VGChartz: ZombiU Has Sold 1 Million Units

Unofficial data source VGChartz is reporting that Ubisoft’s well received Wii U launch title ZombiU has now sold a million units worldwide. I believe that this is the first third-party Wii U title to achieve such numbers so congratulations to the team over at Ubisoft.

  1. VGChartz make their numbers up.

It could have sold 2 million, it could have sold half a million. There is no official number.

    1. That is an exaggeration. They don’t “make their numbers up”. They estimate using very limited data. I would say they can be wrong by +-20%, but it’s a good indication of roughly the magnitude of sales. Oh, doesn’t include digital either.

      1. Not at all.

As someone who tracks Industry sales data I’m fully aware of how accurate VGChartz are.

For historical titles they have a good archive, for real time tracking they can be off as much as 100% in some cases or as close as 10% off in other cases.

That’s not reliable at all. They don’t have access to actual POS data either.

        1. Yes, very dark palette, especially on CRT TV (which I use), I always need to brtighten it all up, especially in multiplayer, otherwise I bump into things and cannot see a thing most of the times.

    1. The critics mostly gave positive reviews. The negative ones are textbook examples of anti-Nintendo bias. For instance GameSpot gave 45/100 for WiiU version, yet for the Ps4 version, which, bear in mind, has no multiplayer, no online features and no gamepad functionalities, very same Gamespot gave 70/100. Go figure.

      1. When you put GameSpot and review in the same sentence, you should also put in shit, baisess, and idiots in it too. Giant bomb are where I get my review.

      2. Yeah, I wonder what the difference could be between the two – oh y helo thar, gamepad.
The gamepad wasn’t a plus to the console, it was a detraction that at its best was a glorified map and inventory and at worst, a hindrance that at times was even too useless to even include in games.

      1. Most people who say so are usually the ones who expected this game to be typical mindless zombie shooter with massive ammounts of weapon ammo on disposal and hand-holding checkpoints on every corner for extra safety. To me this game is a prime example of zombie genre done right on every aspect imaginable, that is if you are a fan od Romero’s depiction of zombie apocalypse. The music, sounds, voice acting, atmosphere, graphics, attention given to textures in details, fantastic art direction, earie feeling of loneliness, dark humour, social commentary, sinister background twist in the story, everything is there, all rounded up with unprecedented gameplay mechanics of the WiiU gamepad functionality which gives extra sense of tension. Fantastic game. Also I cannot have enough of multiplayer, too bad it is only local, if it was done online, it would be beyond amazing.

        1. I hated the multiplayer in this game. The main game was pretty good for the most part. But the multiplayer was just terrible. Whoever has to kill the zombies had such an advantage. It’s hardly even multiplayer. One person gets to actually play, and the other has to just sit there and pick zombies on the gamepad, and then they go and attack. That is not fun. And the zombies suck. If you’re a good shot, the zombie player doesn’t stand a chance. I traded on and off with my ex’s brother back then, and whoever was fighting the zombies always won.

          1. It sounds to me that whoever played on the Gamepad actually didn’t play very well (sucked at playing it). Cause let me tell you, if you know what you are doing and use all the level-up perks, different types of zombies and well thought of strategy of exactly where and where you place specific types of zombies (and the very specific ammount of each type), the ratio between the survivor (player on the TV) and zombie king (player on the Gamepad) is extremely tie. Extremely. We have so far played countless ammounts of matches, still do to this day (very addictive game), and my oponent basically brought the King of zombies playstyle to perfection. Very very hard to win as a survivor. Extremely hard.

Of course I am talking about the Assault mode, the only mode we play. It is the ‘capture flag’ mode. The other mode where you simply survive for as long as you can is not so interesting to me because it is linear. But this mode has lots of layers of how to strategise.

Basically the tie ratio is mathematically correct in such ammount that if you make only a few micro-missteps in placing your moves as a king, or miss out on exact disruption routines as a survivor, by the end of the 2nd third of the match you are pretty much done for. You can try to take advantage depending of the map layout, but it is almost as chess, you are done for in advance.

All in all sounds to me like perhaps you didn’t give the game enough chance to start with. People who actually immersed themselves into multiplayer know exactly what I am talking about.

            1. Sounds like you’re making a lot of assumptions and being quite arrogant. I haven’t played the game since like 2013. The multiplayer was only two player. And lame. As I said, sitting there and clicking on zombies to go do stuff is not fun. I said I liked the main game. So how does that give you the impression I didn’t give the game enough of a chance? Assumptions. You know what they’re good for.

              1. Sorry for coming off arrogant. My assumption was only one, and I think my argumentation backing it up was proper. I don’t want to overdo it.

  2. I honestly liked this game. Kids nowadays just want to pick a machine gun up with 9999999999 bullets and destroy everything in their way.
This is a hard game with its own atmosphere and i know the graphics were kinda shitty but i had a lot of fun.

  3. This game imo is one of the best survival horror games ever made, admittedly it’s not for everyone..but survival horror never has been.. I’ve seen so many people play it badly as well, it feels like a lot of people just were’nt willing to learn how to play, I say this as someone who died so many times but can now complete it in 1 life mode(Which is one of the most stressful experiences in a game and should be more common for horror games).

It’s a game you have to adapt to and learn, for example the cricket bat is clunky yeah(it needs to be to imitate a hard hitting swing AND to make you not be insanely op) but if you use it correctly it can be very powerful.

It does frustrate me how everyone keeps calling for a return to survival horror and when we are given it, everybody complains, though I think a lot of that is to do with bad reviews from terrible critics.
Funny how games like dark souls are praised for their difficulty while alien isolation and this have been criticized.

  4. i bought the game on ebay about 6 mos ago for $10 w/free s/h, this was one of my need to get games for wii u, the other was watch underscore dogs (paid $15), ac 4 ($15) and darksiders 2 ($30 though i should have waited til it got its first sale on the eshop or waited for a cheaper one for $20), keep in mind that they except for zombi u were factory sealed brand new
