Nintendo says that they still working on “a new product that improves people’s Quality of Life in enjoyable ways”

Nintendo’s Annual Report for 2020 is now available in English. If you recall, Nintendo has been working on a Quality of Life product for years. Well, Nintendo says in the report that “we are working on the development of a new product that improves people’s QOL (Quality of Life) in enjoyable ways. Nintendo continues to engage in the development of new products for the future”. It is unknown what impact, if any, this will have on the Switch going forward.

  1. That’s nice, now can y’all tell us about/show us some of the games you’re working on? You know, the things you’re renowned for and have been too quiet about for months now?

  2. Yeah, that’s wonderful.

How about any games for 2020? I care more about the immediate future right now.

  3. This “QOL” thing has been a mystery for so long. I thought it was scrapped completely.
It’s always getting put on the back burner time and time again… who knows when we will actually see this thing.

You know. They should shadowdrop their games/announcement, just like Paper Mario. It was unexpected but very good.

    1. Indeed. I completely understand them wanting a lot of attention and bravado for a Super Mario 35th Anniversary reveal, but most anything else can go the route of the Paper Mario shadow drop that no one expected.

I refuse to believe the hidden F-Zero Twitter handle isn’t nothing. I must know if there’s meaning behind it, like a new game… Even if its announcement is dropped in a similar fashion.

  5. I think that they are having trouble working out what a fun yet practical Q.O.L. thing they should / could make. It seems to me that I’ve heard of at least two Q.O.L. patents put out.

  6. I told ya Nintendo isnt working on a new game for another 5 to 8 years? When yall going to listen? They release a game then do nothing until 5 years later. That mini direct was a waste of time. Pitiful

  7. And Nintendo focuses too much on casuals. Why not focus on your fanbase on what they want to see? Are least Sony listens to their fanbase.

    1. @Gruntilda,
I’m not too sure about that. I’m a fan who really wants the PS5 to support custom soundtracks again. But I have yet to hear a word about that feature being in the PS5. That was the worst and most unfortunate part about the PS4. Not having a CD Ripper.

  8. I’ve been hearing about QoL product from the early Wii U days… maybe even before when they briefly showcased the heart monitor but nothing seems to get any traction.

I fail to understand what is the QoL concept. What products are there that fit into this category? An app that measures your sleep using the gyroscope in your phone? A Pokémon game that helps you brush your teeth?

I think Nintendo should focus on software than branch out into an unknown periphery and Hardware territory.
