GoldenEye Source has been in the making for ten years and today, three years after its original release, it has received a substantial update. The free download features 25 recreated maps, 10 different multiplayer modes and 28 deadly weapons. The current version is multiplayer only as the team don’t have the time or the resources to recreate the single player levels. You can download GoldenEye Source for your PC, right here.
GoldenEye 64 Multiplayer-Only HD Remake Released By Fans

Wow, I didn’t even know this was a thing. I recall someone talking about remaking/porting GoldenEye to the VC recently, saying that it’s a nightmare to get the rights for such a thing, since there’s lots of parties involved. Not a problem for the fans, though.
Had Nintendo still owned the rights to this, it would have been Ceaseanddesisted quicker than AM2R
They do have some rights over the original, if I recall correctly. Not sure why since it was made by Rare, but it was one of the reasons why the remake was a Wii exclusive originally.
Sooo… C&D?
||No, High Command doesn’t concern themselves with non Nintendo weaponry…||
Nintendo published the original game. Xbox Live Arcade and Virtual Console versions were planned or at least discussed, but the rights to the game were split too many ways between Nintendo, Rare/Microsoft, and Activision (who held the James Bond dev license at the time) and presumably they couldn’t reach an agreement that satisfied everyone.
Publishing rights, that was it. Thanks for the reminder.
I will never understand why people love this game so much? I played it back in the day (rented it), and totally hated it. And I made fun of it ever since. Yet, every time people are naming their favorite N64 games, this is always on their list. (- _ -)
But in fairness……I’m a first-person shooter HATER. Nobody could ever make me like this genre of games.
||Then your question is invalid…||
Why does everybody like Super Mario 64 ?
Answering this question will give you the answer why people love this game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The best part of this game was the multiplayer and you only like single player games so…

Since Activision owns the publishing rights, I think the only ones that can actually send these guys a C&D order would be them.
