Nintendo Treehouse Stream Showcases Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion Gameplay

Splatoon 2’s paid DLC Octo Expansion is available today on the Switch eShop. If you haven’t yet checked it out yourself at E3, the Nintendo Treehouse team showed some gameplay earlier this evening. As a new single player experience, the Octo Expansion opens up with a mysterious poem and is set deep in the underground where you’ll meet Cap’n Cuttlefish – a familiar face from the first Splatoon game.

Unable to remember anything, you’ll be led into the avatar creation screen and are able to choose your gender, skin colour and one of two available hairstyle choices for your Octoling, otherwise known as Agent 8. To set the scene, Cap’n Cuttlefish will backtrack through the first Splatoon’s Inkling storyline before letting you loose in Deep Sea Metro Station.

After a brief tutorial section to refresh your Octo reflexes with the Splattershot Jr, you’ll make your way inside the Subway Train to reach the Promise Land; the surface. Players will bump into the aptly named C Q Cumber who will help you navigate the subway system as an employee of Kamabo Corporation to take on several different challenges.

Most challenges will include multiple weapons, so you can usually pick from your favourites. While you’ll have to pay a test fee with your points to take the challenge, you’ll be rewarded additional points on completion of the level, along with collective items called Mem Cakes, which often contain pieces of your lost memory.  Missions will often vary between puzzle levels and enemy shootout objectives, to keep the pace fluid and fresh. The Octo Expansion is available to download this evening on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
