Square Enix Is Bringing Octopath Traveler Prequel To Both iOS And Android

The meaty and tough Octopath Traveler was released by Square Enix on the Nintendo Switch last year and proved to be an engrossing game. The company has now announced that a prequel to the game is in development for both iOS and Android devices. Twinfinite reports that the number of characters in battle has been increased to eight and also that the game will feature new additional characters.

  1. Switch has several brilliant exclusives, and the turn-based JRPG Octopath Traveler is one.

Last 2018, the awards: Mobile/Handheld Title of the Year and Nintendo Game of the Year going to Octopath Traveler did not surprised me.

I feel like this Square Enix gem heading to the mobile platform is great news.

More people is going to play and have fun with it.

For a great game, it deserves more support.

    1. Wait really? It won awards? For best mobile game? I tried the demo out like 10 times and I really didn’t think Octopath Traveler was put together all that well. Even the initial fights take way too long to complete and it’s UI is so tiny for a handheld screen. Like the UI sort of works on the Switch because it has a large screen but on a smaller screen, the text can very easily become smaller than the battery/status area of most phones.

        1. That’s weird. I really want to like Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default, and I did kind of like Bravely Default but so many of Square-Enix’s games, except DragonQuest stuff, feel like work now. It sucks because there was a long time where it seemed like it was hard for them to make something that was a classic.

          1. I know what you mean. I feel the same way every time I have to do one of Square Enix’s mini-games. I’m sure most of us hate them and I’m sure Square Enix knows this, yet they keep bloody doing them in their games. -.-

            1. I haven’t played one of the mini-games in their games in years. I was alright with some of them for the purposes of varying up gameplay but year they’re usually not very good.

  2. I won’t play it on mobile. Nice to see them continuing the game tho. They probly want to monetize all the different characters so they’ll give you the character and their story for $4.99 each.

    1. Of course most people do but that doesn’t mean we enjoy playing games on a small screen. I personally really enjoy sitting on my couch with a nice big screen while I play a good jrpg.

  3. The combat system looks watered down compared to the original. Will probably be microtransaction heavy too.

Add this to the list of games that were ruined by mobile.
