Tatsumi Kimishima, who is now the President of Nintendo, has told Japanese news publication The Nikkei that he predicted that the Wii U wouldn’t be a hit with consumers. From what I can gather he thought the name was too similar to Wii, which is one of the things that consumers were initially confused about. Whether or not he backed the actual concept with the GamePad is currently unknown, but hopefully he can right the wrongs and get the Nintendo NX off to a good start. We shall be hearing more details about the NX sometime next year.

I mean, what they’ve been doing so far is making them money, Amiibo, working with youtubers? All making them money. You can think it’s shitty, I think them going to mobile is shitty, I hate it, yeah, I wish they’d just make video games, and they still DO, but they need these other things to stay afloat. It’s easy to say that they should avoid mobile from a fan perspective, but this is how a business is run. Nintendo makes games because they love making games, but they also need money, which requires “selling out”.
I like Amiibos. They just had a to big of a success as anybody expected. But I’m not sure about mobile. Hopefully this new president and the Nx can change the whole thing around. And with the early changes from the prez and all these amazing Nx rumors are getting me very excited!
And yet, we’re still waiting for a game that takes on Infinity/Skylander’s mantle. Only Smash Bros. used it for AI which level 9 AI is practically the same crap so Amiibo has no more use than being a Microtransaction scheme for Nintendo main games besides portable/mobile which is just as worse.
I don’t want to see Nintendo make a skylanders/Disney Infinity type game. The thing that sets apart is that they are iconic characters from different games that give bonus content to many games. They’re not made to promote just 1 game and have multiple functions.
I would like to see more games use them to their potential, but I don’t want to see them make a game solely based on amiibo. Amiibo are toys and the in game content are just cool bonuses. Skylanders and Disney Infinity are games that force you to purchase toys to have a lot of features that easily could be unlocked in game or as DLC. They base the entire game around pushing the player to purchase thier toys. I don’t want to see amiibo turn into a money pit scheme where you can ONLY have core content if you own them.

I love the Wii U as well, I play Smash Bros, Mario Maker and Mario Kart all the time! But fact is the console was a flop and its getting replaced before it can even make the 5 year mark! Wii U was a bad name, it confused consumers and that in turn hurt them in potential sales. Its one of many things they did wrong with the Wii U despite the fact the games were fantastic.

How is it getting replaced before the 5 year mark? Nintendo has said nothing of a new home console. All Nintendo has said is that they will speak about NX in 2016. This does and does not mean reveal. Speak about could be anything. I think a lot of people will be disappointed expecting a new home console before Wii U end its normal cycle.
True, Nintendo said they would talk about NX next year. This means they’re gearing up for a new launch either a handheld or a console. Usually when a company is ready to talk about their next hardware they are within roughly a year before it launches. If they release the NX between 2016 and early 2017 and it is a console, the Wii U will have lasted less than 5 years. Year-wise it would make the most sense to reveal a new handheld, but everything has pointed towards a console instead.
The nickname NX sounds more like the future of something big, something like a console. Secondly, whenever Nintendo mentions the NX they refer to it as the next step. And finally the most convincing evidence is their recent patent for a console that clearly has a gamepad and no disc drive (I suppose this could also be a late model of a Wii U). To add to this all rumors seem to point to it being a console, well a console + handheld hybrid. I know we should take rumors with a grain of salt, but they shouldn’t be ignored.
Even if it is a handheld people are already talking, and the consensuses seem to believe its a console. So this blind belief is taking away a good number of sales the Wii U could have had. People like to think ahead and because many people are jumping to conclusions (myself included) they’ll likely hold back on buying the current hardware, its games and its accessories. This proves you shouldn’t make announcements before you’re ready to reveal something! Nintendo should have waited till next year to mention the NX to avoid this issue!

The Wii U came out late 2012, for it to hit the 5 year mark the NX (if its a console) would have to launch late 2017 and no sooner! Considering they said they were going to talk about it in 2016, it means they’re gearing up for a release and it’ll probably be in the ballpark of 1 year after they make the announcement.
If this announcement happens early next year (they never mentioned when they’d talk about it) the NX could potentially launch summer 2017. Again if this is a console the Wii U will be an old gen in less than 5 years which is obnoxiously short.
The Wii U isn’t meeting Nintendo’s expectations for sales currently while the 3DS is making bank! With things I pointed out and the fact that they don’t need a new handheld why would they need a new handheld if its the sole purpose Nintendo is still doing decent? If anything they should be concerned about improving their console or getting ready for its replacement.
If you want to stay in the dark, feel free to do so. But the writing is on the wall and this is probably going to be a new console! Nintendo needs to break their bad habits and become more competitive or they won’t last long! Let’s address your handheld portion. Why would Nintendo need a new handheld? The 3DS is not selling the same as it was. It is a year and some change older than the Wii U. I am not in the dark. Get rid of NFC technology and work on power. Power sells gimmicks. Also add 3 more gigs to the NX. Im sure Iwata’s spec sheet had a ridiculous low amount of Gigs for gaming and OS. Add 3 more cores than what the actual spec sheet intended. Also make it able to handle HD on youtube without buffering. Stupud to bearly give it just enough power to handle HD.

Why should they have to unveil it? What are the specs going to do for you? Do you buy specs or do you buy video games? If you do buy specs then you should never buy a Nintendo console again because they will not be saying specs or than the basics that won’t give you any information. No one has ever determined the specs of the Wii U and probably won’t ever because the parts are customized.

Iwata was dumb thinking the Gamepad needed just 25ft away. Stupid to not finding a way to increase battery life to the Gamepad when Project Cafe was in R&D. Stupid in thinking Wii U would sell and ignoring that after the gimmick of the wii gotten old sales flopped. They should have made corrections to Project Cafe then the mintue wii sales begin to decline. Now with this new President admitting Nintendo messed up Wii U in R&D too focused on making it better than PS3 and ignoring Sony had a PS4 in R&D at the time, thats why Wii U is a failure. You can buy an extended battery for the gamepad that takes it to 6 hours of play. It’s awesome, you should try it!
Yeah. And you can also keep the gamepad plugged in while you’re playing. If you’re too far away from an outlet, there are these things called extension cords. My gamepad has never run out of battery.
And you can also use much better controllers like the gamecube for smash, and the Hori fight pad (best gamecube knockoff) for everything else and never have to touch that trash pad again! Yay for options, the savior of wii u!

When SNES came out, people were not bored with NES. So putting the “SUPER” prefix just made sense. However it was not the same for Wii u.
