Video: Here’s The North American Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Commercial

This is no April Fools joke. Nintendo has uploaded a commercial for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which releases on the Nintendo Switch in a few weeks. The commercial is intended to air in North America, and the its focus is on the basic premise of the game and the new characters that will debut in this version of Mario Kart 8. We’ve included the video, of which Nintendo America calls a trailer, down below. Feel free to check it out if you want to.

  1. Still disappointed that there is no upgrade option if you already own the game digitally on WiiU. I bought the physical WiiU copy, then the digital version and all DLC later and now I will get the Switch version too. Sure, noone is forcing me to do that but I think that the industry as a whole should finally figure out ways not to put early adopters in such big disadvantages all the time. It’s a bit unfair imho.

    1. But it is just a game on a new system. A system that is also portable. Why would it be fair to give a discount just because you bought it on a different platform? It seems the opposite of that. In fact, with all the DLC included and the new features, it would seem that it is at a discount for everyone to some degree. Nintendo obviously makes questionable moves at times, but this seems to be a case of illegitimate sour grapes. Has there ever been a discount for a game, not even an upgraded one, where it came out for a new platform a couple years later for those who bought it on the other platform by the same company?

      1. I have pointed out that noone has forced me into buying multiple copies of the game. I don’t blame Nintendo. This business move is absolutely understandable. But more generally speaking, as a longtime gamer you just realise that it’s actually not smart to buy early. What I meant was, that I would appreciate it if gaming companies would figure out ways to thank early adopters a litte bit. I mean, they need them. If everyone would wait for price drops the industry would be in deep trouble. The ambassador program was a cool idea. Maybe they could add a little My Nintendo bonus when you buy games full price during their launch windows. Stuff like that. I just think that this would be a nice way to reward their most loyal customers a little bit.

      2. I guess in that sense I agree… I mean, if I am all in with Nintendo, as I am, and I have not bought the Switch yet, but have been playing BOTW and when i do buy the switch I want my game to transfer over, it would be nice if not only i could do that, but there would be a way to get the game at a discount because of my having bought the game on one of “their” platforms, as opposed to buying a game for, let’s say, PS4 and then wanting it on XB1 or PC… I guess if Nintendo did that, it would likely be a digital copy only which might bridge the gap because you can’t just take that digital copy and give it to someone else, but yeah… Something like that would be good. I guess ultimately it is their fault the Wii U took a dump and those of us that have had it for the console’s entire life feel a bit empty, but I will give it to them that they at least upgraded MK8DX enough that it looks worth the purchase and the portability is cool too. Now I might not want to buy New Super Mario Bros Wii U on Switch as another sideways port, but now that I type I just might because I am a sucker
        haha

  2. I kind of feel like a chump owning a digital Wii U copy of MK8. I’d probably have a Switch if I was at all ABLE to sell any of my digital games :(
