’ and Steam OS. The funding, as I said above, was closed long before this.
We still haven’t given up on Wii U 100% but if we can’t make it work we will move to the next Nintendo machine.

This is no loss to Wiiu owners. The controller is a nightmare to use on consoles. Just play Mario kart and have some fun!!!
Controller?
Lolwut? Just get Logitech G27.
Give this I wrote yesterday a go: https://www.reddit.com/r/wiiu/comments/37c5iq/trying_to_shed_a_little_light_into_what_the_real/
I don’t have my hopes up seeing as Ian Bell is being pretty stubborn with the idea of waiting for next hardware to arrive, but seriously: if the 2 options are go back to pre-SETA tyre physics or waiting for 2 years minimum, go back to the freaking pre-SETA model and try to do your best from there, SMS. We believe in your talent.
This was obviously going to happen.
Game would rule with gamepad tilt controls.
Just get Logitech G27.
So you pay $60 and then you pay another $150 for a steering wheel… verse paying $40 for the Wii U version and that’s it…
no race wheel on the market would match 9 axis advanced gyro and a touch screen mimmic-ing a race steering wheel
THESE CASUALS ARE BRAIN DEAD
CORE GAMER CORE GAMER OVER HERE RACE WHEEL SHAPED CONTROLLER MIMMIC ALL F1 RACEWHEEL FUNCTIONS
ADD MOST ADVANCED GYRO CONTROLS ON EARTH 9 AXIS 15 X HIGHER GYRO SENSING THAN PS4
like the guy above clearly states THE TILT WOULD OWN IN A SIM RACER
IDIOT CASUALS TROLLING AGARN DONT GET GAMING CONTROLS FUCKING IDIOTS
LETS ADD ALL THAT HUD SHIT IN THE GAME BEING ON THE TOUCH SCREEN NOT THE RACE IN GAME SCREEN
IDIOTS TALKING SHIT AGAIN DOT GET WIIU DONT GET GAMEPAD STILL AIM IN FPS WITH A STICK MOOOOOORRRRROOONNSS
And I’ll say:
Fuck you in any case.
This is why i didnt wait and got it on the ps4. I didnt believe it would happen and i dont blame them. Wiiu is on the downgrade im sorry. Half of the wiiu out there is collecting dust because of lack of games. Since 1985, i only owned nintendo machines. Christmas i got a ps4 because there was nothing new to play other then some indie games.
Now that i switched nintendo will not be my mainachine for a long time.
Just like sony said many of the ps4 owners r exnintendo buyers.
No wiiu games think you need to do your homework first before commenting
“Just like Sony said many of the PS4 owners r exnintendo buyers.”
Well, of course that has to be the case. Nintendo came first. Over time, people will buy other brands.
I think what you are referring to is how Sony thinks they are stealing away all the Wii owners, which is not true at all. Sony thought they could replicate the Wii’s success with the PS4, but that is not happening. Those who bought the Wii and made it a success have most likely not bought ANY console from this generation and if they have, they bought a Wii U for their kids.
No one expects to be able to replicate the Wii’s success (except initially Nintendo, where they triumphantly failed with the Wii U), but the PS4 is doing exceptionally well in sales. The Wii’s sales were a fad and a one-hit wonder that we most likely won’t see again.
“Those who bought the Wii and made it a success have most likely not bought ANY console from this generation and if they have, they bought a Wii U for their kids.”
Haha, no. You can’t just theorize something with nothing to back it up. I’m one of the people who migrated from the Wii to the PS4. Nintendo has a lot to make up for with the NX if they hope to get me back to buying their consoles. For now I’ll stick with my New 3DS XL, PS4, and PC.
BRWBDS BING THE KEY WORD PS4 IS PS1 A FORTH TIME RUNNING
NO ADVANCED YRO NO WII REMOTE MOUSE NO CONTROLLER CHOICE NO TOUCH CREEN
PS4 ISNT NEXT GEN ITS A CASUAL BRAND
Ok, troll.
If next-gen means ‘gimmicky controller that 3rd parties don’t want to make games for’, I’ll gladly take “casual brand” instead.
I rather have controller variety than more of the same old graphics upgrade every generation. That is what the PS4 is, just an upgraded PS3, which itself is an upgraded PS2, which itself was an upgraded PS1.
It is true though. :/
Just for my physical games I have
mario kart 8
smash bros
bayonetta 1
bayonetta 2
Hyrule warriors
The wonderful 101
zombie
Rayman legends
And I have quiet a few on my hard drive. also, there are still games I want to purchase that I havent purchased yet
Not to mention splatoon, xenoblade chronicles x, and star fox u.
No games my ass
I have all three consoles, and my Wii U isn’t getting dust. I’m playing Smash, Mario Kart and Bayo 2. On the Ps front I’m playing W3 and DC, X1 is collecting all the dust.
So during the 2012 and 2013 interview posts of them saying that it looked good, and had all the power, and how the wii u wasn’t going to get a crappy version was all a lie? Just did it to make good publicity? Wow really? Stoop that low?
yep these devs are shaping up to be biggest liars in the history of video gaming
“day and weather engine runs great on wiiu”
“this game is gonna show hidden power of wiiu”
“we are working hard on wiiu version to make sure its not another lazy port on wiiu”
these lines are what sms kept telling us and now they dare to say that wiiu version was always “maybe” lol what a shitty devs trying to lie every fucking time it comes to this version of the game.
I agree. I say if you’re mad about the Project CARS wii u situation, go get your money back, call your credit card company.
They probably already spent it. You can’t get your money back if they never offered a return policy and you trusted them with it.
It’s the price people pay for believing in something. Sometimes, you get duped.
Assuming they even gave money to back up this project. Im pretty sure nobody in their right mind would give money on an investment where they wouls not be given their money back in case of failure or displeasure with the product’s circumstances.
No. They are just not putting up with Nintendo’s insisting devs make a special version of their game for Nintendo.
I think I’m about done with the WiiU.
X, Zelda, Metroid, any Nintendo IP that’s not Mario, Yoshi, DK or Kirby.
The rest of my gaming will be on the N3DS. Not going PS4 yet.
Well, at this point I doubt either of you even bothered to look into this so I will fill you in: This situation became apparent as development went on. Multiple changes happened during the course of development, including the introduction of a new Tire model. 2/3 of the CPU cores of the Wii U would need to be allocated to tire physics with the current build (confirmed on the project cars official forums). PS4 and XB1 also require two whole cores to be allocated to it, but those consoles have 4-5 other cores that can be used for the game. The Wii U would be working with 1.
This game essential became too big for the console to handle. If they want to make it work, it would require reverting to earlier builds. And even then it seems a lot would need to be taken out of the game to make it reach a targeted 720p, 30fps.
I would agree that too many promises were made, but in scope this situation is quite different from others. So many changes happened in development that the game no longer worked as well as it did before due to the added strain.
It sucks, but this is reality. At least they are committed to not bringing out a bad version of the game to the Wii U…
Weird. The other consoles can only run 1 execution thread per core, while wii u cpu should be able to handle 2.
… So tell me why they had at one point Wii U and PC only before the PS4/Xbox One versions?
Something tells me these guys are bullshitting and damage controlling
Those are straight up lies, when searching the kickstarter money they memtioned a Wii u version.
Biggest lie of your post: This game wasn’t even funded using kickstarter…..
Having looked into this yesterday, they never had that intention to begin with. During early development, a backer created asset was used in a trailer, with the Nintendo logo present in it, but the game wasn’t even confirmed for release on Wii U until the PS3/360 versions were brought on board.
Go to their forums and read up on this. Someone tried using the PC and Wii U argument and Mr. Bell didn’t take kindly to that, nor did actual backers who gave money to the project.
>>>I can’t wait to see their tribe in ruins and full of corpses>>>
Agreed. Such a disgusting display of rudeness must punished according to the act.
I love how theyre pinning everything on a new home arriving console before 2017. Especially if Nintendo stick with PPC, theyre still going to run into the same issues.
Sadly, Power PC is being phased out in all tech sectors.
Nintendo will likely be using AMD for whatever NX is (handheld, home-console, mobile platform…). & since Nintendo wants their platforms to have uniformity, it’s also likely that whatever architecture they use for 1 platform will apply to the other(s).
http://wccftech.com/nintendo-confirms-console-powered-amd/
http://mobile.extremetech.com/latest/222459-nintendos-next-console-will-likely-use-x86-amd-chip-just-like-the-xbox-one-and-ps4?origref=https:%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F
Even if they do go with x86, it’s nintendo it’ll be configured to their spec. Third parties will still run into problems.
What a load of crap.what about the people that gave cash for the Wii U version???
“By vote of the members, it changed to a boxed product PC/Xbox 360/PS3 and ‘maybe Wii U’ game. It was always ‘maybe’ as we had no knowledge of the system.”
If funding closed late 2013 how did they have no knowledge of the system? It had been out a full year by then? This dude doesn’t even know how to lie well. What an idiot
He meant that they had no knowledge of the coding for Wii U.
Smart. Give Wii U owners the false impression you were going to 100% release it on there, and with that Wii U backers pony up the cash to get it on their console. Some years later, you have to say “Oh yeah, about the Wii U, we were never 100% sure. Too bad, your loss”.
Genius, just genius. *sarcastic applause*
They never did that. See Avid Debater’s post above.
https://youtu.be/Gp5kZnDA9As
To be fair, and I’m just keeping an open mind, those articles with “quotes” from the devs may be fabricated.
Crazier things have befallen the internet before.
I mean, I get it, why Nintendo fans are upset, but Nintendo brought this on themselves. I find the whole WiiU situation sad. I LOVE, fucking Love the gamepad. Brilliant. I just wish they put some more muscle in the box and dropped the fucking “Wii” out of the name. Nobody wants a Wii after they pulled the last one along through the dirt long after it died. It was a fad with casuals and it made Nintendo fall to Hubris and ignorance.
Still, Nintendo is one of the last companies that are good at their core…but If they pull anymore shit with their hardware, I’m fucking done. They get one more gen with me. Should they care? Yes. I’m a successful, working adult that spends thousands on Nintendo shit. And like many before me, I’m taking my $$$ elsewhere if they let me down one more time.
I posted a very similar post a couple of weeks to you. Although I don’t blame Nintendo for this company’s either lie or false hope, I do blame Nintendo for their weak console and the stupid idea to name this console Wii U, as the Wii was a casual carousel as I called it. NX or whatever their next console is is their last chance.
Having one person from the development team say that they’re working on getting 720p and 30fps but that it’ll still look good isn’t the “gotcha” moment you guys seem to think it is. It’s certainly possible that at one point in the development of the game, an iteration was thought to work well, or they thought they could get 30fps on the Wii U, but as they got to delve into the guts of the system they found they wouldn’t be able to meet those expectations. Shit happens when developing a game. Deal with it.
If they think that 2-3yrs later we’ll just forget all this happened and just buy their game, then they truly must be idiots.
Yeah, I think we can let this go. Its obviously NOT coming to a Wii U near you! And we’ll get that story here soon Budday!
Lying Much!
It’s damage control. They were keeping Wii U owners’ hopes up for a long time and now he’s saying that the Wii U version was a “maybe”? No! Just stop talking about the Wii U because everybody knows it’s never going to happen.
Makes me think Ubi did a better job at their promise with Watchdogs now. They did announce the delay, but at least they didn’t keep our hopes up after that or even call a Wii U version a “maybe”.
Wait for the NX? If the NX is not a home console , then what? After the NX announcement you’ll release an old game on the Wii U just to save face? And it will surely be a really bad port of the XBO version.
Exactly
It’s not like the Nintendroids would buy it anyway, just cancel it outright and focus on actually relevant platforms instead.
Got any proof to back that statement, or are you just pulling facts out of your ass.
Never trust someone that has ties with EA.
Oh wait! That Bowser guy that’s working on NoA’s marketing team is from EA! I’m giving him the benefit of a doubt right now since he’s actually working directly under Nintendo. The same can’t be said about Slightly Mad Studios.
So for those who gave cash for the Wii U version on Kickstarter. Are they not able to demand the cash back if complained to Kickstarter with their policies?
This gane was not a kickstarted project. It was funded through WMD.
Unless someone backed the project there, there is little complaint that may be made on the matter. At least IMO.
I cannot personally fathom why people defend actions like these from any developer. Let us all weep in unity together as gamers for the loss of Silent Hills Demo for the PS4, but Wii U is getting shafted like six times a year and it’s funny? It’s only when Konami ignores the two more popular consoles that we should be righteously indignant, but Nintendo fans should have expected this from SMS? At least Konami was straightforward about their decisions and didn’t string SH fans along for years with it. I abhor liars and that’s really more than we ever got from SMS. The certainly didn’t show any demos or videos of what they had been claiming for over two years.
When the Wii U won that voting campaign, it should have been stop a “maybe” and turn in your MAIN thing.
If the game can not run as is supposed to be, it MAYBE because they made it at a side for quite some time.
It’s also not a good idea to base your development on what a poll says, as it’s prone to fraud depending on the way its executed (multiple votes from a user, etc). Not to mention that just because someone votes that they want it doesn’t mean they’ll put up the money and buy it when it comes out, and you simply can’t rely on that to dictate what you do with a game as the main driving force.
I agree. It can be a decent indicator of user interest, but user interest is absolute crap compared to anticipated sales. It’s like with Retro City Rampage. The developer got dozens of letters asking for it to be brought to the Wii, and so it was. Then it was brought to the Wii, but the number of sales did not match the user interest of an anticipated Wii version. Interestingly enough, the developer saw a lot of social media promotion of it, but no real sales to compare with.
Some users had the audacity to tell the developer to make a Wii U version or they wouldn’t buy it…
Carlos, if every person who showed support for a game was guaranteed to buy the game, then Call of Duty would see even more sales than it does. If the amount of hype Bayonetta 2 had was equivalent to sales, it would have sold much more than it did.
Well at least they’re honest but they shouldn’t give up after all this time in development. They keep mentioning the NX as if Nintendo us going to release it, the system may not even be out by 3 years sure Nintendo said it may be revealed next E3 but it could be a tease early in development
They didn’t have a choice, they hyped the game up and then couldn’t deliver, they had to own up in the end.
This surprising as for a team that who are porting an incredibly demanding game on to the Wii U for the first time, you’d think that they wouldn’t have been so cocky about it.
We can do your homework for you. Just ask!
Write my esset https://speedypaper.com?rt=MCjOmFpO/
SMS is also a maybe as a developer. I am Not saying that ibdividually the people who form the team are bad developers, but as a team, they suck.
Get away from nintendo until you know how to program as a team.

It’s interesting to see how Project CARS faced uncertainty on the Wii U due to technical limitations and shifting development priorities. The developers’ transparency shows how complex game production can be, especially across different platforms. For students juggling gaming news and studies, using services that let someone take my exam can sometimes seem tempting, but it’s always better to focus on building your own skills and preparation.
