Eiji Aonuma Says That It’s “Very Interesting To Me” That People Are “Going Straight Into The Thought Of Co-Op” In Breath Of The Wild 2

It is an understatement to say that the sequel to Zelda: Breath Of The Wild has a lot of people talking. Most of the E3 2019 interviews that we have been sharing with you have involved this game, and day 2 of E3 has only just wrapped up. The latest example of this comes from IGN. Not only are people talking about the possibility of Zelda being playable, but IGN talked to Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma about the game having co-op.  Aonuma said that “it’s kind of interesting that you bring that up, because in Breath of the Wild, you see Zelda and Link together often too, so to go straight into the thought of co-op is very interesting to me.”

  1. While I’d love a playable Zelda & 2-player co-op in BotW2, it won’t be the end of the world if that isn’t what happens. I know some people (in particular the “social justice” crowd) will flip their shit if this doesn’t happen, though. In which case, sucks for them.

    1. I love how wanting Zelda to be playable in a game is “sjw nonsense” instead of the reality that Zelda is very popular, has passionate fans, ppl love her in Smash, and ppl like her in BoTW so they want to understandably play her in a game cause that hasn’t happen since that one shitty game. But sure she’s. I’ve never seen a more useless, over abused, and ridiculous internet buzzword. You are an sjw for literally any opinion on games that has to do with options, opinions on characters, personal tastes in design, if you are tired of bland troupes or story telling etc etc etc.

Anyway I don’t care if Zelda is playable or not. I just think gamers who whine about she’s are so wack. You use the term and its an anotmatic disregard

      1. Wanting Zelda to be playable isn’t SJW nonsense. What would be SJW nonsense would be to get pissed that she isn’t playable in a game in a franchise where the main, playable character has always been the male hero Link and then screaming that the game & Nintendo are misogynistic because of some perceived bullshit “attack on women.” (Like that idiot Anita that called the “damsel-in-distress” trope misogynistic when she attacked the Legend of Zelda franchise years ago.) You might consider SJW a buzz word (I do, too, but I’ll cover that crap later) but sadly there are actual people out there on Twitter, Facebook, etc that fit the bill. As the saying goes, “if the shoe fits” and it fits some people very well. (Case in point, Anita Sarkeesian.)

Personally, I hate the term “social justice” because that in itself is a buzz word that these people supposedly fighting for it use to try and guilt trip people into siding with their point of view because you must hate women, people of color, etc if you dare to have a negative opinion about a shitty movie or game with shitty writing that just so happens to have the main character as either a woman, a person of color, etc even though your issue with the product has nothing to do with the main character’s gender or color. (Like Paul Feig & others tried to do to people that didn’t like the Ghostbusters 2016 movie. “Oh you don’t like our movie that has female leads? Then you hate women!” *rolls eyes*) Hence why I put “social justice” in parentheses and try not to use the term SJW because it’s just a buzz word born from another buzz word. At the end of the day, social justice is just bullshit and there is only justice. Pure/unadulterated justice.

      2. In fact, you say I’m calling all people that want a playable Zelda SJWs but you clearly forgot the first part of my comment where I said I’d love to have a playable Zelda, too! So tell me. How exactly am I automatically assuming anyone wanting a playable Zelda is an SJW when I myself also want a playable Zelda? As I said in my first reply to you, I’m only calling people not happy with a playable Zelda SJWs if they start imagining some perceived attack on women if Zelda isn’t playable. (Since SJWs tend to be stupid people, they will definitely try & claim Zelda not being playable is offensive toward women and is an attack on them.)

As for the ones that will get mad for something not pertaining to “social justice,” well I point to the part of my comment about how The Legend of Zelda franchise has always had Link as the main playable character of every main entry so people shouldn’t be surprised if Zelda isn’t made playable as Link has always been the main playable character of the franchise, anyway.

      3. No, it’s SJW because it’s usurping Link’s place! if they removed Samus and forced you to play as a male character tou’d be the first to protest, but bwcause it’s a woman stealing a man’s place you clap instead; want to know what tha is called? It’s called hypocrisy.

      4. Whether Zelda is playable or not is not a question of SJWs. If they praise themselves to protest, nobody will listen to them. However, if we can now put armor and minibikinis on Zelda, they will make a really huge scandal. That’s the problem with those idiots in video games. For example, Dead Or Alive, is a saga where women are furtes, and beat men as equals. However, the SJWs get into the game because they are “sexualized” even though the male characters are also.

    2. Oh for crying out loud. You people really all run off the same script, don’t you. For how much you would claim that “SJWs” are constantly inserting their “opinions” everywhere, y’all really can’t go two seconds without being like “BTW, everything is about SJWs, and I hate them”. There wasn’t even any mention of feminism in this topic, which is usually the word that gets peoples’ teeth grinding. It was about playable ZELDA in the legend of ZELDA.

The fact you have a problem with Anita Sarkeesian saying that it’s uncomfortable that women are constantly treated as objects and prizes in video games, and called her an idiot says enough about you. Doubly so for bringing it up without any reason to. No one with any brain cells would get triggered by Anita or discourse about women in games except for the niche oversensitive hardcore gamer crowd who’s angry when people question things and perceive it as an attack on men.

      1. Except they are fictional characters in a video game so they are, in essence, objects. And it’s not just the women characters, either. Same goes for the men, children, & animal characters, too. If people made as much of a fuss about REAL human beings and animals as they did these fictional characters, they might not be seen as idiots and as jokes and might actually be taken seriously. Go to Kotaku or Polygon and I guarantee you’ll see some so called journalist getting up in arms about Legend of Zelda being sexist towards women because there has yet to be Zelda or a female Link as a playable character in the main games. If you honestly don’t think people like Anita don’t exist, you can also go to Twitter & Facebook. You’ll see quite a few of these idiots there in those places.

      2. Except they are fictional characters in a video game so they are, in essence, objects. And it’s not just the women characters, either. Same goes for the men, children, & animal characters, too. Since they are all fictional characters within a fictional story, they are all objects. Digital objects but objects none the less. If these people made as much of a fuss about REAL human beings and animals as they did these fictional characters, they might not be seen as idiots and as jokes and might actually be taken seriously. Go to Kotaku or Polygon and I guarantee you’ll see some so called journalist getting up in arms about Legend of Zelda being s.e.xist towards women because there has yet to be Zelda or a female Link as a playable character in the main games. If you honestly don’t think people like Anita don’t exist, you can also go to Twitter & Facebook. You’ll see quite a few of these idiots there in those places if you look hard enough.

If you actually believe Anita’s bullshit and agree with her, it says enough about you. Could video games do better? Sure but it’s not nearly as bad as these days as people like Anita would have other people believe.

(Is this gonna go through or is WordPress gonna be stupid again?)

      3. You mean the Anita who stole 600K, didn’t buy any games and instead used Valis’ footage, then had Valis create fake footage so she could claim that Hitman forces you to attack the women even though the game actually penalizes you for it and then she quit the video series halfway through because it wasn’t profitable anymore?

Maybe perhaps the issue people have with Anita is that she caused an irreparable rift between male and female gamers just so she could scam dumb people like you.

      1. …was 4 player, so technically this would be the first to be two player, if you don’t count the gba integration in Wind Waker

  2. This article gave me the thought of how badass would it be to have a Apex legends/fortnight battle royal game made by Nintendo be set in Breath Of The Wild Hyrule map with with all smash characters available to choose from. Then different modes of weapons such as Zelda pack(crossbow/blades), Metroid(futuristic plasma laser guns), goldeneye(sniper/golden guns). Then have an arcade mode where it’s Nintendo style take on it. Then a fine tuned version where the scale is as large as the map like the other battle royal games and as detailed as BotW. Ha anyways I had to throw that out into the world. Maybe someone at Nintendo reads these things :)

  3. Eiji Aonuma: Zelda…
Everyone: OMG, she is going to be playable in BotW2
Eiji Aonuma: I said no such thing.
Everyone: What a fraud, you said she would be playable.
Eiji Aonuma: You mother*censored* like to make assumptions. All i said was her name and nothing else.

  4. Seeing how they add controlling a second character into more and more games it doesn’t seem too unreasonable that controlling someone else with a second controller/joycon might become a thing, but I doubt it for BotW2, as the controls are too complex, you would really need a second controller, passing a joycon wouldn’t cut it.

  5. Can you really blame them?

I thought the idea of a Zelda game with Co-Op was so interesting that it would be crazy for them NOT to do it… and that was YEARS before this trailer came out.

    #Zelda4CoOp

  6. Why do people think that sharing joy cons is like playing co-op? It’s really not the same thing. It doesn’t work in breath of the wild, I mean.
