Nintendo Releases A New Update For Splatoon

Nintendo has made a new update for Splatoon available for download. Update version 1.3.0 implements a number of new additions to the Wii U shooter, including several changes to Splatfest and minor adjustments to special weapons and abilities. Full patch notes for update 1.3.0 are listed below:

Splatfest:

  • When there are more members on one team than the other and the match-making process takes too long, members from the same team will be able to battle each other
  • Members will still receive Splatfest Points even when they battle against members of the same team
  • Note: Only the results from matches against the opposing team will be included in the overall Splatfest results
  • Adjustments have been made to allow some players at random to participate as early as 5 minutes prior to the official start time of Splatfest in order to make for a more pleasant gaming experience (Note: All players will be able to participate once the event begins)
  • This adjustment was made to lighten the server load at the beginning of the Splatfest
  • Adjustments have been made to the number of Super Sea Snails distributed to members of the losing team that have earned either of the top two Splatfest rank titles
    Special Weapon Adjustments:
  • Inkstrike: The amount of area covered will be more consistent regardless of where it lands
  • Kraken: The amount of knockback is increased when taking damage from an opponent while using Kraken

Ability Adjustments:

  • Ninja Squid: Swim speed will be lowered when using this ability
  • Stealth Jump: The amount of time it takes to Super Jump will be longer when using this ability
  • Ink Resistance Up: The effects with respect to the amount of damage and speed when moving through enemy ink will be adjusted

Other:

  • Other adjustments will be made to make for a more pleasant gaming experience

  1. Thank goodness for that Inkstrike fix- sometimes it will cover a massive area and the next one I fire off barely does half of what the first one did.

    1. I must pick horrible spots to inkstrike, cause mine have never covered much of anything. If anything it’s been more of a waste of time to use, and a liability.

      1. It’s not always about WHERE you hit, but WHEN. I’ve found that a good time to use an Inkstrike is right after a teammate uses their Echolocator. If you see the opponents all clustered together, launch a strike there and split up anyone who doesn’t get splatted by it. And on my first Tower Control match, I placed a strike right where the tower was going (not where it was), got 2 enemy players, and forced the others to back off. Won us the match.

  2. Now if only there could be an update so that we can wear clothes for only cosmetics while equipping clothes under them for abilities.

  3. Great, the only useful abilities have been nerfed. Instead of nerfing the good ones, they should have buffed the useless/bad ones, imo.

    1. I don’t understand increasing the stealth jump time, but the ninja squid is a good balance. The speed reduction is trivial right now.

  4. Intro skip option, Beef up servers, No loss of -10 points in ranked battles due to connection errors. Had four in a row happen. Dropped like a brick in rankings. Kind of sucked losing points for no reason. Shitty teams are one thing, but not even being able to play is an other. I’m curious to see how the 4th of July (5th of July where I live) Splatfest plays out. Tentacles crossed..

    1. I just hate being stuck on shitty teams you could clearly help play better, but you can’t say shit to them cause there isn’t voice chat.

I hated that crap in MK8 too, in ranked matches, people would disconnect a lot in the game and it would drop your ranking so fast. They need to distinguish disconnections, from players who quit out the game. Splatoon is only global also, it isn’t like you can just play in your region to ensure a better online experience.

  5. So was Ink resistance nerfed or buffed? Anyone know what the actual changes were? I’m on vacation so I can’t check for my self.

        1. Whoops, sorry. Couldn’t tell you. So I’ll repost what it says.

“Ink Resistance Up: The effects with respect to the amount of damage and speed when moving through enemy ink will be adjusted”

  6. This maybe just me but I wish they would add a pants option for customization… or is it because there squids? Idk I just find it weird that they all have the generic black shorts. I think furthering the customization, adding weapon and clothes lay outs to change while in lobby, and voice chat. Would be welcomed in an intensive update

    1. There’s clearly enough room to add a third map into rotation on the Stages subscreen- they’ll probably allow it once more stages are available (and I’m willing to bet that camp map is next up).
