PlayStation 4 Surpasses Lifetime Wii U Sales In Japan

The PlayStation 4 is certainly the most successful console of the generation. However, it has only just outsold the Wii U in Japan. This could be explained by the Wii U’s earlier release date, but PlayStation has been ahead in worldwide sales for a considerable amount of time. This news has come from the latest Media Creates sales listings. The PS4’s sales have reached 3,267,243, passing the Wii U’s 3,265,329. Seeing as the Wii U’s life is coming to an end, it seems unlikely Nintendo could reclaim the lead in the next few months.

  1. P4. I was surprised by this. I didn’t realize it until now, but apparently the game market in Japan isn’t very big and has been dwindling recently. Most of the market is dominated by mobile gaming, followed by handhelds. Home consoles simply aren’t the prefered game devices over there.

  2. I’m surprised it took them that long. Just speaks volumes of the amount of fans that Nintendo has even considering the somewhat short list of games available for Wii U. Quality sure is there but definitely not quantity.

      1. Hm. I’ve been neglecting 2.8 because I thought it was just an HD remake of Dream Drop Distance but if it’s got two other games mixed in, I should probably rectify that & buy it when I get the chance.

    1. Losers? Sony is finally kicking Nintendo’s ass in home console sales in Japan. That’s not being a loser. Now if you meant Nintendo are the losers, you’d be right as the PS4 is only going to sell even more consoles as time goes on, burying the Wii U in Japan. Shame, really. Wii U had such high potential but now it’s just a joke.

        1. It still counts since both are in the same gen. Not to mention Sony gave up on Vita years ago, too, yet people still celebrate how it’s losing to the 3DS.

          1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

            ||Because High Command never badmouths the imbeciles and sure it counts, but only for that reason alone, as a whole it’s very pathetic…||

  3. Of course the PS4 surpassed the Wii U at this point. And that gap is only going to get even bigger as the months roll by. Give it another year & that gap is going to be more of a chasm than a tiny little gap.

  4. I don’t think it warrants a “congratulations” because honestly those numbers for both are just sad.

But then you look at Xbone’s numbers there and I don’t even know a word to describe it.

Yay Vita and 3DS in Japan tho.
