A month ago, when E3 2020 was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ESA said that they were “exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020”. Since then, the only developments we got was IGN’s announcement of a “Summer of Gaming” digital event, and E3 2021 was dated. Well, an E3 representative has told PCGamer that they will not be having a digital E3 2020 this year. You can see the representative’s statement in full down below.
“Given the disruption brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be presenting an online E3 2020 event in June. Instead, we will be working with exhibitors to promote and showcase individual company announcements, including on www.E3expo.com, in the coming months. We look forward to bringing our industry and community together in 2021 to present a reimagined E3 that will highlight new offerings and thrill our audiences.”
Why not though? They’ve had plenty of time to prepare for a digital presentation like Playstation State of Play or an Nintendo Direct.
Yeah that maybe true but this year might be a total waste because of COVID-19 outbreak. I know how Nintendo and other companies feel about this outbreak, but most companies like them have plenty of time to prepare for upcoming games and events. All of us are still waiting for the PS5 reveal witch it won’t be anytime soon this year. Also, We didn’t get a full Direct last month, but this year might be different.

Except one thing has nothing to do with the other (which is online news, i.e. telling people what games they have to look forward to and throw money at, and no, you don’t need a mass gathering to do that).
Oh and shaming people by calling them selfish twats doesn’t make the situation better. But I guess you’re content right now (til the end of time) with New Horizons. Every been so wound up with energy and wide awake, but cooped up in a confined tight space due to government dictates? That’s the average person who ISN’T bedridden/self-quarantined by this virus. So try considering how THEY feel, and how a drought in decent NON-COVID-19 news effects their minds, as well as all the indefinite delays and cancellations. Hell, I pretty sure people rather be doing something constructive than arguing with people like you, or they should get away from the computer and get some fresh air- oh wait, they CAN’T!
Even if you’re a natural introvert, there are two major things that keep the mind from going numb, going places and watching the latest content (shows, movies, game reveals, and YouTube content). Take both things away, and one goes stir-crazy. Sure there’s video games, but we all have to put the controller down every now and then to avoid burnout.

I’m sorry but saying “there is more to life than video games.” is just a terrible statement for a world where many people have very different psychological needs when it comes to following the law.
Many people who are stuck at home are having more trouble going outside, so if you take away all entertainment, it’s very natural that many people will go insane. If you think entertainment alone is just “an optional side”, then I may have a challenge for you.
IGN practically beat them to it. There’s no reason to host two digital events at the same time.
I guess it’s up to each developer individually now if they want to present anything or not in the wake of E3’s absence this year. I hope more decide to do something than not, especially Nintendo- once again, outside of BotW 2, we know NOTHING about what they have in the works.
Well, I bet the hackers know what Nintendo is planning. But, they do have surprises for us later on.

Let’s not forget Metroid Prime 4 now.
I don’t count Prime 4 because Retro is handling that. I mean in-house Nintendo- like, the teams that made Splatoon or ARMS or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
To give your point credence though, we don’t know anything about that either, aside from development having restarted from scratch over a year ago.
It’s not like this is a year where companies can promise anything. Most things gets delayed. Sigh, this year in video games was so promising. I know, bigger issues atm, but just… sigh… just hope everyone will get by healthy.
I know what you mean, I appreciate it’s tough for everyone right now but we could all use exciting new videogames to cheer us up and get us through this pandemic…but it looks like that ain’t happening either 😓nothing to look forward to in general
Yeah, that’s the thing. We need videogames in these time more than ever. But complaining about the fact nothing new shows ups makes me feel spoiled. Luckily we do get games though. Just hope not everything gets delayed. Next gen consoles would be nice, but can’t blame them for delaying them in these economically challenging times.

Oh well, as long as I get my E3 edition of Nintendo Direct.
(Pikmin Trilogy HD, Metroid Prime Trilogy HD, a new 2D Metroid, N64 games and the rumored “every 3D Mario console game coming to the Switch” please. And some news on BotW2 and Metroid Prime 4 would be great.)
Unfortunately I wouldn’t get your hopes up for metroid, and would instead invest in other more well supported-by-nintendo series right now. There just hasn’t been any news or signs of life in a long while…

There are a lot of games coming this April that was ignored such as Moving Out, and Trails of Mana. I purchased a 259gb card so I’m ready for these games. I am waiting. I was thinking of getting a physical copy of Trails of Mana. But with Coronavirus it is much safe to buy it digital.
Trails of Mana has some good music 9/10!!!! It is one hell of a Demo game. It would probably be better on PS4 because it is 60FPS while the Switch version is 30FPS.
