Dragon Quest XI Coming To PlayStation 4 On September 4th, Switch Version Coming Much Later And Not On 3DS

Square Enix has finally revealed when western gamers can get their hands on the long-awaited Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The game will launch on the PlayStation 4 in North America and Europe on September 4th. However, IGN has revealed that the Nintendo Switch version of the game will launch much later. That’s a shame for Nintendo only gamers. The company also revealed that they won’t be launching the Nintendo 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age in the west.

IGN: “As for the Switch version, things are slightly less clear. “We are also developing the Switch version for Europe and North America,” reads Square Enix’s statement, “but development is expected to take a long time from a technological standpoint as well, so we still have a long way to go until its release”.

“At a Dragon Quest event, a Square Enix PR representative told IGN that the Switch version would definitely not be released in 2018, and could end up being released “much later”.

  1. The 3DS version had a really cool art style between the two screens. Disappointing it won’t come west but makes sense they didn’t want to localize it for handheld.

    1. It only “makes sense” in that these types of moronic decisions are par-for-the-course with Square-Enix by this point. In every other regard it’s completely baffling, absurd, and unacceptable.

    2. How the fuck that makes sense? if anything the biggest DQ install base is on the 3DS as the lastest remasters were released in it not long ago(7 and 8). Besides the 15mil+ people that owe a 3DS here, if they marketed it well it could easily sell 500k, but is fucking SE we talking about, so we are missing on the superior 3DS version now??

I am done with this company.

      1. Other UE4 games got ported in weeks. By indie devs. I would think SE would be equally capable with one of their own games.

              1. At this point it’s expected. They need to pull their shit together like Capcom did with Monster Hunter World and just do worldwide releases.

  2. Disappointing 😞 Especially as Dragon Quest has basically been a Nintendo series for the last 10 years. They’ve had almost a year since the Japanese release to work on the Switch port and it sounds like it’s going to be well into 2019 before it comes out. Square Enix doesn’t seem to work very efficiently as plenty of other companies can get games out much quicker. And they wonder why Dragon Quest isn’t as popular in the west!

  3. That’s a huge letdown. Square-Enix has been a major disappointment to me as a whole with how they’ve handled the Switch. “Octopath Traveler” looks awesome, but where are our larger budget games? Getting console-tier games on the go is the whole point of the Switch.

  4. Yeeeaaah no. This “no 3DS version for the west” malarkey ain’t gonna fly.

Time to get yet ANOTHER “reverse Square-Enix’s stupid DQ-related decisions” campaign going, I guess. If not to actually cause a change, then to at least hold them accountable for their lazy, self-sabotaging bullshit.

  6. I really think this is a Sony thing. Not really surprised to be honest. There’s no way Sony’s gonna let a Switch version be released any where near a PS4 release. It would get slaughtered.

    1. For the people that are Nintendo only gamers because they can’t afford multiple systems but prefer Nintendo for their 1st party offerings, this definitely sucks. For the rest of the Nintendo only gamers, it’s the price you pay for your loyal (and sometimes blind) service to the Nintendo machine.

  8. I’ll just wait for the Switch version. I’m done buying games for PS4 unless it’s an exclusive/ not on Switch or PC. This year already has enough games I want, so I’m fine with waiting.
