Nintendo president has apologised for Joy-Con issues

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa who spoke at the recent Nintendo financial Q&A has for the first time apologised for the issues some Switch users are facing with their malfunctioning Joy-Con controllers. Joy-Con drifting has been an issue for quite some time and class-action lawsuits have started. Here’s what was said by Mr. Furukawa at the Q&A session:

“Regarding the Joy-Con, we apologize for any trouble caused to our customers,” said Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa. “We are continuing to aim to improve our products, but as the Joy-Con is the subject of a class-action lawsuit in the United States and this is still a pending issue, we would it like to refrain from responding about any specific actions.”

  2. “we’re sorry even as we sit and continue without a solution for a product with a known defect. Thank you for your money.”

    1. You’re missing the trick. The reason he has to specify “because of a class action lawsuit” is because he can’t take any action that suggests a particular level of culpability yet. If they have a solution to the product already, depending on what that solution is, they might not be able to tell you yet because it could be used in the lawsuit as a basis for more money.

They probably had to beg their lawyers for months just to be able to apologize for the problem. I’m sure they were advised against it.

    2. It’s not as simple as people think. They basically have to completely redesign the product which can take years to properly fill out the proper paper work and develop the manufacturing process for. I don’t understand why people are acting like they can just throw out a product in a matter of a month. There’s more behind the scene procedures needed than just swapping out the joystick out.

  3. Nintendo isn’t held accountable for anything. What happened to a standard of excellence? What happened to Nintendo quality?

Maybe I’m living in the past. Maybe I’m just a dreamer. Maybe I’m crazy for thinking Nintendo cares about the loyal fan-base they’ve created. Is it too much to ask for a competent online capabilities, working controllers, and a handful of $60 games that aren’t NEW remastered deluxe rehashes?

  4. Wow what happened to Nintendo… Really sad. I had been rooting for them to tap back into the glory days (Without Slapping NEW or deluxe on everything)…
Loyal Nintendo fan since 1990… on my 3rd pair of joy-cons experiencing drift ($80/pair)

Throwing my money towards Sony and the promising PS5 in 2020…
It’s nice knowing a company is listening to what the gaming community is asking for in terms of games, online capabilities, hardware, and more.

Good luck to everyone staying on Nintendo ship. Hope it pays off…

    1. Third pair of joycons ? Wow. I replaced the joysticks for $10 bucks. You should have tried that out it’s actually pretty easy if a little annoying. Not to warrant the crap job they did on the joy-con though. I’m buying a ps5 as well, see ya on the psn former nintendo brother !

    2. Hope you find some nice games to play, that aren’t a bunch of realistic live-action people rendered in 3D, who shoot things and can barely keep up their stamina when running or jumping.

    3. Sony hasn’t done jack shit for years. You saying they’ve done any better is extremely hypocritical.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

  5. Funny, as both of my left joycons are experiencing drift, one more than the other. If I send them both in, I’m basically unable to play anything until they come back (I haven’t bought a pro controller). Sigh.

    1. I bought my son a wireless hori controller that was cheaper than one joy-con.
As his sticky fingers has rendered all of our joy cons pretty useless.
I’m just going to buy bulk of sticks and replace them myself when I have time.

  6. I still don’t get it.

The Wii U Gamepad never had drift issues, neither does the Switch pro controller.

      1. An actual internet browser is another one of those things.

Meanwhile on the Wii U’s browser, I can’t even view Fandom.

    1. What’s funny is I’ve never had the drift issue with the 3 pairs of joycons I have, same goes with my og switch pro con and splatoon edition pro con. Then when I was finally able to get the smash pro con a couple months ago it had the drift issue right out the box and I just sent it back.
