NPD: “The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform of both December and 2019”

The first monthly NPD report is out for 2020, and this is an extra special one. The first NPD report of the year not only looks back at December from the previous year, but also gives us insight on the year as a whole. What makes this report extra special, however, is that this will even look back at the previous decade. According to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, the Playstation 4 was the decade’s best-selling gaming hardware. As for the previous month and year, Piscatella says that the “Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform of both December and 2019″. Piscatella also explained that “hardware spending in December 2019 declined 17% when compared to a year ago, to $973,000,000. Annual hardware spending fell 22%, to $3,900,000,000. Nintendo Switch gains could not offset declines across other platforms”.

  1. Well, Nintendo is making huge bucks out of this popular console that everyone enjoys. But, it won’t be long until Nintendo announced there new hardware in 3 years tops.

    1. Ok?

Not sure what point you were going for. 6 years would be a very normal cycle before announcing a successor console. They’ll probably let Sony launch the PS5, watch the audience reaction to that, let the hype subside, and then make their own move.

As much as I wanted the dock for the switch to contain an additional graphics processor at launch, honestly I don’t think they should make a Switch Pro at this point. It takes too much away with what they can do with the Switch 2.
