Sonic Racing Transformed Developers Open To Another Sequel

While there was no Mario Kart game at the Wii U’s launch, another kart racer managed to fill that void. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed released alongside the Wii U in 2012 and was fairly well received. Now its developers say they are ready to get behind the wheel again. In an interview with Edge Magazine, design director Gareth Wilson claimed that their team were open to developing a third entry to the series. Interestingly, the developers also joked about some kind of fighting game using the Sega characters. Is this something you’d like to see? Tell us in the comments.

“We could definitely do another one. For this one we’d just got into our stride in the last couple of months of production. We really knew exactly what the game was; we’d got all the tracks and all the tools.”

“If we ever do another one, we should have a fighting game where the characters are inside mechs of themselves, so you’ve got Sonic pulling Eggman’s arm off and beating him to death with it.”

  1. YES PLEASE. I definitely loved SASRT, so much faster and smoother than Mario Kart. And no, 200cc doesn’t count, the tracks aren’t designed for it. You gotta keep braking.

  2. To be more specific, I really love the general speed and drifting in SASRT, making Mario Kart feel stiff in comparison. Not to mention that the vehicle transformations are much better than the “anti-gravity” that does almost nothing.

  3. Just make sure the game wouldn’t be plagued by glitches, make it a liiiiiiiiittle less about drifting, then it’ll already be amazing.

  4. Just make Sakura, Ristar, Aika, Vector, and Billy Hatcer racers damn it! It was bad enough that Sakura was left out because Vyse already had the steampunk theme covered and both universes are still aestethically fucking different.

  6. Definitely a superior racing game franchise to Mario kart, both in modes and mechanics. A Sega smash bros fighting game is already a thing. Ever heard of Fighters megamix, it’s on sega saturn.

    1. Yeah, but now it can get a sequel that will have attention if it’s anything like Smash. Plus with today’s game sizes, more characters.

The Sonic series can have Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Eggman, Amy, Shadow, Silver, and Rouge, Space Channel 5 gets Ulala, Monkey Ball gets AiAi and GonGon, Billy Hatcher gets Billy and Dark Raven, then throw in Shenmue, Alex Kidd, Vectorman, a few more, and wham, there you go.

  7. I’m just saying, if this game was a Nintendo NX release title, I’d buy it. Hell I’ve loved all the sonic racing games thus far. The second one had some major frame rate issues, but other than that it was fun!
