Year Walk On Wii U Is The ‘Best’ Version

If you’re wondering which platform to play Year Walk on, Wii U is probably your best bet. According to developer Simogo, the upcoming Wii U version is the best iteration of the adventure title. The game introduces several new features specific to Wii U, such as allowing players to use the Wii U GamePad to study a folklore encyclopedia, decipher hints, take notes and listen for clues. Year Walk arrives on Wii U via the Nintendo eShop on September 17.

“All versions of the game have specific things I like about them, but I think the Wii U version is the best version for me,” Simogo’s Simon Flesser said in a recent interview. “If you didn’t know about the PC or iOS versions, you’d think ‘this is such a Wii U game.’ Me and Magnus from Simogo and Rhod from Dakko Dakko, we like to design for specific platforms or specific interfaces.”

  1. I’ve never played it and don’t know if I will, but I’m honestly surprised that something like 5 Nights At Freddies isn’t on Wii U. The touch screen would be perfect for controls and the main TV would be the camera monitors. Good to see companies take advantage of the Wii U!

  2. This seems like a really rude thing to say in light of all their fans who bought the game on PC or iOS.

“Oh yeah, by the way guys, you bought the inferior version.”

I’m not speaking out of experience though- honestly I didn’t even know about the existence of this game until now

    1. No. Not at all. That just seems to be the usual thing to say about a game coming out ages after other versions. The need some excuse to get ppl to buy it anyway and I guess that’s OK. That’s not a 70bucks game, it’s just a few bucks. considering, that it’s a very, very short game, they should be carful hyping it though. It’s very good and I bought it on my iPhone and don’t regret it. There’s not even a chance that the WiiU version could be so much better. It has the companion included, that’s nice, but not really necessary. Does it make the game a begtter experience though? I guess so, but it’s not like I’m really sad about missing that experience.
I’d rather say, that this game is designed for smart devices and works best there. And Simogo is just specialized in delivering very, very great smartphonegames like device 6. They really understand how to make use of these devices unique abilities and for the WiiU, it’s just a port. Maybe not the worst port, actually what I’ve seen so far looks pretty cool, but it remains a port and it’s just like translations in movies: I tend to watch the movies how they were supposed to sound without translations just like I like to play games on the platform they were supposed to be played on. But in the end, I guess the WiiU version will be a great game too and fgar superior to the PC version which I just can’t imagine how that could really be any fun. It’s just very touch-control heavy and the whole game’s look and feel lives from that.

      1. Those are very fair points. If you’re not annoyed by what they said as someone who owns the iOS version, I’ll admit that I was wrong to assume as much :P I think what Simogo said was taken out of context anyway in the title of this article post; he did after all only say that it was “the best version for me,” not “the best version.”

  3. Yawn.. An Indie game. Please rename Wii U to. Wii Indietendo U or WindieU. All Wii U eShop gets is indies. U guys only get 3 new games. Xenoblade, Starfox U, Yoshi Pooly Torld. Lol only 3 this year with Good quantity and no DLC glitches bug high baked DLC’s… U win on that one but still 3 games lol!

    1. Is indie games suppose to be a bad thing? People play video games. Whether from big name developers or no name developers. It doesn’t matter who make them as long as someone is making them and they are fun to play. You tried to insult indie games but I don’t think anyone is offended by your comment.

      1. Yea, nobody really cares about comments like that. Especially when he says we’re only getting three games this whole year, which is not true. We got/getting Splatoon, yoshis wooly world, fatal frame, star fox, Xeno X, Devils third, Kirby, Skylanders, tons of good indies, ect. That’s a few more than 3 and I’m sure I missed some. Not a bad year.
