To accompany the news that Pokken Tournament will be arriving on the Wii U in North America and Europe on March 18th, Nintendo also released an official website for the game. The website is still early in development, but you may have noticed that there’s a greyed out section which is labeled “My Town” along with “Game Modes” and “amiibo Card.” This specific feature has yet to be announced, so it will be interesting to see what it turns out to be.
Thanks, MasterPikachu6

Looks like there’ll be more than just regular fighting, which is good content wise. I’m still on the fence about getting this though. Fighting games are not my forte.
My Town… Not sure what it could be.
Could be a sort of hub thing like in Pokemon Rumble World. I imagine it’ll involve buying cosmetics for your trainer, taking part in side-challenges, minigames and possibly even upgrading the town and changing it cosmetically as well. Sounds like a little bonus to differentiate it from the arcade versions, it could be stellar, but it could be really simple as well depending on how much it was focused on during the porting process.
Indeed, although I think the arcade machine could just have the same hardware as the Wii U, then there is no porting involved… when they made the game they obviously planned beforehand to bring it to the Wii U as well so why would they use other hardware?
About your view on what “the town” could be… I think your spot on.
