France Console Sales: PlayStation 4 2.15 Million, Wii U 742K, Xbox One 715K

You may have seen hardware sales for Germany which we posted earlier, but now it is time for France. The French have jumped onboard the PlayStation 4 and with regards to console sales it is by far the most dominant platform. What is interesting is that the Wii U has sold more units than Microsoft’s Xbox One console. The Wii U has obviously been out for longer, but it seems as though both France and Germany aren’t too keen on the US centric Xbox console. The best-selling platform so far in France is the Nintendo 3DS.

Being out longer should work against the sales of the Wii U. If anything, the initial sales of the Xbone are more worrisome. Unless it gets some kind of crazy exclusives, I don’t see it making a comeback.

    1. Right… and where does Microsoft go from here? Other than cloning PLaystations, I think Nintendo is primed to make a big splash with the NX and capatalize on the environment which is not as bad as the media (pockets lined with Microsoft money no doubt) would let people believe… a dip yes, but Nintendo is not even third in most places and not as distant when all is said and done

      1. I don’t think Microsoft can go anywhere, honestly. They got out-fucking-played by Sony during the E3 reveal. Between that and the Kinect controversy, the console was dead on arrival. I can see Nintendo taking advantage of the situation and establishing the NX as a second console, at least, but they have to correct a long list of mistakes before they even have a chance at that.

            1. I agree… The one thing, one of their more forward thinking, if not “economic” moves, was the Wii which has been chastized by the gaming community at large despite great success. Kimishima has the business acumen, but at what expense will profits take away from innovation? Hopefully K realizes that what is best for gamers is also the best for the bottom line. That was something missed with the Wii U… even though some better marketing could have went a long way… Anyone know if everyone was fired in that department? They really f’ed up with a cool console in the WiiU

  2. Europe has always been Playstation Centric, here in the Netherlands they did a study( by 6.536 Dutch people) end November 2015 and there was the conclusion that 40% of Dutch people has a Gaming console at home (So approximately 6,8 Million people) of those 6,8 million people 13% has a PS4 (884000) while XBONE and WiiU were at home by 5% by people with a gaming console (340000 each)

The old wii is at home by 60% of the 5236000 people (3141600) while PS3 by 29%(1518440) and the 360 by 21% (1099560)

I know it is maybe not very reliable to conclude gaming preferences of 17 million peope by a study of only 6536 people , but it is a kind of indication tha EU is home to Playstation (Although we already knew it) (After re-calculating I came to the conclusion that the total number is 7323600 instead of the 40% of the Population (6,8 million)
