Japan: Nintendo 3DS Sells 27K And Wii U Sells 13K

This week’s Japanese video game sales charts are now in thanks to Media Create. Unsurprisingly, the latest entry in the Fire Emblem franchise has kept the first-place spot, with Fire Emblem Fates: Black Kingdom proving to be the most popular of the two games. Splatoon refuses to leave the top 10, pulling in at number 3 this week behind Rhythm Heaven: The Best+. In the top 20 games, twelve are Nintendo titles (9 for Nintendo 3DS, 3 for Wii U).

    1. Wii U games outselling PS4 games, but PS4 outselling Wii U? Wii U owners are dedicated. First Wii U game on the list Splatoon 34,000, first PS4 game Devil may cry 4,000, PS4 sales 18,000, Wii U sales 13,000.

      1. Most of ps4 games are sold digitally while wiiu are retailed thats why ; )
Fuck U GET IT? HAAHAHAAHAHHAAJA NINTENDOOMed

      1. No the Wii U and the PS4 have been on and off the top spot for home consoles in Japan. For about 4-5 weeks the Wii U was selling up to 11,000 more than the PS4 possibly more I can’t remember exactly.

  1. The first PS4 game is in 9th place with 5000 sales and still PS4 sold more than WiiU!
    Why is this?!

  2. Wii U software are on top of the list, but hardware the PS4 is above Wii U… Does that mean Japan has taste or not Nintendo fanboys?

  3. This essentially reminds me that the wait for a localized Rhythm Heaven Best+ game will take a loooooong time. At least playing some Fever over my girlfriend’s house ought to keep me busy.

  5. Xenblade only sold 100k in Japan. I knew that was going to happen, because the first game was not popular in Japan. Yet Monolith Soft still pushed the Japanese development months ahead of the Western development..

Bad move on Monolith Soft side. Now the hype for Xenoblade has come to a crawl. It will effect sales in the West. Those who were on the fence will no longer buy the game..

Imagine if the game was still yet to be released in Japan. And it released everywhere simultaniously. The hype would still be through the roof, and it would dramatically improve sales across the board..

I love Xenoblade, but Monolith Soft are a bunch of idiots. They shot themselves in the foot with this out of date, 1990’s styled release strategy.

“Yea I know! Let’s make our biggest market for the game wait the longest! And then lets make sure there are spoilers all over the internet from the Japanese release too! That should help drive sales!”

    Sincerely Monolith Soft.

    1. Monolith Soft is a first party developer for Nintendo, so any decisions based on release date and marketing are strictly done by Nintendo. Don’t blame the developers for Nintendo continually fucking up how they handle releasing games.

  6. Xbox hanging in there! Seriously though I bet it cost more to ship/market Xbox there than it makes.

On another subject, the U.S. has shittier taste than Japan…. Can we say Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, And the like going round and round ?
