VGChartz: Nintendo 3DS Passes An Estimated 20 Million Units Sold In The US

VGChartz data isn’t really official chart data but it gives a good indication of sales outside of the NPD Group who provide the official sales figures. Today, the site is reporting that the Nintendo 3DS has sold over 20 million units in the United States alone. The site says the handheld has sold over 20,025,292 units and they also report that a staggering 85,838,553 games have been sold for the Nintendo 3DS at retail in the US.

  1. “but it gives a good indication of sales outside of the NPD Group who provide the official sales figures.”

Disagree. On the whole over a very extended time they give you a rough idea, but on any one day of looking at the site it’s a gross distortion of what’s happening right now.

      1. It’s a fun site with an awesome community on the forums. The numbers don’t get updated regularly, and they usually do course correct somewhat when official numbers come out – which is a big reason why monthly/weekly numbers are so off (they have to overcorrect for estimates that were off the mark for previous timeframes).

If you avoid anything remotely related to politics. Really wish they’d just close that section of the site off.

  2. Nintendo needs to allow official sales numbers for the 3DS already. I’m curious about the sales number. (Wikipedia only has numbers shipped, not numbers sold.)
