Square Enix says Final Fantasy X-3 story synopsis exists and there’s a possibility game could be made in the future

Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has chatted with Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts character designer Tetsuya Nomura and Kazushige Nojima, who is the scenario writer of the original Final Fantasy X. They told the magazine that they have a story script for a third game in the Final Fantasy X story which is already a two part game (Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2) and there’s a slim possibility that they could work on a third game. Final Fantasy X lead Motomu Toriyama also spoke to Famitsu, and confessed that nothing will happen while they are working on the continuation of Final Fantasy VII Remake for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 systems.

“If we are to make X-3, we somehow have a synopsis written by Nojima-san,” explains character designer Tetsuya Nomura, who has recently been busy as the creative lead on revisiting another Final Fantasy world with FF7 Remake. “It’s sleeping right now, but the plot itself does exist.”

“I had the opportunity to work with people who entered the game industry after playing FF7. But now that phase has moved and now I’m going with people who entered after playing FFX,” adds Kazushige Nojima.

“The probability is not zero,” Toriyama says of a Final Fantasy X-3, “But we are not in a phase where we can talk about it, unless we have finished producing FF7 Remake.”

  1. As much as I love FFX, I’m not sure what they could possibly do with yet another sequel. X-2 already felt like a rather unnecessary sequel to me. I’d honestly much prefer if they just gave FFX the remake treatment. The original game has really started to show its age, most notably in its UI, cutscenes and core game design.

  2. Will we get to see the scene where Titus mistakes a land mine for a blitzball and kills himself then comes back to life (again) and starts cheating on Yuna? (this is 100% real)

  3. I’m gonna skip that. I’m not pleased how fanservice would be toned down to pander to a “Wider Audience”.

  4. After the episodic remake of FF7 is done, I want to see the supposed trilogy of X getting a similar treatment where they are all multiple episodes of the same overarching story. (Just don’t go with that dumb synopsis for X-3 involving Tidus mistaking a mine for a blitzball and getting killed, Tidus cheating on Yuna, & the revival of Sin. Then again, bringing Sin back could work as long as he’s a red herring, not the actual big bad.)
