It turns out that Splatoon has become a big hit in Japan and copies of the game are currently very scarce indeed. The Kyoto based company has taken to Twitter to apologise for the situation and promises that more copies of the game will be available to purchase sometime next week. The company also advises that people who want the game should consider purchasing it from the Wii U eShop.

It’s an interesting gameplay mechanic, but a very creative one. And with a good story and good bosses and enemies, it makes for a truly wonderful game.
Think of it like Pikmin with Superheros

Yeah I think that too. It’s just for people who already have the console. I’m not saying it won’t sell a couple Wii U’s but Splatoon is not a system seller like Mario Kart 8 or Smash.
I know 3 people who bought systems for it.

The game is really great and I love it so much but sometimes it has communication errors you I have to quit it :( But I’m glad that it would there will be more copies of splatoon in stores!

This isn’t impressive unless we know how many copies have already sold out – they could easily have made a limited number and then when they sell out it creates the perception that there’s a huge demand for it (like what they did for Amiibos…).
Amiibos are one thing but games are another most shipments are around 100,000 copies of the game do to japans install base.
True – but since games are exponentially more expensive to make than amiibos, you also need to sell a lot more copies of the game for it to be successful. 100k for Japan is somewhat impressive these days, but it’ll be the rest of the markets that I think will really decide its success.

I can confirm that the Splatoon game is sold out in Costa Rica, went to every store and they were sold out today into the afternoon even when today was the release day here. They only had preorders, at least They had Ike and Marth amiibo restocks so I got those and also I was able to get my 3-pack Splatoon amiibo preorder.
