Reviewers in the United States have already gotten their hands on the action packed Star Fox Zero and video footage naturally seems to be doing the rounds on the internet. YouTube streamer AbdallahSmash026 has captured the opening moments of Star Fox Zero and it looks as though it has been shaping up rather nicely after the delay which pushed it back to April this year. Be sure to check out the second screen madness in the video, above.

-||The Empire has done it again, they won me over the first minute in Corneria, it already is harder than the original Corneria||-
-||Once I have resources for it, I’ll get it||-
I’ve thumbed up your vote of approval, Commander. Star Fox Zero is shaping up to be a sleeper hit for the Shig-meister and the director of Bayonetta 2.
-||Indeed, the best part is that there seems to be several unlockable worlds as well going by the result screen or whatever||-
I’m getting it, but I read the story on the website. It’s basically Star Fox 64. So it’s a remake in my eyes. I feel like they should have just said that instead of the runaround they give us about it not being Star Fox 64 all over again when out essentially is. Gameplay is different obviously with new mechanics. But the story is just pure laziness.
-||True I’m still bothered by that, on the plus side, it already is more challenging than the original so it’s still worth it, and like I said, there seems to be more unlockable worlds than the original||-
Absolutely. I think it’s going to be good. Story aside, I’m excited about it.
Honest question… What difference does it make? It’s been nearly 20 years since Star Fox 64. A remake/reboot/reimagining/re-envisioning/re-somethinging was probably the right thing to do. Besides, the story set up could be like 64’s, but the overall story could be very different.
I’ve seen this criticism a lot, but does anyone play Star Fox for the engaging story? I certainly don’t. I mean, it’s basically Nintendo’s take on the schmup, which aren’t exactly known for their stories.
Itmakes a huge difference in my opinion. The game is basically a remake of the N64 game, and I’ve already replayed it on the 3DS. So it offers very little aside from some upgraded graphics and chicken robot arwings. It looks to be a skip in my opinion. Star Fox Command on the DS had me hooked for hours, unlocking all of the different endings and getting to know more about the different characters, and even getting to see James McCloud!
Just because you don’t play games for the story doesn’t mean other people don’t. If this was a remake, they should have just said that. At least be upfront and honest about it. While I still want the game, I feel it would have been better as a new game, not a reimagining of Star Fox 64. You think Metroid fans would want a new entry that was just a reimagining of an older entry, after waiting for so long? Star Fox has had an even longer wait and we get a remake? Come on.
We don’t know where this story will go. Just because the basic components of the older stories are there doesn’t mean it will play out the same way. I’d be shocked if it did. If you want to deprive yourself of a great game because it’s a remake and not a straight sequel, be my guest. I don’t care what you do with your gaming time. I’m psyched to be playing it and I doubt a different story would have done anything to change the core gameplay of Star Fox, which is what i really care about.
You’d be upset if a new Metroid remake came out? I guess that’s on you, too.
I believe Miyamoto has stated before that it’s essentially the same story as Starfox 64, so we know that much regarding the story. The major difference in this game is the controls, combining motion and traditional controls as well as using the gamepad for first person view. Many of us are not interested in motion controls, so that’s not really a plus. First-person on the gamepad is cool, but that’s really the only new feature. And it’s not even that big of a deal, I mean, first-person view? There’s not much to miss out on if you’ve played the original several times through, and then again when it came out on Wii’s Virtual Console, and then again on the 3DS remake. If you want a fun Starfox game that actually offers something different, I suggest you all go out and get Starfox Command. It’s a ton of fun, and I’m sure you can find it for cheap at Gamestop (or GAME, for our brothers and sisters across the pond).
You must not have read my comment where I said I’m still getting the game.
that one might have been targetted at me, because I’m skipping the game. April has Quantum Break on XB1, and Uncharted 4 on PS4. So I don’t really have a choice but to skip Starfox.
Too bad for you.
Ehh, I don’t think I’m missing much. It looks to be more of the same with no real progression of the series.
I thought so too, but I got an email notification about it, so apparently it was for me. Eh. Not the end of the world either way.
-||Uncharted 4 is just like the previous games, just better graphics, how is that a progress?||-
-||And Quantum Break, what a laughable cheap garbage borrowing yet again a real actor’s face to promote their disease||-
Well there’s progression in the story. I’m okay with the same gameplay and continuation of the story. What I’m not so fond of is same gameplay and the same story. The premise of Quantum Break looks interesting, a shooter where you control time and uses a TV show to expand the story. I’m actually not familiar with the actors, the premise of the game looks very interesting and unique. I’m curious, aside from the actors, why do you think its garbage. It’s made by Remedy, who made the fantastic Alan Wake on the 360.
-||I’d buy that any day instead of this current FF virus||-
Yes. But imagine instead of FF, they announced a remake/reboot. FF never exists in this hypothetical. Surely you wouldn’t be as ecstatic as a new entry. That’s my main point.
-||Well a reboot no, not a chance, a remake sure, Metroid Zero Mission was essentially a remake so I would go for that||-
-||A reboot would mean the only thing ever to erase me from existance||-
-||Or would it…||-
RUMOR: POSSIBLE NX LAUNCH TITLE

If the stuff from Other M & the virus of Federation Force continues to exist in the canon, I expect we’ll get a reboot in the next 10 years if they don’t be assholes & outright cancel the franchise altogether.
-||In 10 years I will have utterly destroyed most of the Xbot filth||-
I am looking forward to this but the fact it’s a glorified remake does leave a bitter taste.
Still, if it offers a suitable challenge then it could be something to stick my teeth into, after XCX.

No one in this comment section knows what the word “remake” means, I suppose. Does it have the same story? Yeah, seems so. However, we don’t know how the story plays out entirely, and we KNOW there are more levels and that the entire layout and level design is vastly different.
It’s more of a reboot than anything. Which is exactly what Star Fox needed. 643D was a remake, clearly recreating EXACTLY what the original was. Unless you’re blind, you can see in just the first level this is not a remake. That would be like saying Link Between Worlds was a remake of Link to the Past.
Remake, reboot. Semantics. I think people can decipher what I mean.
They mean two very different things. If everyone keeps calling Zero a remake of 64, it’ll result in a lot of confusion. I’ve already seen a lot of it myself. :/ sigh
I know they have different meanings. But usually people can tell what someone is referring to. At last I hope so anyway.
This is the second article showing the first 30 minutes of the game that has the video removed. Is Nintendo trying to cover their asses with their lie that this wasn’t a reboot? <.< Doesn't matter. Still not buying the game Day 1 regardless. If it's just a reimagining of the original story, there is no rush to get this game any time soon for me. If I want a Star Fox fix, I'll just play Star Fox 64 3D til I get Star Fox Zero after I clear up some of my backlog. Ugh! I need to hurry up & finish Act 1 of Witcher 3 soon as I've been on that Act for 2 months now! @.@
To be fair, they did say from the beginning that it was more of a reimagining of the original story. All things said, it’s the biggest Star Fox game ringing in at 20 levels (at least) with 70 medals (never going to find those…).
I thought Miyamoto said at the last E3, I think it was, that the title was being called Zero because it was essentially a reboot. Does no one remember this or am I just remembering it wrong? Is this like the Berenstein Bears effect all over again?
BerenstAin* Bears
NO
-||I saw the video, they aren’t denying that it is a reboot of some sorts, it is also more challenging than the original Starfox 64 and like I said, when the human male got to the result screen, there were several quadrants with missing names excluding the main worlds present from the start||-
-||It might surely suggest that besides most of the regular worlds found in the original, there might be at least 7-9 more worlds||-
-||The first boss is already harder than any boss in the original||-
-||There also seems to be phases within one world so about 2-3 phases for each world maybe making this game a longer experience compared to the original||-
This is a very important question & could change whether I get this game next month or not. Is main story mode Arcade-y like the original Star Fox 64 or is it more story driven where you can actually go every single location if you choose to? If there is a set path again like in the original, meh.
-||I didn’t get any answer towards either, all I can say is that the game is a very nice reboot||-
For those that haven’t seen, Falco amiibo unlocks a black and red Arwing, which lets you lock on to 2 targets with the basic laser, and from his comments on stream, 3 targets with the upgraded laser. As for damage, Abdallah only said “like 3 times as much damage” so it may be more or less. In addition to that, there’s multiple versions of each level, as shown by Corneria 2 from the stream. Seems like there’s 20 levels total and 70 medals to collect. If you didn’t catch the stream, you’ll just have to take my word for it, as Abdallah has been captured by Nintendo Ninjas :P
when is the game suppose to be coming out?
Can’t wait for this game
