1.8 Million Votes Were Cast For Smash Bros Ballot

Super Smash Bros director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed in his Famitsu column that a staggering 1.8 million votes were cast in the Super Smash Bros ballot. As we all know it was the super stylish Bayonetta who came out on top and is being included in the game. She was the character of choice in Europe and came in the top five in the United States.

  1. 1.8 million doesn’t sound like a lot to me at all. Smash has way more fans than that. Obviously not everyone single fan is gonna vote, but still. I can’t say I’m impressed in the least bit.

    1. Assuming that each vote means one person voting for argument’s sake, that’s more people voting for her than actually buying her games. Kind of funny when you think about it.

        1. Whoops, you’re right. I got influenced by the picture.

          That’s a really small number of votes for a game this large. I would think it’d have reached at least double digits in millions.

  2. I still find it hard to believe that Bayo beat out characters like Banjo, Shovel Knight, and King. K. Rool. Oh well though, what ever, I guess Bayo will be the only character I wont be buying.

      1. I picked him up already and holy crap is he strong. I’ve been using him alot and currently ges my only character than can dominate and completly destroy my Little Mac Amiibo lol.

        To put it into perspective, my Little Mac can take a stoke away with only 3 Smash attacks -_- that bish is so OP.

    1. Just to put into perspective here, Bayonetta has a way larger fanbase than Shovel Knight or K Rool, they just arent attention seekers and scream on the internet everytime they vote for her. The only reason those characters seemed to be popular was the fact that most nintendo channels ( who are obviously run by nintendo fanboys) were talking about them as their top pick, that created the illusion that they were popular. Plus, whoever voted for bayonetta voted more than once. I dont feel like correcting any typo so there you go.

      1. That’s not necessarily true. Bayonetta was the most feasible. She may not have actually had the most votes. And I’m sure people who were fans of other characters voted more than once for their character, so that point is irrelevant. And it seems like you are implying that only fanboys wanted K. Rool. If that is what you meant, then you would be mistaken.

      2. That could be it I guess, I know a few people who voted for banjo, Shovel Knight, and K.k.Rool but only voted once. So as I, so that could very well be it.

    1. Noup, it was never part of the deal. Sakurai is probably going to take that info into consideration for the next game (assuming he’s directing again), but nothing more.

  3. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

    How about a list of who all got the most votes out of 10, 50, or even 100? Unless the Smash Ballot was a bunch of bullshit & they never did care for our opinion & would thus have to fabricate a list because they never even bothered to actually tally up the votes.

    1. Of course it was a bunch of bs. Im soooo suuuure Bayonetta was their first pick out of the hundreds of 1st party characters they couldve fakely included… .-.

      1. Now I have been thinking, just thinking, *maybe* Corrin and Bayonetta are NOT the last two DLC fighters coming. Remember when Lucas was announced as DLC and then we also got Roy and Ryu the same day with almost no indication of their arrival (unless you count the leak the day before the official announcement)?

        I’m not betting that’s going to happen again and that there’s a secret third character in the wings, but it’s possible.

        Unlikely… but possible.

      And why would people voting for Ridley be dumb idiots? Wait. Don’t answer that. Probably the bullshit excuse of “He’s too big & shrinking him wouldn’t be true to character.” Yeah because siding with someone that beat him is definitely true to character for Ridley. Let’s not forget that Ganondorf is a big fat fully playable contradiction of “but it won’t be true to their character, blah blah blah.” But by all means, believe Sakurai. It’s not like he’s lied before about why this or that character won’t ever be in Smash but somehow ends up in the franchise anyway.
