Shadow Has A Filthy Mouth In Mario & Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympic Games

It would appear as though Shadow has a foul mouth in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. If his shot is blocked by the goal keeper the naughty rebellious hedgehog appears to say the word “c***”. The story was first picked up by the Mirror after a concerned parent said that his daughter had taken to saying the word around the house after Shadow’s reaction to a save. Eurogamer decided to check whether this was true and it certainly seems to be the case.

  1. Well that needs to be patched out ASAP considering this is very much marketed as a kid-friendly family game.

That said anyone who played Shadow The Hedgehog on GCN knows that Shadow has a very filthy mouth lol. I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve heard him say: “Damn..!” as someone I knew played it and died, or got to a cutscene where he said it, or anywhere else in the game lol.

  2. Get it before Nintendo takes it away! Despite the fact that its yet ANOTHER Mario & Sonic Olympics game, being only 2 years apart from the last game, featuring the same unchanged roster (since the 2010 Winter games), and the guest characters are only playable in certain events each.

At this point, I’m ready for an ACTUAL Mario and Sonic crossover game, without the freakin olympics Wiimote complicated gameplay crap. An actual story, a 3D platforming adventure through both worlds.

Hell, I haven’t even played M&S Sochi Olympic Games since 2014 on day 1 for less than 2 hours, much less gotten this title yet. 2 years is not enough time to do the same crap over and over, with no objective and nothing new, other than certain events. You know how Skylanders and Just Dance come out every 1-2 years, well this game now falls in that catergory of shovelware. If I wasn’t such a Sonic fan, I’d be even less interested than I am now.

    1. I’m still waiting for the Isis edition where terrorists get involved with the Sonic crew and tried to blow up the competition.

(By that? I mean the Mario gang! XD)

      1. Did you not read my comment? I went in expecting to hear one word, and I heard a completely different word. And for that matter, did you not read the story? The story says that a man’s daughter started using that word around the house after playing this game. Are you suggesting that the girl went into the game expecting profanity?

    1. This wouldn’t be the first time someone blew something out of proportion. Remember that one support conversation they changed in Fire Emblem if because some idiot and his/her followers thought it was trying to convert someone to be gay?

      1. The Soliel support? I remembered that shit well and it reminds me of why Dumblr shouldn’t over analyze the simplest details. Thus why we get the more weirder support where she thinks of Corrin as a girl after being blindfolded.

        1. That’s part of how they changed it? :/ I don’t think I want to know any more of how they changed it. Sounds like they turned the girl into an utter idiot.

          1. Yeah, Fates is easily one of the worst Nintendo localizations in a while. As if the bad selection of voice actors and other supports (Beruka and Saizo can be best described as “…..” over and over again) weren’t any indication. XD

            1. Ellie is flanderized into a gym junkie, they snuck a damn “that’s dragon/dinosaur for I love you” meme with Kanna, made Izana too totally radical for comfort, took away the only likable qualities about Tharja 2.0, Male Kanna get the short end of the stick with his S support, toned down the “Liking a guy would be weird because I’m guy” for the oversensitive pussies out there, made Hoshido more hostile for the hell of it, Peri became “the new Henry”, thought Jakob was too much of an asshole in the Japanese version, Niles’ more naughtier lines (like the ram “it” down there gag) got toned down, cut bikinis for God knows what, and lastly thought face rubbing is too much for Western eyes.

And this is only a fraction of all the changes that happened. I doubt anything will come close to this level of mediocrity from Nintendo localization other than Fates.

                1. Still didn’t explain the Kanna meme reference, the laziness of the Saizo and Beruka confession, and making Hisame into a pickle nut.

I’m all for localization to make characters for relatable to a Western audience, but some of these were just plain handled badly. I ca’;t name a single fan that remotely likes new characterizations Rhajat and Male Kanna received.

              1. Crickey, you made sure to tear the Treehouse a new one didn’t you?

I agree that most of these changes were done for the worst. Like what was the point of making Male Kanna get rejected in his confessions or taking away the only likable things about Rhajat? That’s why they are the most disliked of the children in the Western fandom. Some of the personality changes were definitely a bit out of character, especially making Izana more of a dudebro in the world of Fire Emblem. I can understand Jakob and Niles, but this one always bothered me.

When you are in a POC country like America, most gaming companies are forced to remove things that are deemed offensive (hence the Niles confession and anything involving Poison in Street Fighter x Tekken). I can only expect things to be worse for the localization of Fire Emblem 15 if they are going to build off the same features and push the boundaries beyond the B rating like Fates.

                1. That’s what happens when you let close minded religious nutters control how things work in a country. Least television is slowly becoming more open minded & accepting of things in America. It might take some time but video games will move past this bullshit censoring, too, as this shit happening becomes a distant memory.

    1. I agree. I definitely hear an “s” sound in there each time as well. I have not idea what he’s saying, but certain it’s not what is being implied. Still, if people think it sounds like that then I would advocate for a patch to change the sound file to something else.

    2. The story says a man complained that his daughter started saying that word around the house after playing this game. Eurogamer only looked into it after the story was reported by Mirror.

  3. So no one bats an eye at Shadow the Hedgehog (the video game) and people are flipping their shit over this?

It’s the Disney subliminal message outcry all over again.

      1. Exactly. Some just simply overreacted over the most minute details like the supposed “erection” the clergyman in Little Mermaid had or how Lion King’s dust particle message was meant to spell “SFX”. Most people were either dirty minded or illiterate when they though it spelled “SEX”.

          1. I’m not the only one that hears that word, a lot of people do, just read some of the other comments. Though I highly doubt that’s what they’re going for, you’re probably right, it’s probably “kuh!”

  4. How does no one here realize that he’s going, “Tuh.” It’s a grunt of annoyance, nothing more. Because people went in expecting profanity, they heard profanity. I didn’t expect any, and I was right, no profanity. Just a grunt. Sheesh people, it’s like you’re actively looking for something to call bad.

  5. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

    ||Yes, see how one insignificant little word confuses and outrages you primitive apes regardless of side…||

    ||You were made to be ruled by one word…||

  6. “the naughty rebellious hedgehog appears to say the word “c***”.”

That could easily refer to like 3 different words

  7. To me, it sounds like…I dont even remember what game it was….when he says “here it comes!” And it could very possibly be simply that! I mean, the voice clip I mentioned is quiet toward the beginning. Also, might I add, what a lovely damn fourth chaos emerald you have(apparently forgotten)?
