A Nevada resident named Scott Amos recently came across an unopened copy of the original Kid Icarus in the attic of his childhood home. The NES game was purchased back in 1988 for $38.45 – which equates to more than $80 today – but it was never opened and remains sealed to this day. Amos is expecting it to sell for a whopping $10,000 at an online auction.
“Kid Icarus is one of the hardest NES titles to find in sealed condition,” said Valarie McLeckie, video game consignment director at Heritage Auctions, in a news release. “To find a sealed copy ‘in the wild,’ so to speak, not to mention one in such a nice condition and one with such transparent provenance, is both an unusual and rather historic occurrence. We feel that the provenance will add a significant premium for serious collectors.”
If the sale goes as expected, Amos plans to put the money toward a family vacation. “We’re going to do a Disney World vacation next month,” he said. “Instead of doing something responsible, we’re going to have some fun with it.” It goes without saying that if you have any classic Nintendo titles laying around, they could be worth some serious bucks!

Anyone that pays that much for ANY game is clinically insane (not to mention, filthy rich). Even for an entire library of NES games, $10.000 would be crazy. And that’s coming from a guy who values games more than his own life.
How could you be 100% sure it’s unopened. It could of been opened and resealed without any trace of being opened. It’s amazing what people can do nowadays.
Also I have this phobia that one day il open a case and due to factory fault the cartridge will be missing. This could be the situation with this kid Icarus game and I’d be itching to open it to know it’s in there.

Duuuude, you’re getting that for a Nintendo game- at least use the funds on the upcoming Nintendo World so it makes sense.
