Monster Games Working On A New Racing Game?

Monster Games, the development studio behind a number of Nintendo titles including Pilotwings Resort and Donkey Country Returns 3D, appear to be working on a new racing game. Software engineer Joshua Ruis updated his Linkedin profile to mention that one of the tasks he’s been doing on the unannounced game that he’s currently working on includes “Build out the Career and Championship modes UI” Rumours were swirling last year that Nintendo were planning on releasing a Diddy Kong Racing title. I guess this is a project that’s been ported to the NX which means we should hear about it at E3. The reference on his Linkedin page has since been removed.

    -||Hopefully it’s a real game and not a boring simulator a.k.a Forza and Project C.A.R.S to name a few||-

  2. Adding fuel to the fire, Retro might be lending a hand on that. Monster Games ported DKCR to the 3DS, and Retro made the DK track on Mario Kart 7. We know by now Retro can handle at least one major project while helping in others.

    On the other hand, I don’t see how the words “carreer” and “championship” point to a racing game necessarily. I know we’re talking about Monster Games here, but it might be any kind of sports game. Punch-Out comes to mind, but that’s probably still assigned to Next-Level Games.

  3. Diddy Kong Racing was so fun. The racing and battle mode was excellent. I could imagine the same level of detail and creative coarse design but made even bigger and better for WiiU/NX! It would be glorious!

    GLORIOUS!

  4. One of my predictions going into E3 has been a Monster-developed Wave Race, meant to act as a launch online multiplayer showcase. Well, it would seem at least m the Monster working on a racing game part of that is true.

  5. What we want: the original Diddy Kong Racing made longer & in 3D with an even bigger hub world!

    What we could end up with instead because Nintendo doesn’t want another racing game to outshine Mario Kart 8: Diddy Kong Racing with the Hub world removed & made into a lamer cousin of Mario Kart. :/

    1. You know they can’t do that. The original DKR had Banjo and Conker as racers, and both of them are owned by Microsoft. That is why they were replaced by Dixie Kong and Tiny Kong for the DS remake, which wasn’t nearly as good as the N64 original.

      *thinks about the balloon popping minigame that replaced the silver coin challenges and shudders*

      If Banjo and Conker are gonna come back for a DKR HD remake (hopefully with new content on top of it), that’s gonna require some serious negotiations with M$. Still, we got Minecraft on Wii U after so long, maybe it’s not as impossible as I think.

      1. I was never thinking of those guys when I said that. I know they won’t return but that wasn’t my point when I said the original DKR. I was referring to the very thing I said they would probably remove from the new game: the hub world.
