Japan: Miitomo Tops iOS Charts And Beats Line Messaging Service

Nintendo’s first foray into the world of smartphone gaming has gotten off to a good start as Miitomo has climbed from number two to number one on the Japanese App Store. The application has done tremendously well and has beaten popular messaging service Line which had previously held the number one position. It should also be noted that Line is the primary messaging app in Japan and Asia. Whether it can continue this momentum remains to be seen, but no doubt Nintendo will be encouraged by its success.

“We had a good start and have received very positive feedback,” Nintendo spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa said, declining to disclose the number of downloads. “Miitomo will continue to evolve.”

  2. With Line being pretty niche within the western population it’ll be interesting to see how well it does. It’s very much a social based app, and fairly basic at that with it’s predetermined questioning system, so it might not go over stupendously.
