Bloomberg: Several parties are interested in buying Square Enix

Lately, video gaming companies have been rather interested in buying each other. The biggest example of this is Microsoft‘s recent acquisition of Bethesda. An acquisition doesn’t happen all the time, however. It’s not uncommon at all to see deals fail to be reached, or it only goes so far as companies expressing interest in doing so. Well, another video gaming company is now seeing this occur, and only time will tell what the outcome will be.

Bloomberg’s Japanese branch is reporting that “two bank officials familiar with the situation” have told them that several parties have expressed interest in buying Square Enix. It is not known who, exactly, are interested in buying them. It is also not known “whether the game department is the only one of interest or the company as a whole”.

  1. God, this console generation is becoming such shit. Its going to be nothing but console manufacturers in an arms race to buy up the most companies and gamers on all platforms are going to suffer from it.

    1. You’re spot on, this will give less options for the customers. Nobody wants another monopoly like with phone plans or other forms of entertainment.

  2. I think Sony would make the most sense, but it’d be a shame since their titles have been cross platform lately. That would mean no games like Bravely Default or Octopath for Nintendo.

  3. As long as they are a Japanese driven company and refrain from what Sony of Japan did (surrender the PS brand and company to western woke BS and stagnant creative bankrupt morons) I’m fine with another Japanese company taking control of SE.

    1. I hope you right. I want Bravely Default III and I hope Square Enix immediately started it after releasing Bravely Default II. That way it would close the waiting gap.
