Add Custom Motion Controls For The Second Player In Splatoon’s Battle Dojo With This Quirky Setup

Adding motion controls to a second player in Splatoon’s Battle Dojo mode is a cinch – according to Nintendo’s official Squid Research Lab Tumblr page. All you need is some ingenuity, determination, and a bunch of string. These are the instructions, straight from Nintendo:

“On the controller selection screen for Battle Dojo, press and hold down on the +Control Pad, press and hold B, and then press ZR and ZL.

It seems a Wii Remote Plus is necessary to perform this incredible feat. This technique also appears to be possible when using a Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro! When using a Wii U Pro Controller, first press ZL and ZR to select that as your controller, and then press the 2 Button on the Wii Remote Plus to activate it.”

Battle Dojo is Splatoon’s 1v1 local multiplayer mode, in which players race to score points points by popping balloons in an arena. Each balloon is worth one point and the first to 30 points wins the match. While the first player uses the Wii U Gamepad, the second player has a trio of controller options, including the Wii U Pro Controller, Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro.

Though the above image is slightly strange, we still wonder who had the initial inkling in the first place. So, really, how you decide to wrap the Wii Remote onto your Wii U Pro Controller is up to you. Perhaps it’s a stable enough option, but is it worth the extra effort? Let us know in the comment section below.

  1. That’s…..kind of ridiculous. And here I thought Nintendo couldn’t go any further with gimmicky bullshit controller options.

      1. Obviously. But the fact that they actually allow you to do shows they still need to learn to prioritize instead of implementing stupid control schemes.

  2. I love how the person in the demonstration has the wrist strap on, even though they’re just using it with a normal controller.

  3. “They didn’t make me buy a $50 peripheral to pay this game, therefor it’s garbage”.

internal gyro from wii controller + wiiu pro controller = motion control + 2 analog thumbsticks. the pro controller doesn’t have an internal gyro, that’s why you need the wiimote. this is actually kind of clever, and easy to do yourself if you want to play on a even field with a friend 1v1 – which, you may recall, is actually an ancillary mode of the game and by no means the primary draw.

you guys are working hard to complain about stuff at this point.

    1. Lol no nintendrone, we aren’t working hard to complain. It is in fact quite easy to say this is stupid because it is inherent in the idea: TYING TWO CONTROLLERS TOGETHER TO MAKE UP FOR THEIR LACK OF FEATURES. It is quite the contrary, y’all are going to great lengths to defend this bs. Silly silly nintendrones, gobbling up anything Nintendo says or does.

  4. im playing splatoon right now, im in story mode. if you get the secret page in level 26 you see a wii mote strapped to a pro controller lol
