EA Says A Return To Nintendo Isn’t Out Of The Question

EA is renowned for its lack of support for the Wii U but will things be any different with the forthcoming Nintendo NX platform? Game Informer caught up with EA’s Patrick Soderlund to ask him. Soderlund says that support isn’t out of the question as long as the company sees an “addressable market” for it.

“Nintendo is such an instrumental part of our whole industry,” he shared. “They deserve to be successful, and they deserve to be a major player in the business, given their pedigree. It’s not only the machines that they’ve built, but also the IPs they’ve brought to market. There are very few companies like Nintendo. Whenever they bring something to market that we see an addressable market for, we’ll be there. Given that they haven’t announced [a new console] officially or shown it, I can’t comment specifically.”

    1. No. They just didn’t directly say yes.

“We’ll be there” is a nice choice of words. What I read is “We’ll show what we’re doing on NX when Nintendo officially reveals it”

Those who refuse complete and total allegiance with the Empire are fools. The Empires’ quality of assurance will swear off all fools who bring unfinished, and unpolished weapons to the field,

I am a military class bounty android. Built from the scraps of every creature I’ve slain. My alloy infused with the ashes of my enemies. I take orders from my superior.
No negotiation, No compromise, and No mercy.

We play bingo on Fridays though.

          1. Maybe in name length, but not rank. Sorry.

If this were a naval society, all you’d have to claim is that you’re the fleet admiral and BAM, you have highest rank. Not sure about any other branches.

            1. Technically, you’re right and wrong, it all depends on what time line you’ve branched out from. Eventually, if (or when?) certain timelines converge, BOOM! CHAOS! And then, titles will mean absolutely nothing… ;)

You acknowledged me 2 years late. I’ve been self proclaimed since 2014 as a soldier of Nintendo’s space division.

  2. Don’t demand NX be an Origin Box, like you tried with Wii U, and you just might. Seriously, EA was out of line when it came to how much say they wanted in the Wii U. It sounds like they thought they’d be running Nintendo’s entire North American operation. They didn’t get that, so they pushed out bad ports and moved over to Xbox One (which shared their sensibilities at the time).

  3. Regardless of many ppls personal feeling towards EA, they are a huge developer and it’s better to have them than not at all. Metaphorically speaking, not having EA is like missing one of your important organs. EA is a content creator and content gives variety and reaches a larger demographic of people. Variety is key and if a product doesn’t provide it, ppl will go elsewhere.
Ask yourself these questions. Do you think Nintendo is better off without EA, Ubisoft, Square Enix, Activision, Team Ninja, Bandai Namco, Capcom and hundreds of other Developers?

Of course not! You would have to be AN IDIOT to think that. A developer is essential for any video game system success. And EA will play an important role in continuing that success. Any developer as big as EA is important. That’s my 2 cents.

    1. Yeah, if that vital organ is the appendix.

EA brought their withdrawal from the Wii U on themselves; the best example I can think of was when they put ME3 on Wii U for 60 bucks, at the same time putting ME Trilogy out on other consoles for the same price, then complained when no one bought ME3 Wii U. So they really shot themselves in the foot and then said the gun was fired by someone else.

One does not simply ignore that.
