Nintendo Announces $90 Xenoblade Chronicles X Special Edition

Xenoblade Chronicles X fans in North America will be able to get their hands on a special edition of the upcoming Wii U role-playing game when it launches on December 4. The special-edition version is priced at $89.99 and includes a copy of the game, a book of concept art with over 100 pages, and a USB drive modeled after the game’s “Lifehold Unit” that comes pre-loaded with a selection of 10 music tracks from the game’s soundtrack. The special edition also contains a limited-edition art card of a painting done for the game by illustrator Takashi Kojo.

    1. Totally worth it. 60$ for the game, 30$ for the Art Book, 15$ for the custom USB, and whatever the art card is. It could equal to more than 110$.

      1. There are art books that are much larger that sell in retail for $20 and $15 for 10 music files would be kind of a ripoff no matter how good the music is. And the art card probably costs like $0.50 to print. They just added that to add value. I’m still buying it, I just wish they charged less or had more in the package like more music or a larger art book.

        1. Depends on how much data the custom USB can hold, actually. If it can hold around 32 gigs of data, I’d say that’s worth 15-20 bucks alone.

  1. That is so awesome! I’m defiantly going to be getting this edition of the game. When do preorders start for this?

  2. Nice to see that NA actually gets one of these damn special editions, for once.

I don’t care enough to spend $90 on it, personally, but it’s still pretty cool!

  3. This is an awesome deal and special edition version. I was gonna preorder it but it’s sold out on Amazon. Here’s hoping GameStop or Walmart or Best Buy will carry it. I think Xenoblade Chronicles X is gonna end up being a million seller for sure now

    1. Well, the only big releases for WiiU are StarFoxZero, Mario Maker and Xenoblade Chronicles X these are the games that are released during 2015. Then theres ZeldaU for 2016, so not really a wonder if Xenoblade manages to get million sales when theres barely much any other games coming to the system, what could WiiU owners choose between? Not much….

However if WiiU were to get the same 3rd party titles that are on XboxOne/Ps4, StarWars: BattleFront, COD BLOPS3, MetalGearSolidV, Fallout4 etc. then Xenoblade would barely probably make it to half million sales.

Im really starting to believe to the conspiracy that Nintendo is on purpose damaging their 3rd party support in order to sell more of their own games.

      1. Your assumptions would lean on Nintendo actually caring if they don’t sell their games all at once (which they don’t seem to care very much about) versus over time (which is how most of their games sell anyways).

They’re not paying third parties for games and third parties want money to put their games on consoles. That’s the cut and dry of it. I doubt PC pays for games and look at how shoddy PC ports have gotten.

      2. I’ll be picking up this year, at least, StarWars: Battlefront, MGSV, Halo 5, Fallout 4, Rise of The Tomb Raider and Forza Motorsport 6. I mentioned all these titles to say that there will be amazing games coming out this year. Besides that, all these titles were way better marketed than XCX — specially MGSV and StarWars, for example. For the Wii U, I’ll pick up Mario Maker, and am still on the fence about Wooly’s World, Star Fox and XCX.

I know several people that are more or less in the same situation I am: not sure about picking up games for the Wii U — which is sad for people who grew up on Nintendo like me.

On the conspiration statement, that would be likely impossible, since without 3rd party support, the hardware sales decreases, decreasing the install base, and leading to descreased software sales. I still believe that Nintendo is regrettably adrif, lost, out of touch.

        1. MGS 5 and Fallout 4 is the must pick for me. I currently playing MGS 5 and I enjoyed it so far. And for Wii U, for this year I only interested in Yoshi, XCX and Project Zero 5 but unfortunately, I need to preorder the limited edition to get retail version (not preorder yet, still thinking).

I will not pick up Star Wars because I’m a kind of person who likes playing SP and coop split screen, rarely plays online. And for other Xbox xclusive, I will wait for more games to come out before I purchase xbox1.

3rd party support is very important and yes, what you’ve said are true. Nintendo is very poor in marketing. Even in my hometown, most of people knew what are ps3,xbox360, ps4, xbox1 but they never heard of Wii U. When I told them I got Wii U and PS4, they said “Woow, a ps4!! Can I try it?” I replied ” Want to play Wii U?” And they said,” Wii U? What is that? Isn’t the name was Wii? ” Bwahahahah…

          1. I had forgotten about Fatal Frame! Yeah, this I’ll be probably picking up in early 2016, since I’ll have a number of games to play in the queue. It’s sad the we need to go for the digital version of it, but still, Nintendo at least localized the title.

It’s good you are enjoying Ground Zeroes. It is a great game, yet short. But I was lucky enough to find a brand new copy in the bargain bin and paid 12 bucks for it.

On the Wii/Wii U confusion… Man, I’ve seen this happening several times… Quite sad, I really wanted the Wii U to skyrocket and become a great platform…

            1. Not Ground Zeroes man hahah. Now I’m playing Phantom Pain already hahah. Cutscenes were amazing!! And for Fatal Frame, I will have to sacrifice my money to get the limited edition. I hate digital version kind of game unless it’s small in size. My internet is not good to download.

Wii U is good console but the marketing is very poor so less people know and wanted to buy Wii U. then it cause less base install which lead to lack of 3rd party support. At my hometown, Wii U is almost non-existence. I thought I’m the only one who got a Wii U.

              1. Oh, managed to get an early Phanton Pain copy! Congrats!

I love the series, and cannot wait to go to my local store and grab a copy for me on the 1st. Haven’t decided yet on which platform, though.

I like my Wii U as I really enjoy MK8 and Bayonetta 2, maybe two of the best games this generation. But this is so little compared to what the Wii U could be. Despite of lack of 3rd party support, Nintendo should have released GameCube titles on it, and made more classic titles from NES, SNES and N64 available on the virtual console. That would increase the appeal amongst Nintendo’s old-school, “hardcore” fanbase. But… It didn’t happen…

        2. To be honest, I doubt this game would sell a lot even if there wasn’t competition or had good marketing. Not because I think its gona be bad (Xenoblade is one of my top ten favorite games of all time and I really think this game is going to be amazing, only reason alongside smash I actually bought a WiiU) but becaus e it is a niche game. For JRPG’s is very hard to get a lot of atention in NA, especially with such a weird name, even with good marketing.

    2. bausch from dalmasca

I asked the guy at gamestop and he said they were likely getting what numbers they are actually going to get still so they dont have to cancel any orders. Amazon will probably put more up when they have a final number on what they will be getting. Asuming nintendo doesnt limit this to some rediculous number.

      1. The Singaporean distributor usually does a good job converting the price. They are not scalpers who bought from Amazon.

  4. I’m SO glad that I don’t give a crap about this game. Because if I did, I’d be giving the double middle finger at that price!

      1. I love garage sales. And thrift stores.
The only way I’d pay THIS much money for ANY bundle is if the game was AWESOME, and the extras was actually something cool. None of that applies to this.

      2. If I remember correctly, he doesn’t like robots with faces so Xenoblade Chronicles is not his thing. Probably hates Transformers, too.

    1. At first I thought you meant this as a joke as in it’s already out of stock, but shit it really is. I just called my local GameStop and am waiting from the news from them. I must have this.

  5. Only 10 music files? That’s kind of a ripoff. The Smash Bros soundtrack had like 72 tracks and that was free. I would have preferred a CD(s) if it had more tracks to it. That’s less than a fifth of the music. To buy the complete soundtrack it costs about $40, so you’re only going to get about $8 worth of that music. The USB looks cool, but I would rather have more music than a fancy USB that will collect dust.

This should’ve been $80 at most.
$60 or less for the game
$10-20 for the art book and card
    $5-10 for the USB drive

    1. Video game music is expensive because it doesnt come from tbe the same resources music comes from because it isnt high demand. So when it is sold, it is pricy.

      1. All the music is is data files. Its not like it costs more to download the files onto the USB. I don’t really get your point. The whole soundtrack CD set of 55 tracks is $40 on amazon. And that’s sold separately without anything else. I’m not complaining about that price am I?

  6. I’m so fucking bored it’s beyond depressing…I mean, apart from X and Fire emblem, nintendo has no upcoming legitimately good games coming up! Console fire emblem? Nah. Metroid? Nah. Paper Mario TTYD sequel? Nah. 2d kirby like returns to dreamland? Nope. New luigi’s mansion? Denied. Super mario galaxy 3/sunshine 2? Never!

Metroid prime fed force and animal crossing amiibo ripof-er festival? Sign me up for that shit!!!!!

OMG why did nintendo have to commit suicide!!

            1. Nope, last time I truly enjoyed Mario was Sunshine. Really depressing… I wish Nintendo went back to the big open environments exploration approach. As for now, Xenoblade and Fatal Frame are the only Wii U games that piqued my interest in a long time. There’s also Splatoon, but I’m not so sure about that one. And the fact that my Wii U is paperweight, due to disc drive issues, doesn’t help. I’m inclined to buy a new one when Xenoblade comes out, but the rumors about the NX possibly releasing next year make the matter worse.

  7. http://m.gamestop.com/product/ps4/games/metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain-collectors-edition/120844

Just to give an example… Every other deveoloper\console manufacturer comes out with some collectors edition for an exorbitant amount of money and everyone rushes off to buy it for $99-$200,
Nintendo announces one and “its too expensive!” Is the nauseating refrain that everyone utters… Its ridiculous! I like this CE so I might actually get it, never gotten one before, but the price is better than most CE prices. Don’t like it, don’t buy it; its that simple, just don’t act like its the most expensive CE ever to come out.

    1. The $99-$200 collectors edition packages come with much better stuff though, It’s still worth paying $90, but everyone knows they could have sold it for a bit less or added more to the package. The collectors edition of Phantom Pain as a crap load more stuff than this and it’s only $10 more. The collectors edition of Phantom Pain was a really good deal, the one for Xenoblade X is a ripoff in comparison.

      1. Opinions there fella. What you say has value to you, does not hold the same value to me. Therefore, it is down to our opinion… I prefer my opinion to yours. Simple as that.

      1. Of course you do because you’ve been raised and educated as a wild horse in a very dirty stable

You’re just blind fanboy who shows up at different Nintendo sites under different nicknames always preaching your empty speech

That really does not amaze anyone here

  8. You know I always go to this website for the latest news, and the one time I don’t go to neogaf this happens. You posted this after the fucking edition sold out. Man, fuck.

  9. The same thing happened with Monster Hunter 4 Collector’s Edition, but Amazon had a few back in stock a couple days after it sold out. I’m just going to keep checking. I want this for sure.

  10. Finally! Yes! Yes! Thank you Nintendo of America for doing this! I’m so getting this but damn it’s already sold out on Amazon. I must get it!

  11. Shame this is a game I’ll most likely go digital with. But since I want to see Star Wars Episode VII in December, 80 bucks is pricey so it’s no huge loss that i won’t be getting this collector’s edition.
