While simply called Ganon in his beast form, Nintendo have confirmed that the Legend of Zelda villain is actually called Ganondorf Dragmire. This surname was originally used in A Link to the Past’s instruction manual in 1992, but it has recently resurfaced on Nintendo’s official website. Ganondorf has become as iconic as Link and Zelda, so it’s interesting to have this tidbit confirmed.

I realize Miyamoto was joking, but we can’t just leave the situation with a cool name like Ganondorf Dragmire versus a less-than-impressive name like Link Link.

I know right.. If I was watching a boxing match or fighting event, and the headline said; Ganondorf Dragmire vs. Link Link…. I’d be pulling for Ganondorf every time..lol

Plot twist: Link’s full name is actually Link Dragmire.

I think its better that Link has no surname. Hes unknown. He lives in Legend, and in legend peoples last names often go unknown. The name Link is so cool and badass that adding a surname might tarnish it.

Just when you thought Ganondorf’s name couldn’t get any more badass…

‘kay, but Link, Zelda, Impa… None of the other characters have surnames, what makes Ya Boy GanonDORK so special?

Well… in Breath of the Wild her fathers name is Rhoam Bosphoromus Hyrule. Therefor, I would have to imagine Zelda’s surname is also Hyrule.

Ah, but is this given canon acknowledgement? Probably not.

its a different Zelda and Link most of the time so the surnames would change. considering its the same Ganon reincarnated every time from Demise (unless im wrong here) he would have the same surname…but even then, the surname Dragmire was only given in A Link to the Past. He could have only been a Dragmire for that time and only served for story purposes. For me it would make most sense to have given him the surname Dragmire in OoT, where he was born a Gerudo prince, thus the name serving to present him as a more humanistic character instead of an evil king archetype. But really at the end of it all none of this matters cause its a video game.

Actually, Zelda does have a last name. Its Hyrule. (Her father’s name is Roahm Somethingsomething Hyrule in BOTW)

This isn’t anything new. It just hasn’t come up in a while. I hope they use the name more often in the future. It’s pretty much the greatest name Nintendo has come up with.

Was honestly expecting Ganondorf Ganondorf. XP

I was afraid it’d just be Dorf. Ganon Dorf. Thus, we’ve be calling him wrong all these years.

You know what I was expecting? FOR GANONDORF TO APPEAR IN BOTW BUT WE CANT ALL GET WHAT WE WERE EXPECTING, CAN WE?? Sorry Im still a little salty about Ganon not assuming a human form in the game. Seems like a waste IMO.

I wish they made a side game with him as the main character. the legend of ganondorf.

Well, at least he has a proper name unlike Mario Mario and Link Link.

Now, can we get him to make some educational videos? We can call the series Ganondorf On. . .

Come on Nintendo, we all know that his name is Crenando

I have a better question. When Zelda’s father in BotW is named Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule, doesn’t it mean that Zelda’s surname should be also Hyrule?

Damn, king’s name in Wind Waker is Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule, which would also mean that the name Hyrule is probably passed down by each generation of the royal family. Mindfuck.

That’s hardly a ‘mindfuck’. It’s common sense…

Well, Zelda’s surname has never been stated, and also I didn’t remember king’s name in WW (didn’t like it very much), so it’s been pretty shocking to me.

It’s still better than “Mario Mario”.

I’m so depressed that Calamity Ganon in Breath Of The Wild is just some weird monster with smoke etc. emitting from it. Nintendo can’t even make an amiibo out of it. I think one of the many reasons that Ocarina Of Time was so great is Ganondorf being a human (before transforming), and having a personality. In Breath Of The Wild, he may as well be a super powerful pile of dog poop. Great game, but Nintendo screwed up with Calamity Ganon.

Have you actually fought it yet? It’s a bit… more than that. Not what I was expecting either though; I was just like “…what?” when I got to it.
I can get past the “no human form” thing for this entry in the series; it makes sense Ganon wouldn’t adopt the same form twice, plus I’m almost certain other big villains we’ve seen throughout the series were other incarnations of the same evil origin that created Ganon (Malledus in Spirit Tracks, Yuga in Link Between Worlds, etc.)

Not yet. I just figured he looked the same as that thing circling around Hyrule Castle. Plus I heard someone else on YouTube saying something similar to what I said about Ganon.

Pretty lame that he would have one but not Mario or Link according to Miyamoto. Again, another Miyamoto fail.

I’ve always liked that last name. I’m all for it being canon.
