Two Super Mario Maker Costumes Have Been Data Mined

NWPlayer123, with help from smb123w64gb, has been data mining Super Mario Maker. After doing so, two Mystery Mushroom costumes were found hidden in the game’s files. They are none other than the Squid Sisters from Splatoon, Callie and Marie. The video below shows them in action. Not only are they already in the game, but so are their animations and sound effects. It seems Nintendo is preparing to make them available in Super Mario Maker when their amiibo figures release in July.

  1. Hopefully, NEVER. She does not need to contaminate Mario’s game. Not after SHE STOLE WHAT RIGHTFULLY BELONGS TO BANJO & KAZOOIE!
She’s contaminated SSB4, she will NOT contaminate Mario’s game!

    1. Bayonetta is awesome. And she stole what rightfully belongs to Banjo & Kazooie? What? A spot in Smash Bros? As long as Microsoft has Banjo & Kazooie & isn’t putting that IP on Nintendo consoles, those characters need to stay as far away from Smash Bros as possible. Bayonetta deserves her spot in Smash since Nintendo deserted Bayonetta 2 as soon as it hit the Wii U when they dropped marketing a week or two after it’s release.

      1. Smash got Ryu and Cloud, the former of which is on a PS4 exclusive for his latest game, and the latter of which has never even appeared on a Nintendo console. Banjo deserves a spot far more than either of those 2 characters.

        1. Except I’m pretty sure (and I have never played these games) Cloud was in FF Tactics-something and FF Theater-something, both of which WERE on Nintendo systems. Were they FFVII? No. Was Cloud in them? Yes.

I believe that argument is invalidated (I don’t know the exact titles of those games but I remember this point of contention from awhile back. Not a FF fan.).

          1. Even so, his appearance on Nintendo consoles have been relegated to spin-off titles. Cloud is more of a Sony character than it is a Nintendo one. Banjo Kazooie on the other hand, has had 2 games on the N64, 2 handheld games, and was in Diddy Kong Racing. Rare was responsible for the best games on the N64 and SNES, the addition of Banjo would have been a nice way of saying thank you for those amazing games.

            1. It’s not about whether he deserves to be in Smash (he definitely does so don’t get my comments wrong) but whether Microsoft will allow it. They own Rare & it’s IPs because Nintendo foolishly let their shares of the developer go when they should have bought the ones Microsoft owned. Or they should have shared them with Microsoft by keeping a firm grip on their shares if Microsoft wasn’t willing to sell theirs.

            2. We’re not denying that Banjo deserved the spot. But saying he deserved it more than two equally deserving characters is just plain denial. Microsoft and Nintendo currently have an…. Interesting to say at least relationship and trying to shoehorn Banjo NOW at of all times may be Snake all over again. Wait til everything cools down and maybe next Smash.

      2. To be fair, Banjo-Kazooie would be great for Smash. Have you played the first BK or Tooie? Their moveset potential is massive just from those games.

And after Microsoft published Minecraft- an IP they now own- on Wii U, I dare say it isn’t impossible for BK to come to Nintendo consoles now.

I’m still kinda shocked by MC Wii U Edition- I never thought I’d see Microsoft put out a Wii U game or vice versa. Ever.

        1. I know since I’ve played the first game. (Never could get into the sequel since I hadn’t even beaten the original.)

Minecraft is the exception, sadly. They already had their game on other consoles so Microsoft didn’t see any harm in it going to one more system. (Hell! They probably weren’t expecting it to even sell on Wii U!) Unless Microsoft is dropping out of the home console market next gen & taking the games they own full rights to 3rd party, I honestly don’t see them sharing Rare IPs any time soon.

      1. That wasn’t even a steal, really- he was added because of bias.

Corrin is a fine Smash fighter, but his addition really should have waited until Smash 5, when his game would have been out for years at that point. I know part of his inclusion was to promote Fates, but let’s face it- Fates didn’t really need that kind of promotion after Awakening made FE popular and Fates was already on peoples’ radar.

        1. Replace “bias” with “being in the right place at the right time” literally dumb luck because even Sakurai said it was pure strategic in one of his recent famitsu articles.

If Sakurai was sure that he was going to do an Smash 5 then yeah you would’ve had a point. Nintendo always goes to Sakurai for more Smash games. Now since he’s on vacation he has time to think it through and decide the future of Smash. Not you, not me, not Nintendo. Sakurai. Since y’know? It’s his own series and he’s an major part of the company? After all he’s an major cause of systems selling because of Smash alone. Additionally, it’s an love letter to Nintendo in general. Why wouldn’t they respect the series and the creator?

This is a quote that Source Gaming translated about Corrin’s inclusion:

“After internal analysis, we decided that if we’re going to make DLC, we would choose a character from a soon-to-be-released new game. After consulting many times with Nintendo and looking at the upcoming release schedule,Fire Emblem Fates was in just the right spot. It’s already been released in Japan, but is yet to be released overseas, making it a prime candidate in terms of timing. I personally felt that having too many Fire Emblem characters was a problem, but after talking it over with the development staff and discussing logistics, I felt certain that I could make them a fun character..”

There’s really no excuse. If anyone above Fire Emblem who’s an major IP btw had a new game that was in an similar position to Fates’ they would’ve got it.

The problem with Zelda is that they have way too much one-offs and they treat each one-off equally unlike FE’s one-offs who can all be thrown out the way in favor for the lords and certain lords respectably. So much in fact that picking one from the bunch would be blatantly picking favorites and causing a lot of controversy. Even Shiek and Toon Link are pure one-offs. They got lucky because Ocarina of Time in Melee. Wind Waker and Wind Waker HD coming in clutch for Toon Link saving him from inevitably getting cut like Young Link.

Donkey Kong has been way too consistent with their characters, Even dropping a character or more like K Rool. That’s like keeping only Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser throughout all of his hundreds of games and dropping Bowser. Unfortunately for K Rool he fell straight out of relevancy and is only remembered by diehard fans. Like Isaac. Rest in peace.
