Rumour: Nintendo NX To Feature A Split D-Pad And Share Button

Lets Play Video Games are at it again and claim to have heard more information regarding Nintendo’s upcoming NX platform. The site initially reported that the system will feature advanced vibration force feedback and motion controls in its detachable controllers. Now the site says that the Nintendo NX will feature a split D-Pad like the one on the PlayStation 4 controller as well as a Share Button. The Share Button will allow users to share images and video directly to Miiverse, Twitter, Facebook or YouTube. Those of you with a PlayStation 4 or an Xbox One will be familiar with this.

  1. I pray to God this is true but it sounds it’s too good to be true. I mean a new 3D hybrid Mario title, Zelda BOTW hybrid, Smash Bros Definitive Hybrid Edition, and an all new Hybrid Metroid title with those kind of hybrid controllers……Nintendo gotta show and prove this news because I would be mad as fuck if I get my hopes up and believe this and then be disappointed……..smh

    1. Lulzy……..you are a sorry sad sack of shit but then again I can’t blame you for devoting your time to me I mean your garbage dogshit ass game is about to sell 2 copies (you and a family member may buy it) and no guy in their right mind wants to date you but please continue you no life having Snaggle Puss talking bitch

        1. He’s one of BLACKB0ND’s ” mules ” on YouTube. He was called TheLulzyArtist but now changed it to Entropic Void. He’s been wanting me to debate him on Skype because I pushed his buttons so many times so that’s why he’s been creating sock accounts pretending to be me and he’s a pathological liar and fabricator. Spreading lies and shit saying I’m Mexican and he’s racist towards those people too. He’s a lowlife heartless asshole…..not to mention a garbage indie game creator. The guy even made fun of Iwata being dead……..he’s all fucked up and totally unreachable bro

  2. That would make sense if the controllers pop off that they would be more symmetrical and fair for two players. Nothing’s probably final yet so if it were true it may change before launch like how the Wii U GamePad originally had circle pads in lieu of analogs.

    1. I assume it’s just for one player ONLY. There’s a very strong possibility that the NX may soon enter both Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.

  3. I’m at the point of feeling like people are just making up rumors just to have something to talk about. But it’s sure going to be interesting when Nintendo FINALLY reveals the NX, and we get to see what rumors were true, and which ones were bogus. Problem is, I won’t remember who told which rumor. There’s been TOO FREAKING MANY!

    1. I can’t find it now but a guy on reddit had listed all the rumors from 3ds, Wii u, Wii, ds, and I think gamecube. Some of the rumors were close but none was exactly right.

  4. Some people don’t know, but Nintendo patented the “cross” d-pad and all their consoles have this design (you can check). I guess they wouldn’t change that now. There’s no need either.

  5. I don’t believe this for a second. The D-pad is one of the few things I think Nintendo controllers do better than PS. They’ve been using the same basic patented design since the NES. Why change it? The share button wouldn’t be a bad idea. For me personally it’s nothing more than an unnecessary novelty, but it would be nice to post to miiverse without skipping a beat.

  6. The advantage of a normal d-pad is that it’s easy to press up-right, for example. Also, Nintendo consoles have a home button. There’s no fucking need for a share button, simply press home > share! Obvious bullshit is obvious!

  7. The + Shape D Pad was exclusevely patented by Nintendo (on consoles) for Years, and was popularly considered the best. It was a big deal (to some) when companies like Microsoft were allowed to start using iton consoles after the patent expired.

By comparison, only a small minority of gamers (though even 1% of gamers is still hundreds of thousands of people) actually prefered the Playstation style split buttons.

This is either a bad rumor, or Nintendo is actively TRYING to make their loyal fans hate them.

Considering how lukewarmly the video channel for Mariokart 8 was recieved, putting a dedicated “Share” button on the device/controller seems an odd move as well. Miiverse would require an extensive overhaul to be MUCH faster and less intrusive to access, integrate video playback, as well as much more social friendly (don’t forbid the sharing of so much normal information required to set up gaming sessions and make gaming friends) if they want users to interact with it so regularly s to have it’s own physical button.

On a side tangent, something that occurred to me recently that no one seems to be talking about:

With the trend leaning towards both games and hardware becoming continually supported and gradually upgraded platforms, and the NX 99.9% likely to be a Home/Portable hybrid platform of some kind (with every more specific rumor less certain), it strikes me as worth mentioning that the very FIRST version of the NX hardware to hit the market is pretty much guaranteed to NOT be the last or only version. PS4, PS4 Slim, PS4-NEO … XBO, XBOS, XBO-Scorpio … DS, DS-Lite, DSi, DSiXL – 3DS, 3DSXL, 2DS, N3DS, N3DSXL … WiiU didn’t get a slim, but I think it’s safe to consider the NX to be a core architecture and evolving OS in Nintendos eyes, rather than just a single device. Something to be built upon from here foreward.

Whatever the G1 NX hardware looks like physically, It seems almost certain it will get MULTIPLE variants down the road. Bigger and more Ergonomic with Max Batteey Life … Smaller, Sleeker and more Trendy and Pocket Friendly … and maybe even discount versions that skip portability alltogether and are just Apple-TV/Roku/PS-TV sized boxes plugged into your TV and are played with “Standard” 1st or 3rd party controllers of ones choosing.
… all of which are built around the Same NX core, and so play the same games, whether it’s the glossy iphone sized NX-Pocket … the Beefy, Premium, 8-10 hour Battery, 7″ screen NX-Pro … or the Discount, base level, NX-Home [*completely making this up].

In summary, I supect (pure speculation, based on market trends) that if you don’t like the first version of the NX … just wait. In only 3 years, it will quickly become the “NX Family” of platforms, so you will have Multiple other options to chose from. They might even announce at least one of the upcoming variants right away. … maybe …

    … just a thought.

  9. I’m fine with the Share button. As for the D-Pad, if they want to change it after 30 years, fuck it. They changed Metroid with FedshitForce. They changed Paper Mario with Sticker Star & Color Splash. They changed Mario Party with Mario Party 9, 10, & “Star whatever” for 3DS. They changed Star Fox. They changed Fire Emblem. They changed Zelda (this is the only good change, though.) Let’s butcher everything else! If the rumor about the split D-Pad is true, though…

      1. Actually, no. Outside of Japan, they are censoring it for stupid reasons just so it can be more friendly for non-teenagers to enjoy even though the game is rated T for Teen which allows them to get away with mild harsh language, mild/brief nudity, sexually suggestive talk. If Project X Zone 2, another T for Teen game, can get away with a lot of sexual innuendo, Fire Emblem should be allowed the same luxuries. But leave it to the retarded monkey’s at NoA throwing their own shit at each other to fuck something up in the name of “localization.”

      2. I won’t get into the “waifu” stuff because I see that as a natural evolution of the franchise since support conversations were an important part in Fire Emblem games. It only makes sense they’d take it to the next step & allow your avatar and other characters to hook up & have kids together.

  10. Sounds to me like whomever started this NX rumor really likes the PS4 controller. I doubt Nintendo would split up the D-pad, unless the removable controllers are meant to be held sideways and the D-pad acts as the standard 4 buttons (for 2 player mode). Actually, as opposed as I am to a split D-pad, that sounds pretty good. All this assuming of course that the main hybrid with removable controllers rumor is true.
