Lucas To Be Banned From EVO2015

Mother 3’s main protagonist will not be making the cut for EVO2015’s Super Smash Bros. tournament. News comes by way of one of the organizers, Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar, who states that Lucas (who is slated to release in June) is simply released too close to the date of the games:

This seems like a pretty understandable move for the infamous July 2015 tournament, seeing that balance may still be an issue and may not be patched by then. However, Cuellar went on to include that even if Lucas manages to get patched, tournament play will still be prohibited until next year.

Thanks Fred for the tip!

    1. If you think anyone is going to be spamming smash attacks with any character then you clearly don’t know much about competitive smash.

      1. Dude I’ve been playing smash prolly since before you were born don’t even try and tell me about competitive smash.

    1. Because we aren’t idiots like you, and btw a company doesn’t have a gender or sexuality… Thanks

  1. If people don’t understand why he is banned is because of balancing (as said), and learning the guy. Yes I know Lucas was in Brawl but different stats will be implemented (hopefully). So yeah, Bye

  2. This is stupid. You have a whole month to learn to play as him or counter him. That should be enough time.

  3. A normal move from a tournament… If he was allowed and so overpowered like ness or diddy before the patchs people would complain and it would break the game balance and by the way i thinl that smash with the new patchs is an awesomely well balances game

      1. He was my Brawl main, and based on his trailer, he functions the same way. We don’t know what, if any, differences he will have in this installment, but with his moveset appearing largely unchanged, he’s pick-up-and-play for me.

          1. I meant for me, since I knew him inside and out in Brawl and the only thing to have changed so far is his model. Maybe he’s the exact same, maybe he isn’t, but I’m playing him the moment he’s available.

    1. Indeed, but it was never written on this site or covered by major outlets. So we thought it was worth noting with his upcoming release

    1. True, but (i) we never covered it and just got the tip, (ii) a ton of people haven’t heard it, (iii) it seems relevant in light of his imminent release.

  4. What do you mean by “patched” and “balance may still be an issue”? He isn’t even released yet, or did I miss something?

    1. He’s not out yet, but he’s not allowed because people wont have enough time to learn the character. Also, we don’t know if he’ll be the most broken character ever or something.

    2. The idea is that he may come out unbalanced — it is a preemptive measure in case he needs to be patched, so people don’t practice with him in expectation of being able to play at Evo.

  5. Awesome, only what 2 days till we can download him!? I’ve already got my monies in my bank for him.

  6. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

    >>>As always it’s the useless civilians complaining about illusions that aren’t even there, you better not be one of these Boss Ass Bitch or you’ll disappoint me forever>>>

Makes sense. Doesn’t matter to me, though, because I don’t watch competitive Smash tourneys.

  8. This seems like such a wussy move. Surely the point of a tournament is a test of skill and ability? Not a measure of how well you have memorized each character’s stats and move-sets against each other. Limiting what parts of a game you can use in a test of skill on said game is so bizarre. If you are scared you won’t be able to face a new character in a game maybe you shouldn’t enter the tournament?
