A Reddit user claims that GameStop may no longer take pre-orders on future amiibo releases. Megamanultra says he had a word with the regional GameStop manager and talked to him at length about amiibo and the pre-order situation. The manager claims to have said that they will no longer takes reservations or preorders for future amiibo. They will also limit amiibo sales to one per person.
Also, happened to run into the Gamestop regional manager when I went to grab Shulk. He mentioned that he has gotten word that they will no longer take reservations/preorders for future Amiibo. All future Amiibo will reportedly be like the 29th, a sign in the window noting what they have, and no presales. Limits will be one of each figure per person. And to limit people using multiple accounts, they have apparently just updated their system to be able to track for multiple accounts using the same address. Looks like preorder setups are definately changing.

Amiibo restocks seem to be completely random for the most part, so as to make it more fair, whenever they have more stock, they’ll open a new page as to not have people stalking and lagging single pages in the process waiting for things to come back. Wave 4 did actually have both online and in store preorders as well…they just sold out faster than any other wave is all.

My EB Games already is telling everyone NO MORE AMIIBO PRE-ORDERS. Walmart isn’t doing them in my city anymore, neither is Bestbuy. Seems most stores across North America are sick of this shit lol, so they are all saying 1st come first serve.

I don’t think this will make a difference. I was in the front lines of all this madness for a long while, until I lost the interest. People are still going to complain either way, whether it is online or in store only, people are going to miss out because of the limited stock.
Coupled with the obvious fact that many of these retailers have handled this so poorly, on top of Nintendo already adding more gas to a raging flame by never shipping enough. While other countries are just stocked full of them. That’s the problem.
For instance, Gamestop straight up lied about wave 4. I still have not forgotten this, they said wave 4 online pre-orders were sold out, when they never once even put the pre-orders online to begin with. So how do you sell out of something, you never even sold in the first place?
There has just been so much shady crap that has went on with these Amiibos, and in all this time, the situation really hasn’t improved in many places. I’ll give it some more time, but Nintendo made similar statements when wave 1 had the same problems, so I’m not too hopeful. Since they have not improved anything since then, either.
I mean look at Target also, think about it. If Target Sold out of Jiggly Puff in a matter 2-3 minutes, selling 500 units per minute. Then it’s pretty damn obvious they barely got any stock, compared to the 1,900+ target stores there are.
Considering the suckers in the Nintendo fanbase, Nintendo will just fix this problem with amiibo cards & just say to hell with those of us that want more than just the NFC features but an awesome figurine to put up on display at our homes for us to look at. I hope I’m wrong but the fact Nintendo isn’t even trying to fix the amiibo shortage makes it hard for me to be optimistic.

Judging from some comments, the stopping of pre-orders is a good thing. But sadly, the stopping of pre-orders will actually just show how much worse the amiibo shortage really is when a lot of small town stores don’t even have an amiibo someone wants because Dumbtendo isn’t fucking shipping enough.
