@devatrox Not at the moment, sorry. It's just used as an alternate screen if someone is using the TV. Would be cool though. :)

Minecraft: Wii U Edition isn’t going to allow you to manage your inventory on the Wii U GamePad from the get-go. This is according to Mojang‘s director of creative communications, Owen Hill, who says the controller’s touch screen can only be used as an alternate screen for those who want to utilize the off-TV play feature. Minecraft: Wii U Edition will launch on December 17 via the Nintendo eShop. It will come with several add-on content packs, including the Natural Texture, City Texture and Fantasy Texture packs.
“Not at the moment.”…
So you’re saying there’s a chance?
maybe in a future update but i wouldnt count on it. still getting it but not til next year, possibly early 2016 (march or april)
They freakn better! I’m still going to get it and even though I was excited when they first announced it, I knew there would be some sort of hype popper, and I guess this was it (maybe more).
I think it would be brainless for Mojang/MS to exclude GamePad implementations, so that combined with the fact that they will have future updates and exclusive Nintendo content, there’s still a chance for them to simply display a pause screen on the GP. [I’m giving MS and Mojang the benefit of the doubt, they have never made a game for WiiU.]
well there goes that missed opportunity. I think it wouldve been great like in Wind Waker HD where managing inventory could be done without having to pause the game, because its on your gamepad.
First of all, what the fuck.
Second, this makes it sound like they’re rushing the game, which wouldn’t be surprising considering what time if the year it is.
If the gamepad doesn’t do anything special, please don’t waste your money on buying another version of the game.
Well there goes all incentive to buy the game. Stupid Majong, don’t you know what people want? Do you want this to sell poorly?
Exactly. Ever since the WiiU got launched, I often read ‘imagine how cool Minecraft would play on that console with the Gamepad’. It’s really a game that could shine with a proper implementation.
I understand Majong from a purely capitalistic asshole-point of view: They don’t want to put more money into that as it won’t sell good anyways, so better create a cheap port (maybe even a X360 port because that’s even easier) and get some cash back then invest money into creting something that would work as an own game but might never make any profit. While it would be nice if they would’ve gone for the latter, thanks to WiiU’s great sales it’s a wonder that they even ported it at all.
For the few ppl who never played Minedcraft before it might even be quite fun and everyone else might skip it anyways.
As someone who wouldn’t have bought it anyways, I can just say it’s at least nice to see that brand in Nintendo’s portfolio.
“won’t sell well anyway”
I am not sure I agree… if only a 10th of wiiU owners buy it (very plausible) that is 1 million at $30 a clip… not bad numbers at all.
Honestly, the reason I hated console minecraft (I don’t play minecraft anymore anyways) was that everything felt simplified, as if crafting didn’t matter. I loved the idea of learning combinations of items to make another item, instead of moving over and pressing “Action” to get the item. Such a missed opportunity.

I’m betting they will release it in a future update.
If not….wtf!

So the one thing we figured this version would have for sure, it doesn’t.
The irony is strong with this one.
As if Microsoft will let the Nintendo have the superior version on their ip.
(Lol I will lmao when they announce a tablet add on and have this feature on it then send a wii u the update for the feature)
give this guy a round of drinks GETS IT…
THE SAME INDUSTRY THAT STILL DEMANDS WE TWIN ANALOG STICK FPS GAMES IN A WORLD THAT HAS A WII REMOTE
THIS IS EXACTLY WHY THE INDUSTRY IS A COMPLETE FUCKING JOKE THERES ONLY ONE NEXT GEN SYSTEM ITS WII U
A BOX AND A DUALSHOCK WITH A BULB ON IT AINT NO NEXT GEN
WII REMOTE AND TOUCH SCREEN IS PEEERRRFFFFFEEECCCTTT FOR MINCRAFT
SICK AND TIRED OF CASUALS CLAIMING TO BE THE CORE GAMER
AND SICK OF A INDUSTRY STUCK IN PS1 ERA MECHANICS-CONTROLS WHAT A JOKE….
Aye, the inability for most ‘core’ gamers to change their controller habits beyond what the PS1 did has always bemused me.
That’s so true, I wonder/hope that the Wiimote and nunchuck work along with the sensor bar.
You might want to get a doctor. That’s a whole lotta sick!
he’s right about the controller part tho :)
This man likes Wii Remotes.
Lazy 3rd party port confirmed. Amount of people surprised=zero
They probably realize this them selfs and therefore added the following in the announcement: “and updating the core game with free updates”. So inventory management and crafting on the gamepad is likely coming, but at a later date.
It would also be great if they added the Splatoon motion controls for the gamepad.
You’re MUCH too hopeful of Microsoft. This is a port, nothing more nothing less.
Xcx defecates on minecraft anyway
I was up way too late playing XcX last night. Co-workers probably thought I was on drugs with my bloodshot eyes, I told them, “Video game hangover.” ;D
Don’t google XcX.
Ha ha
Who had the idea ” let’s put minecraft on WiiU, which had a GamePad perfect for the inventory system. And let’s not use the GamePad that was destined specifically with this type of feature in mind on the inventory.”
Rest of studio: “Genius man!!”
Ubisoft had the same idea when working on Watch Dogs for Wii U while lying right to our faces that they delayed the Wii U version to make it take full advantage of the Wii U Gamepad’s capabilities when all they did was throw a fucking map on it. *eye twitch but breathes after coming back to senses* Okay. Had a bit of a 2014 flashback there.
Considering how long it’s taken them to get it on the Wii U, it would have been nice to have it take advantage of the Gamepad’s features better. Ah well.. I’m less excited about it now.
You had literally one fucking job.
Better come with an update because that’s part of why people have wanted Minecraft on Wii U. Just alternate screen is super lazy. How could you not include more gamepad features Mojang? So many fans have literally pointed out why they wanted a Wii U version and you don’t have that on day one? Stupid.
dumb, d-dumb, dumb, dumb
So what’s the point of getting the Wii U version then?!
Oh for f**k’s sake, it’s like everyday contemporary game developers feel the need to remind us how unimaginative and-or lazy they are. WHY would this not be the first bloody thing you think of and try to implement when you port Minecraft to Wii U!? It makes so much sense it hurts, yet apparently the makers of one of the most well regarded games of the century either didn’t think of it or couldn’t be bothered to try and put it in. I suppose I should be grateful that they didn’t resort to the petty and inane “blah blah Wii U can’t handle it blah blah” like 99% of other Western developers, but seriously, you’d think anyone that had seen WWHD in action would ALWAYS want to use the gamepad for item management in action/adventure/exploration games.
Don’t forget Assassin’s Creed III also did that with item management & did it before WWHD. A shame AC3 was old & not exactly well liked even among the franchise’s fanbase so it gets ignored for doing it first. It pisses me off that Assassin’s Creed IV completely dropped that useful mechanic of using the Gamepad for item management. :/ But 2014 was the year Ubishit stopped giving a flying fuck about actually doing well on the Wii U so…
Such a stupid decision considering how, despite how they treated Wii U owners during the Rayman Legends debacle, the game still ended up selling more for Wii U than any other platform. Companies really need to figure out that different games have different demographics.
Not to mention some game genres do better on certain systems, too. Most platformers always tend to do best on Nintendo consoles, for example.
Still buying.
Do you already have the game? If not ok. If you do, why waste money on the same game twice, and why support lazy decisions?
I own the same game three times, which is PS3, PS Vita, and PS4. Why? Because Sony offered cross-buy for it. Does that count?
If you paid once for all three no. I’m talking actually buying it three times.
True, if less of us buy it then there’s much less chance they’ll put the effort into adding extra features in an upcoming patch.. Ugh.

I thought the whole point for Minecraft being made for the Wii U would be to utilise its touch-screen? A seriously missed opportunity.

aaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnd i’m not getting this now.
because the *ONE POINT* of wanting this on Wii U – the ONE advantage isn’t even included. Wow, nice fail there
WELL THERE IS THE ALTERNATE of-TV MODE btw I need to read more…………..
If anything, this was planned since they were initially Against porting the game to the system Anyway. So by not putting the MOST OBVIOUS FEATURE (inventory browsing) onto a small screen for quick selection, they could just say “We were right, and just wasted thousands to millions porting it again”.
If Ubisoft with ZombiU & Capcom with RE: Revelations can implement this, there’s no excuse for the lack of.
Wow, way to not utilize a slick piece of technology to make the experience even better. Yet another missed opportunity to do something right for a change.
Annnnnnnnnnnnd fail Majong. Did EA give you advice on cutting out features?
…
…….
………….
Figures…
And here I thought that maybe… just maybe Microsoft wouldn’t just port the game onto the Wii U. Maybe they would make it at least a little bit unique.
Maybe.

I may very well be wrong, but the lack of touch screen inventory is probably just because they’re trying to push the game out in time for the holidays. I fully expect them to implement the feature. Can you really blame them to want to take advantage of the season? This is the first time that I’ve commented here, but I’m just so surprised at the people who are saying that they will no longer buy the game and that the only reason to get this for Wii U is the touchscreen. Are you serious? You’d pay another 30 bucks just for a touch inventory? That’s your sole and most important reason for buying the Wii U version? Not the gameplay or the ability to play it on the television or just the experience of playing on a console–no. The touchscreen. Really? Sure, it was a very obvious thing to implement, but if you’re just buying the game for a touchscreen inventory then you may wanna take a look at your priorities…. If you don’t own the game already, however, and you have a PC, I would highly recommend the PC version–especially with the modding community. If the vanilla game gets stale, there are always mods. A modpack that I really enjoy is the Agrarian Skies II skyblock modpack. As for a console edition, I’ve never tried one. I wonder if I’ll get used to the controls….
Good grief. All I have to say is that this a whole lot of gobbledygook.

Not at the moment, sorry
