Square Enix warns of photo-sensitive epilepsy risk in Balan Wonderworld, urges players to download day 1 patch

Balan Wonderworld, from Square Enix, launched on Nintendo Switch and other platforms today and the developer has warned players of a photo-sensitive epilepsy risk on one of the bosses found in the game. Because of this, they are urging people to download the day one update which will fix the issue. The problem is that there’s a white screen strobing effect on the last boss which many speculate to be a bug, rather than a design choice.

The following statement comes from the official Balan Wonderworld Twitter account:

“Please ensure that you install the Day One Patch before playing Balan Wonderworld,” Square Enix told Eurogamer. “We have received reports of a photo-sensitive epilepsy risk from a potential flashing bug if playing the game un-patched. The Day One Patch prevents this issue as well as enhances the overall play experience.”

  1. Does this game kick puppies too? All I’ve heard about it has been negative, been a terrible launch with all the issues

  2. I yearn for the days before the endless betas that keep getting released now…! It feels like waaaay too many things are failing just because they aren’t finished! Not this game, though.

…This game, though, has basic design issues. Oof.
