Capcom Unsure About Multiplatform Nintendo Switch Ports

Leading publisher and developer Capcom has said that it’s uncertain about the viability of bringing Xbox One and PlayStation 4 releases to the Nintendo Switch. The company says that it wants to make games which are best suited to Nintendo Switch due to the system’s uniqueness rather than dump ports on the platform. Capcom also questioned the viability of other companies bringing their Xbox One and PlayStation 4 games to the system.

“We are currently carrying out research with regards to multiplatform implementation of software for PS4 and Xbox One on to the Nintendo Switch,” it said. “However, we do feel that there are differences in the desired direction and the play-style of the Nintendo Switch and those of the PS4 or Xbox One.

“At Capcom, we determine which platform to release a title for after considering the features of both our software and the hardware in question, believing we must bring the enjoyment of our games to their maximum potential.

“As a software publisher, we endeavour to develop games that offer enjoyment best suited to each piece of hardware’s features and target users. Following first party, in order to introduce our own content we are currently moving forward with internal planning and analysis as a partner company.”

  1. Why can’t they just make Switch ports that have a unique control scheme that only the Switch could provide? I just don’t want companies pushing the Switch aside, yet giving all the love to Playstation and Xbox again. MAN, that gets old. For Nintendo to be on top again, it’s going to take a lot of help from ALL third party developers.

As far as Resident Evil 7 goes, if that game doesn’t have a third person perspective option, I don’t care if it makes it to the Switch (but business wise, it should). I flipping HATE first-person games.

      1. some fps games are ok timesplitters 2 was alot of fun and resi evils 0-4 were awesome code veronica was cool too

personally i’d love doom 3 on switch

  2. They’ve got no excuse for not bring Resident Evil Remastered – it’s essentially a beefed up GameCube game! If they do, I’ll buy it in a heartbeat.

      1. You sure are full of surprises Comander :) I only know english and spanish. I am learning japanese with the help of a cousin. Can you tell me what that person was saying?

        1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

        2. It’s okay, Capcom! Just bring a new Viewtiful Joe, Dino Crisis and make a new Resident Evil from the early Resident Evil 4 beta, all exclusively for the Nintendo Switch!
          Thank You
(Oh, and don’t forget about Street Fighter and Darkstalkers)

          1. Dude….i could kiss you right about now.
            NO HOMO!!! Lol

Seriously I do agree with the exact selection of games. All I want is:
            *Viewtiful Joe 1&2
*Dino Crisis 1&2 (without that janky camera)
            *Resident Evil
            *Street Fighter…EVERY LAST ONE!!
            *DarkStalkers 1&2
            *JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
*Marvel vs Capcom 1,2&3!!! …I wish!!!
*A BRAND NEW POWERSTONE ALONG WITH POWERSTONE 1&2!!!
*The Legend of Zelda Minish Cap
Capcom…you give me these & Ill STFU!!!!!

        3. I think this can only mean that the Switch is not as powerful as PS4 or XBO. What else could they mean when they say they want to “offer enjoyment best suited to each piece of hardware’s features and target users.”? The Switch doesn’t have any special gameplay mechanic like the Wii and Wii U did.

          1. Well, we (or I) can only hope that Switch will support 2nd screen gaming and motion controls in some shape or form, it really wouldn’t hurt as an option. I need those things, I don’t want to go back to TV only play and thumbstick controls, if it comes to that, I might as well stop gaming, period.

        4. Here we go, these are the cop out statements that started way back with the Wii and then moved into the Wii U and now it’s the switch. I agree that Nintendo platforms that have unique features should have something tailored to suit them but that doesn’t mean everything has to be made special for it. It’s just an excuse for developers not to make anything for it or take chances with their existing IP. I could understand before where the difference in power was one factor but now it’s like even if the switch is powerful enough they’re going to use the excuse of a let’s make something that’s tailored to suit its unique features. The instantaneous conversion from Home console to Portable of this system is not so much a gimmick that needs to be tailored to as it is an optional feature and there’s no excuse for not bringing over multi-platform titles as long as the system is capable. Most likely these developers are just gun shy do two experiences on previous Nintendo home consoles Baldwin’s comments like this start it spreads like wildfire to other developers and then they become scared to release their multiplatform titles on Nintendo systems and then it just becomes the same vicious cycle all over again. Forget about adding special features to suit the system and just release a straight port that Nintendo fans can play at home or on the go. Period.

        5. Aaannddd it begins.

It reads to me like ” we’re having issue’s but don’t really wanna talk about it because we have two other consoles we can pump out the game’s on”

Starting to feel less excited for this machine.

        6. Monster Hunter! The Switch is literally built for the MH franchise, take it over to your friends, bring your Switch and copy of MH with you on the go, play it on you big tv, and even hold your own MH competition. Capcom can still release the MH FG series on other consoles for those who prefer mostly online, but we all know damn well that the main MH series flourished more in multiple countries on the Nintendo consoles than anywhere else. Also MH on Nintendo consoles are still capable of multiplayer due to not relying on paid service like ps plus or xblive, which means even for some odd reason 20 years down the line if you wanted to play MH3U/4U/Gen/or XX with your friends you would still be able to, you can’t do that on any Playstation or xbox console due to their online paid services and shutting down servers when a game doesn’t have the player base anymore. MH is the main reason why I even bought my 3ds to begin with.

        7. Capcom can go to hell, they’ve killed fucking Megaman and they are killing Street Fighter also with that milking posture. Microtransations are killing videogames in general, these greed bastards develop a full game and then they split the damn thing to steal our money, what’s worst is that the games are decaying in quality as time goes on.

          1. And they Killed Albert Wesker. :(
He will always live on to me. Favorite Villain and role model. ;D
So fuck Capcom for RE5 but I still want MH on Nintendo platforms. :D

            1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

              ||They ruined such a fine meta human with Resident Evil 5, the entire persona of it…||

              ||Resident Evil 4 had the final appearance of the real Wesker…||

              1. I hope that at leat they port Megaman X7 and Megaman X8 because the graphics of those games are not superior to Wii U or the Nintendo Switch. They can also make a complete X Collection that include X7 and X8.

          2. SFV has some of the best quality gameplay of the series IMO. And the microtransaction DLC is nothing new, it’s the same thing as having to buy new versions of the game every year: SUPER, ARCADE, ULTRA, etc. They’ve been doing this since the 90’s, EXCEPT you don’t even have to purchase the new characters and stages with real money, you can use fight money which you earn in game.

        8. Capcom does not have any games that I support anymore so it doesn’t matter to me personally but I can see how people might interpret this as them saying either the switch is underpowered or they just don’t trust the consumer to buy the type of games they make which is also understandable but given the lazy ports and buggy games these devs are prone to make it is not a surprise. I can guarantee if the switch sells appropriately they will have no doubt about making games or ports, at the end of the day money is all its about for them

          1. It’s gonna go down like this:
            First.
“We want to make games that fits the system”
            Then:
            “System is too “weak””
            And finally:
            “Userbase is not big enough”

        9. Wii U all over again. Once again developers see Nintendo using outdated tech with an added wrinkle which deters them from wanting to put in the extra work in. I swear Nintendo does this on purpose to keep 3rd parties away. They don’t want to be outdone on their own hardware. They pride themselves on making amazing games on weak hardware so adding barriers of entry so to speak keeps up that illusion. That said, the audience and potential sales really aren’t there for these developers so even if the NS was simply a box with normal controller but more powerful than PS4…they still wouldn’t make ports.

          1. ports and support have nothing to do with chips

wake up nintendo keeps pulling the carpet from under the industry its FEAR LOATHING AND JELOUSY

wii made more profit than the entire industry in 2/3 gens THERE JELOUS AND CRAPCOM ARE GOING BROKE RE5 RE6 LOST MILLIONS LAst gen almost bankrupted them

            1. You speak all this nonsense and yet all you can think of is Meth..
I hope this drug addict goes to hell along with his pet dog once I remove it from existence..

              Bowler… You’re fucking pathetic!

        10. Can’t wait for the next big video market crash so that a lot of these excuse making, previously great, hack ass companies can go the way of the dodo and make room for innovative risk takers. As someone who was alive in the early 80s and saw this first hand, I welcome the flames. As a gamer I don’t know how much more of this bullshit I can take before I turn my back on “new school” gaming. Roster updates, new whoop’d do graphics and particle effects, but same old crap shovelware games. Yeah, thats right I called COD, battlefield, madden, and most of the other main modern day franchises as I see them; shovelware. Nintendo brought it all back in the mid 80s and could potentially again. Regardless of who it is that brings the market back, Nintendo or otherwise, I simply can’t wait. I guess I should be happy of a few things though…. At least I still have my classic systems and arcade machines to enjoy. Even more importantly, the dumpster fire that is this industry, hasn’t completely stolen my passion…… yet….

          1. exactlythe reason switch needs to disrupt the industry again and return to gamings roots and use its advanced controllers and abillitys to put fire in gamings belly

trying to explain what gaming is and what it is not to the ps buying youth of today is like trying to explain why we shit there a bunch of idiots the industry allready went bust wii busted it

80% less AAA games this gen

80% less EA games this gen

80% less unreal 4 engine games than unreal 3 engine games

nintendo knows this and is about to take over INVEST YOUR CASH IN THERE STOCK WAKE UP

        11. Just wait a friggin minute. Nobody here mentioned Dead Rising? The single best thing Capcom ever made for zombie genre? I need this on Nintendo again.

        12. @ Bowler

As I am the poster above that refrenced the dumpster fire that the industry has become, again might I add, I am a NTDOY shareholder. Quite proud of that fact actually. I agree with your sentiment about Nintendo being a wise investment, but that is only part of the reason I am vested in them. JUST as important is the legacy of excellence they left me from my childhood into my adulthood. Quality and fun without comprimize. It was always a dream of mine to own a part of that legacy and I made sure that came to pass. Just like as a boy I got a refund check direct from Nintendo of America headquarters in Redmond, Washington. I steadfastly refused to cash it and have it to this day… It is one of several cherished items from my youth that I will only give up to the cold embrace of death, when that day comes….

          “IT SAID.”

          LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!11111!!!!!!!!!!!!11!

        14. Capcom making exclusives for a Nintendo console? Unless it’s Monster Munter, I don’t trust Capcom to keep their Nintendo exclusives actually exclusive. Resident Evil 0: an Gamecube Exclusive that’s now on PS3/4 & Xbox 360/One. Resident Evil 4: another so called Gamecube Exclusive that got ported to PS3/4 & Xbox 360/One. Resident Evil Revelations: exclusive 3DS title that got ported to the PS3, Xbox 360, & Wii U not even 2 years later!

Sorry, Capcom, but like Ubisoft, I don’t trust you for shit on Nintendo consoles anymore. So I’ll stick with Resident Evil on my PS4 instead.

        15. Let me stop you right there, Capcom. You’re not. Not only is the Switch incapable of PS4/Xbox graphic games, but you’re going to have a hard time justifying exclusives for it especially when multiplats are the norm.

                1. I’ll be more than happy to explain, mon ami.
The Switch is less powerful than the PS4/Xbox One. This will mean Capcom will not be able to port games without building it from the ground up, and that’s something that will cost too much for them to consider doing. That leaves one option: Switch exclusive games. Will they do it? Maybe. It would be very stupid business-wise if they invest into Switch exclusive games, if the Switch is not successful.

        16. Why does the switch need ports of games this is what wiiu had issues with. I mean the wii did so well because people would have playstation 3 and a wii. I mean if I buy a switch I’m buying it to play games by Nintendo and companies that make and think like Nintendo. ITS always about the ports of games it’s just dump to make the same game for pc, xbox one, PS4, and Nintendo but if capcom makes games just for the switch that are just as entertaining I see the system working but if u want a system that will play all your PS4 games just don’t see how third party would make enough money
