New Gameplay Updates Enhance Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Wii U

Beautiful high-definition graphics aren’t the only things new in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. When this HD remake launches exclusively for the Wii U console on March 4, it will feature many upgrades that are sure to please fans playing through the adventure again, or newcomers who are experiencing the game for the first time.

A new item in the game called the “Ghost Lantern” has been added. This mysterious item will glow when in the same area as a Poe (a kind of ghost), making the Poe soul-retrieving quest much easier to complete. Hero Mode, a challenging new mode, can also be selected when starting a new game. In this mode, Link will take double the normal damage and there are no heart drops. In addition, if Link finds Rupees in a treasure chest while his wallet is already full, Rupees will no longer be returned to that chest. Players are also less likely to reach the limit of their wallets, as they have been modified to hold more Rupees.

Iconic moments from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, like Link riding Epona across the Eldin Bridge and Wolf Link howling at the moon, look stunning in high definition, but additional upgrades to the game make it playbetter as well. Using the Wii U GamePad controller, players can easily access their map and inventory at all times using the intuitive touch screen, as well as quickly transform into a wolf with one easy tap. Players will also be able to use the GamePad to access Miiverse (Internet access required). Miiverse posts can be decorated with dozens of new Miiverse stamps inspired by the game hidden away throughout Hyrule. Additionally, the game can be played off-TV on the GamePad. Many more updates exist in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, but discovering them as you play through the legendary adventure is part of the fun.

As previously announced, all physical versions of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD will include an intricate Wolf Link amiibo figure. Purchasing The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Wolf Link amiibo bundle will currently be the only way to get this amiibo figure. Using this amiibo will allow players to gain access to the challenging Cave of Shadows. Also, some of the data stored on the Wolf Link amiibo figure can also be used with The Legend of Zelda game for Wii U, which launches this year. More details about this functionality will be revealed in the future. In addition, several amiibo in the Super Smash Bros. series (sold separately), including Link, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf and Toon Link, can also be tapped to the GamePad for various in-game effects.

  1. As much as I’ve always love Twilight Princess, and played it years ago, I just don’t really see appeal. Since many people, including I, claim that the dungeons are too easy, Nintendo should have taken the opportunity to make a master quest version with rearranged dungeon, maybe also make enemies more tactical.

Whatever. It’s obvoius they needed an urgent filler with both the wait for Zelda U, and the lack of Wii U games in general.

    1. I’m actually really looking forward to it. And I don’t think the dungeons are too easy. Hell, I’d say the complete opposite actually, that TP has a couple of the more challenging dungeons in the Zelda franchise. (on first play through, everything is easy when you know what to do). Easily Harder than any dungeons in OoT or Windwaker. In fact the only console Zelda that has dungeons on the same level as TP is MM, and really just two of those.

Yea, I just disagree with you. I believe TP has the best dungeons in the Zelda Franchise. And those Master Quest dungeons in OoT were just dumb. I hated those dungeons and would hate to see them do that to the masterpiece’s that is TP dungeons.

    2. And I’ve never really heard anyone else say the dungeons were too easy. What I hear is most people, including myself, say the bosses are too easy, and the regular enemies are too easy. They just don’t do enough damage. I mean a quarter heart? wtf… But as far as the puzzles go inside the dungeons, your the first I’ve heard someone complain about that.

      1. I respect Twilight Princess so much. It’s a nostalgic game, and has actually been very challenging for me during middle school. One of the many parts I got stuck was having yo save the Zora child, that statue maze, etc. It was a long, epic adventure. Fast forward to a few months ago from today, I’ve decided to play it with the hype for Zelda U. I’ve completed the first dungeon and thought meh, that wasn’t bad. Mixed with many comments of it being an easy game, it convinced me that my difficult times with the game were probably from a younger me. My judgement is probably unfair since my recent gameplay consisted of beating the first dungeon, and I probably got swayed by comments.

Either way, this amiibo stuff and added ease probably hurts the game. You know what Deep, your comment unclouded this recent idea I had of the game, and made me remember all those difficult times. I rarely ever get games now, but you kinda convinced me to consider it, with maybe a Ganondorf amiibo. I’ll see, my life is much busier these days, I don’t understand how many people complain about being bored by game droughts.

    1. Just giving you more solid and informative information basically. Plus I added in the opening sequence to the game on Wii U at the top of the post :-)

  2. “Players are also less likely to reach the limit of their wallets, as they have been modified to hold more Rupees”
Wait, so the max cap for every wallet is more high? That would be so cool!!!
Or they are just talking about the infinite wallet in the new dungeon?

      1. I talk about the points Nintendo obviously need to improve on and many people on the website have said so also and Nintendo needs to cater more to the my kind of crowd that don’t really care about a lot of the extra things they have or do and mainly focus on games which many people have also said you ignorant child and this game could have looked much better

  4. Day one for me. I wanted the digital version but that don’t come with the amiibo. So i gotta get the physical. So i will have to wait 10 days for it to be shipped to my country in Jamaica. Sigh….. sorry i live so far. I love the HD treatment. So now I will probably finally finish this game.

    1. Well look at it this way, at least now you will actually own the game. When you buy digital you do not own the game, your just borrowing it…. even though you paid full price..

In Nintendo’s case, you are simply borrowing it since there isn’t a universal account system that lets you take your digital games with you to another console while still having access to those games on your main console. The PlayStation 4, on the other hand, does allow you to take your digital games to another console. So I actually do own my digital purchases on my PS4 & not simply borrowing them. As long as I sign into my account on PSN, I can take my digital purchases to as many PS4s as I want.

~*Please don’t call me that. @.@ Our digital purchases are tied to our NNID & our NNID is console locked. We can only transfer our NNID to another Wii U through the Wii U to Wii U transfer which resets the source console back to factory settings once everything is sent to the target console. So unless they changed it only recently, I highly doubt that.*~

        1. This was not what I meant, but you make a good point. I would much rather have Ps4 digital than Nintendo with the system in place. The fact that you can use them on any ps4 does add ownership honestly..

      2. how are you borrowing it? once you purchase it it’s yours to keep forever or delete and re-download any time you want. If your physical disc gets all scratched up you can’t really re-download a physical disc. YA FEEL ME?

        1. Well, honestly I’m still on the fence about digital ownership. I had three audiobooks I had bought from iTunes that cost me a total of $200. When I upgraded my IPad to the newest version, my audiobooks were nowhere to be found. I looked everywhere, and even called apple. Guess what, they are gone. Gone forever and I cannot re-download without repurchasing them. For some reason you have to repurchase audiobooks from iTunes.. So technically I never “owned” those audiobooks. I just borrowed them for the low price of $200.

So maybe you can understand why I don’t like digital. You are putting your ownership on the hopes that the software or hardware infastructure stays in place, and nothing goes awry. If you own the physical copies, you put your trust in yourself instead.

“In this mode, Link will take double the normal damage and there are no heart drops.” Well that should make it harder. Damn shame the thing is mirrored, though. :/
