Shovel Knight Has Now Sold 1.2 Million Units

The Yacht Club Games developers have announced that as of April 1, Shovel Knight had sold 1.2 million units across platforms. 200,000 of those were physical copies of the game whilst 1 million were downloaded digitally. To celebrate, the game will be available with a 33% discount on each store at different times.

“Thank you everyone for your unending support. We couldn’t be happier that Shovel Knight is still loved and played years after its release. To celebrate it crossing a million, we’ll be discounting Shovel Knight at 33% off for a week at various times this month on every store it’s released on (Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Sony PS4, Sony PS3, PlayStation Vita, Steam, GOG, Humble Store, and Amazon Fire TV) .”

The information shows that the largest percentage of downloads came from Steam at 32% and the second largest percentage was the Nintendo 3DS at 29%. Here’s a chart showing percentages of units sold divided by the different platforms:

    1. It came out on the WiiU (+3DS) and PC almost a year earlier than it did on the other consoles. I’d guess most of the people who wanted the game but owned a PS4/XB1 instead of a WiiU on the home console front already had the game on PC or 3DS by the time it hit Sony and Microsoft systems.

  1. Imagine that. A 3rd party makes a great game, it isn’t a late and gimped port, and it sells best on Wii U compared to other consoles. Hmmm. I’ve still got mine in plastic waiting for all DLC to come out before playing all at once. But I rewarded them with a day one full price purchase.
