An old year has ended and a new year has begun, which means that GamesIndustry’s panel of various gaming industry analysts are back to review last year’s predictions for the gaming industry and make some new ones. We’ve already reported about the Mario Kart remarks made by Dr. Serkan Toto of Kantan Games, but that’s not the only noteworthy thing to come from the analysts.
Piers Harding-Rolls of Ampere Analysis said that “Nintendo Switch family of devices will once again be the best-selling consoles in 2022 at around 21 million sold to consumers, aided by the release of Switch OLED. I’m not expecting a Switch Pro in 2022. We have a next-gen Nintendo console in our forecasts for late 2024, so I’m not convinced a ‘Pro’ model is going to appear at all”.
I mean it don’t make sense to release a pro between now and 2024, better to do a next gen. Seriously, why is everyone so enamoured with a thing that don’t nor will exist aka the Switch pro?
I don’t think people are anymore. I’m pretty sure any hope of a Switch Pro died with the Switch OLED announcement.
Yes that’s what I been thinking from the start.
Probably because people were wanting a better switch so they could run their own games without performance issues and run better games since this was the first time a home nintendo console actually had strong 3rd party support
*In a long time
forgot to add that tidbit
End of 2024? For me March of 2025
Just rumours!!
There’s going to be something obviously, it will surly carry on the hybrid format, so call it what you want. Switch pro, next gen Nintendo console etc, etc. I can’t see Nintendo ditching the portable and console combination anytime soon.
There will be a pro, it’s a money grab for Nintendo, and they will only release 1 or 2 games on it, think new Nintendo 3ds,
As long as it’s backwards compatible.
The Switch Pro would be just as pointless as the “New” Nintendo 3ds was. The graphics aren’t anything worth bragging about nor do they really look any different compared to the og model, it’ll get some exclusives (which is a terrible business practice), and will become obsolete when they release they next gen console, there’s absolutely nothing “pro” about that lol.
It doesn’t need an “analyst” to understand that there won’t be a Switch Pro. I have always said since the first rumors appeared that there will NEVER be a Switch 1.5 as many people were hoping for. A redesign with slightly better performance (more stable framerate), better battery life, more storage and possibly added features was the best we could have hoped for and we already got that. A significantly better performing Switch was a ridiculous idea from the start, as Nintendo would NEVER split the player base.
Yep. I doubt we’ll see a Pro model at this point. I think we could possibly see the next system release late next year, but if not, definitely sometime in 2024. I just hope it has backwards compatibility, and remains portable.
I do love the OLED though. The screen, and just overall build of it, is a lot nicer than the OG switch.
I would say late 2023 possibly like October not November. Maybe this system will be my last.
As long as the new system has a virtual console then we are good to go. I knew Nintendo are gonna skip the pro but I can’t say I’m a little excited about it.
I can see Nintendo doing a few more variants of the Switch with the OLED screen like a slimmer model and one without the Cartridge Slot that’ll have like 280GB of storage on it, but I predict those will release in 2023 and early 2024 before the next system releases
Didn’t Nintendo come out and kind of say recently that it’s always looking at new tech and would rather wait and debut it in a new system than put on an existing system. I figured that was the nail in the coffin for switch pro. Basically saying why put 4K out now while it could be a selling point for the new system
This is absolutely insane they might come out with a pro but very doubtful…plus never count Sega out all these companies arguing who has the best pro this and that when Sega will later on come out of nowhere and blast them all out the door that’s the reason Sega killed the Dreamcast and made games for all systems watching them waiting for the right time to strike.
Sega? Really?
The same company that was forced to lay off hundreds of employee a year or so ago due to a lack of profit?
The same company that’s had to downsize half a dozen time this past decade?
The same company that can’t even produce decent games for it’s own mascot anymore?
…Yeah. No offense, but I wouldn’t hold your breath for this “miraculous comeback” if I were you.
Sega aren’t cut out for the console market anymore, this ain’t the 90’s.
They still have to downsize even after the revenue off Sonic movie?
Pretty sure Paramount (the film studios behind the movie) or its parent company Viacom get most of the money for the Sonic Movie while SEGA just gets royalties.
Right… I’m sure that’s exactly why they’re sitting on a mountain of unused IP’s. Not because of poor management, but it’s because they’re on the prowl.
I don’t think there will be a Switch pro.
I think a successor announcement sometime this year is possible.
I don’t really care as long as we get a Nintendo handheld that runs games at native resolution like we did from the Gameboy to the New 2DS XL
